Rahaan – SE 011 [SE011]

Rahaan is a US edit master who can turn his hand to disco, house, soul, funk and r&b all with equal elan. He’s been doing it for 20 years but it’s still exciting to hear a new one from the legend, and the 11th Street Edits outing is another beguiling one. ‘Impure’ is a ragged and rugged, low-slung deep house drum track with cat squeals and crashing hits striking a menacing tone. ‘Answer The Damn Phone’ is a surging cosmic disco sound with driving arps and incongruous vocals before closer ‘Intense’ brings more raw, physical rhythms to a driving deep house cut.

Hu Vibrational – Vibe Ride [ND015]

‘Vibe Ride’ is the sixth release of Adam Rudolph’s Hu Vibrational project and marks his 60th release as a leader or co-leader. “With every record, the goal is to explore new creative territory,” explains Rudolph. Vibe Ride continues a deeper exploration of a trance-like groove and a conceptual framework known as Sonic Mandala. This album marks the most complete realization of that idea, partly due to the group’s experience touring beforehand. That time on the road helped to refine ideas and strengthen musical chemistry. The recording process unfolded organically—likely due to the long-standing collaboration within ensembles like Go: Organic Orchestra and Moving Pictures, where the musicians have developed a deep familiarity with the shared musical language.”

Aubrey – Super Analog EP [A.R.T.LESS2165]

Since the early 90s the name Aubrey has stood for authentic UK Techno with deep roots in Chicago, Detroit and New York. His “Super Analog EP” for Mojuba sublabel a.r.t.less isn’t a look back, but a statement on the timeless power of analog sound. The four tracks are a journey through a spectrum of moods: from the cosmic expanse of “Big Six” and the playful acid touches of “Time Flying” to the raw, hypnotic energy of “Robber Nose” and the wistful depth of “Mysterious Rhythm.” This is music that can connect generations, an inspiration for seasoned listeners and new explorers alike. A stunning label debut that needs no grand explanation because it tells its own powerful story.

SEER – Detour 006 [DTR-006]

Detour 006 comes courtesy of SEER, a new Brooklyn-based project from Maroje T and M Parent. Together as SEER, they’ve threaded a needle in between their respective styles and sounds, coming up with something altogether different. Their debut record throws a little bit of everything into the mix: chopped-up breakbeats, post-industrial moods, syrupy mid-tempo electro, and spectral, futuristic synths all feature across its four tracks. Each charts a different path; same-ol’ cookie-cutter techno this record is most certainly not.

C.L.A.W.S – Splat City II [DE-322]

C.L.A.W.S. comes to Dark Entries with a new ripping LP, Splat City II. C.L.A.W.S. is the solo project of musical luminary Brian Hock, who has been a key figure in the Bay Area underground for over two decades via his involvement in projects like Bronze and The Vanishing, as well as helming the record labels Squirrels on Film and Immortal Sin. With C.L.A.W.S., Hock takes on the dancefloor, picking up cues from the Hague’s Giallo-dipped electro, the skewed minimalism of Chicago acid, and the mind-rending forays of San Francisco post-punk icons like Chrome and Tuxedomoon. Following 2019’s inaugural Splat City EP, Splat City II continues to map the psychogeography of a metropolis both alien and immediately recognizable, one where life is cheap, but so are the thrills. Previously released on Squirrels on Film in digital-only format, this expanded vinyl edition of Splat City II features two new cuts.

DJ Subaru – Dog [CWPT013]

DJ Subaru returns to Palms Trax’s CWPT with ‘Dog’, showcasing three tracks of offbeat dancefloor material that encompasses throbbing italo, sticky indie dancefloors and snarling, timeless punk. Title track ‘Dog’ reunites DJ Subaru with regular vocal collaborator Chopper Johnson, delivering a gratifying sermon of canine defiance to suit Subaru’s razor-sharp motorik disco, whose pumping bassline and angular guitar licks prove irresistible to dancers.

Franck Roger – Exodus EP [SL116]

Franck Roger has been cooking up timeless, deep sounds for decades and right now he is in a superb run of form. Seasons Limited is where he lands next with more of his signature sounds. ‘Exodus’ opens with a fat, warped bassline and far-sighted chords that hark back to early Detroit. ‘Sokette’ is much more dusty and minimal, and again has echoes of artists like Omar-S from the Motor City. ‘Push It’ is a more elastic groove with some aching vocal hooks and diffuse chord work to make this perfect for the late-night sessions.

Franck Roger – Mind Games EP [SL114]

French deep house don Franck Roger returns to his tracky house roots with this latest drop on Seasons Limited. Kicking off is ‘Mind Games’, a swirling, peak-time house seducer built for late night floors and on the flip, ‘I Can Feel Ur Love’ stays deep but has a subtle skip to the kicks, while molten chords are draped over the beats and subtle vocal swirls marble the mood. ‘Gerkin Moods’ pays tribute to the legend Larry Heard, not just in title. It’s got real emotional depth and a deeply cosmic atmosphere.

Neurovision – Nightshift [RTTD028]

Neurovision is a new Icelandic electro supergroup that channels the coldness of their homeland into these icy and futuristic new cuts on Helena Hauff’s Return to Disorder, all with hints of masters of the form like Dopplereffekt. ‘Driving To Burgertown’ begins with a whirring of machine madness, squelchy lines, trippy melodic cascades and snappy drum breaks. ‘Animal Flow’ then layers up sheet metal textures with dark and dehumanised vocals to make for a gritty post-punk vibe. ‘Lunar Cycling’ has a happier energy thanks to the crystalline arps up top and the snappier, surging kicks. Last of all is ‘Neurolab,’ a Kraftwerkian style banger laced up with layers of busy synth progressions.

Hiss Is Bliss – Buy My DVD [MH015X]

Hiss Is Bliss returns to Modern Hypnosis with a solo 12” featuring his masterful techniques in forging dub techno and house music across three tracks. The mysterious French producer maintains a refreshing low profile, allowing the music to do the heavy lifting. They utilise analog synths, a Redson Echo EC 25, a Korg Signal Sd-400, and a DIY spring reverb crafted by the infamous ‘JB,’ while also running certain stems to tape to create immaculate soundscapes with low-end frequencies primed for sound systems.

VA – Elementa Obscura Vol. 02 [EOD002]

The second volume of Elementa Obscura moves with even greater force toward the dancefloor: six tracks straddling the lines between industrial, electro, and wave. From FIUMEs cold, pounding opener to Memorexs spacious analog explorations, Nyxloids metallic EBM visions, and Ole Mic Odds razor-edged electro workout, the compilation spans the full spectrum of the underground. Spanish newcomer Thai Lady Boy brings chaos with a fractured industrial techno cut, while RNXRX closes with a ritualistic music excursion.
