Octave One – Burn It Down [4WCLLP2-600]
”This new album comes at a time when the pair are still evolving and searching out new forms. As live performers they are reaching an ever larger audience around the world and plenty of the energy they exude there is bottled up in this new LP. Made using a fine collection of hardware including bits by Roland, Moog, Dave Smith Instruments and much more besides, it follows 2008s Summer on Jupiter and proves that as individuals and as musicians we have grown with time and through our travels. Our music reflects that. Our work this time around has taken a lot longer to produce, but we feel it represents, more than anything else we have done to this point, our complete idea as an album project. Kicking off with the rooted kicks and sci-fi, slo mo techno of Eighth Wonder the album unfolds through elastic and triumphant diva house on Jazzo/Lose Myself [featuring Ann Saunderson], cosmic soundscaping on Afterglow and melodically enriched grooves and funky guitar licks on A Better Tomorrow (O1 Remake) [featuring Random Noise Generation]. Elsewhere there is breezy and anthemic fair with Believer, soul kissed sounds and lush pads on Whatever She Wants and then shapeshifting, industrial tinged beats and twisted techno in the later half. Things unfold on Burn It Down with a real sense of narrative, though, and despite being a techno album never do things grow to stern or serious. Instead the mood and tempo switches up knowingly, just like an Octave One live set, and really transports you to another place entirely in the process.”

Deniro – The Penal Colony [TAPE009]
Deniro strikes once more on Amsterdams fabled Tape Records with The Penal Colony. His hypnotizing sound lures in between the first waves of Detroit Techno and the finer bits of contemporary techno. He puts melody above power, depth over effect but proofs to maintain floor heat over and over again.
The KVB – Mirror Being [INV147]
Now Berlin-based duo The KVB land on Geoff Barrow’s Invada label for the first in a series of releases. Mirror Being differs from most releases from The KVB as the pair’s deep set vocals, a key component of their sound, are largely absent from the 10 tracks but their reverb soaked mastery of guitars and analogue gear is still very much evident throughout.
Sync 24 & Morphology – Low Pass Gateway [CE017]
Here is the second in a series of collaboration EP’s which sees CE label head Sync 24 team up with other artists. The Low Pass Gateway EP is with the Finish duo Morphology. Written over 3 trips to London in Sync 24’s studio and finished in Finland, the guys serve up 4 tracks of dance floor aimed electro goodness.
Cio D’or – All In All [SEMANTICA073]
While music in its definitive nature fills both space and time, creating environments in which we live and breathe, these miniature dramaturgies string together to become the screenplay to ones existence. Sometimes chosen, and often times forced, these sounds influence the subconscious and designate emotions. Purposely flowing fluently through a spectrum ranging from theatrical to rapturous tensions that mingle through the night. Cio D’Or’s cinematic compilation for Semantica explores another side of techno, a niche home to Cio where each intricate sound takes a risk for the sake of progression.
S Olbricht – Trancess [PS004]
The second 12inch from the burgeoning Proto Sites imprint comes from Hungarian deconstructivist S Olbricht. ‘Trancess’ plunges into hazy ambient techno and distorted house depths, exploring the gritty themes present in his recent cut for Lobster Theremin and the consistent body of work for the likes of Opal Tapes, Gang of Ducks, SicSic or his own Farbwechsel imprint.
John Heckle – Blues for a Red Giant [LDR017]
Lunar Disko is back once again, featuring another firm Lunar favourite…John Heckle. eckle debuts on Lunar Disko with 5 raw cuts from a distant dimension. Encompassing much of the Merseysiders signature sound, ‘Blues for a Red Giant’ shimmers throughout with distorted percussion, otherworldly melodies, and driving basslines to create another masterful EP from an artist who continues to push the boundaries of house and techno.
Haunted Doorbell – Unconnected Thoughts On Jacking [COTF007]
Haunted Doorbell are Timothy J. Fairplay and Matilda Tristram. ‘Unconnected thoughts on jacking’ is four tracks of naive melodies, rough slamjack drums, and new age atmospheres. ‘Starclash’ kicks off side A, with its dramatic arpeggios and SID chip crashes, Techno to soundtrack the Saturday night laser show at the planetarium. Following is ‘A night of adventure’ with its eastern scales and washy broken chorus unit hiss. On side B we have ‘Beautiful Sheffield’ – an ode to electronic music’s (possibly) most important British city and the title track rounds of the EP – house music for listening to while looking out to sea.
Sean Dixon / John Berara – Reconcile EP [FINALCHAPTER005]
New release on Sean Dixon’s own label Final Chapter. The journey of Detroit and Chicago influenced house and techno continues on this release as label head Sean Dixon presents an EP split between himself and Boston’s John Barera. Remix duties come courtesy of Berlin based producer, Palms Trax.
No More – A Rose Is A Rose [DE084]
No More are a band from Kiel, Germany, founded in the summer of 1979. Their music is rooted in early Post Punk / No Wave. No More began as a quartet with Andy A. Schwarz (vocals, guitar, bass), Tina Sanudakura (synthesizers), Christian Darc (drums, vocals) and Thomas Welz (bass, vocals). In 1982 No More released the mini-album “A Rose Is A Rose’ on 10′. Songs on this mini-LP convey the desolate and bleak attitude of German youth in the early 1980s. This reissue compiles all 8 tracks from the mini-LP, both tracks from the Suicide Commando’ 7′ plus 3 demos from 1982.
Carlos Peron – Dirty Songs [DE092]
4-track EP by Swiss musician Carlos Peron, founding member of Yello. ‘Dirty Songs’ is a collection of songs from Carlos Peron recorded between 1980 and 1986. The recordings were made with the core set up of an ARP 2600, Rolands Drumatix, TB-303 and TR-808.
The Pagan Rites – Every Mauser & Browning [RAT004]
Rat Life returns with The Pagan Rites on Catalog Number 4. Little is known about the band from Sweden, first Signals were received in 2010 when they submitted their track 03 to the IFM Demo Contest. In October last year Rat Life sent out a submarine to search the Swedish coast line for the small Hut where the duo records their songs (Apologies to the Swedish authorities at this point, who confused our research with a Russian military threat). All four tracks are packed with bittersweet melancholia, reflecting the neverending darkness of cold Scandinavian winter, still the midnight sun is always in sight on the horizon.

Mannequin continue to deliver the brutal sound of the Italian industrial/ebm electronic band Musumeci, this time with 2 killer edits from Lee Douglas / An-i.
Hardrock Striker – Supreme Striker I [WAR4]
The Skylax affiliated Warehouse Classics series has always taken an authentically old-fashioned approach to the humble re-edit, serving up chopped and looped versions inspired by the loose, drum-machine heavy reworks of original Chicago house masters such as Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles. This fourth volume, the first from label boss Hardrock Striker, continues in this vein. Amongst the four tracks you’ll find a slamming early house gem (the clean kick drums, metallic hits and chiming melodies of “Mano a Mano”), a brilliantly teasted and tweaked Ready for the World revision (“Shyla”, where the French producer builds the drums before dropping into the vocals), and what sounds like a Paul Weller/Jam/Style Council rework (the undulating Balearic funk of “Precious Thang”).

Trevor Jackson – Format [FV113.16]
Trevor Jackson releases a collected triple LP edition via The Vinyl Factory featuring 13 tracks including an exclusive bonus cut not available on any of the initial releases. Curated from an archive of over 150 tracks Trevor had built up over the past 2 decades, the inspiration for Jackson’s music, has come from “the times and places where genres weren’t quite formed.” While his synth and beatbox workouts might touch on proto-house, on new wave, on Italo and techno, on ambient and psychedelia, they are at the same time none of these things. Musically, Format explores Jackson’s usual obsessions – industrial, new wave, EBM, electro, post-punk disco and techno, in particular – with great gusto.
