On their by now 4th release Crystal Soda Cream yet again prove to know how to pull out all the stops: shimmering cold & toxic, passionate & sharp tongued, claustrophobic & elegantly wasted with usual aplomb. By revealing “Work & Velocity” this Vienna threesome – Theresa Adamski (dr, keys, voc), Philipp Forthuber (voc, guit) and Sebastian Ploier (bass) – bears a distinct breed of post punk, that is not just a zealous reflection of the cold, old days in a cloudy mirror, much rather CSC manage to forge a bridge between a thoroughly thought through reminiscence of stylistic device and the framing of a paramountly contemporary statement.

VA – Der Zeltweg – Italian Tapes Industrial Music 1982-1984 Volume 2 [MNQ081]
Second volume of ‘Der Zeltweg – Italian Tapes Industrial Music 1982-1984’, the legendary Musumeci’s tape label existed for some few years in the early 80’s. Edition of 500 copies on 160 gram black vinyl. Coloured Vinyl. While the A-side is filling all the music produced by some of their side projects (Errata-S-Corrige, Gasdehyde and Herpes-Z) that we already introduced in the first volume, plus an unreleased Musumeci very early studio track ‘Apologia/Musumeci’, the B-side is presenting for the first time the full reissue of ‘The Psychophatic Blossom – Il Fantasma della Libertà’ tape (Der Zeltweg 002), an unexpected guitar-bass-noises experimental album, permeated by philosophical declamations in Italian language and short pulsating rhythmic compositions.
Some Bizarre – Don’t Be Afraid [DE117]
Some Bizarre are a trio formed in Bergamo, Italy in 1983. The line-up is Marino Scarabelli (music, producer), Tiberio “Tyber” Scarfone (arrangement, producer) and Stefano Brignoli (lyrics, vocals). “Don’t Be Afraid” was their first composition, recorded in Milan in 1983 and released on Il Discotto the same year. Stefano, sitting on a sofa in the studio, wrote lyrics while Marino composed the music. They developed their sound with a Mini Moog, Prophet 5, Korg Synthesizer, and Linn Drum. Stefano sings of a romantic night with a lover, dancing into a dream world. Heavy percussion serves as counterpoint to the infectious melodies, which were inspired by Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Backup vocalist Enrica Danesi adds a powerful call-and-response for the chorus, elevating the dramatic tension. The B-side features an instrumental version.

Justin Cudmore – Crystal [HNY010]
‘Crystal’ is Justin Cudmore’s debut 12inch single. Raw, rough and ready to rumble, ‘Crystal’ marries snaking acid lines and bouncy grooves to a sample from cult underground film classic ‘The Queen’. On the flip is Detroit-bred and Bunker resident DJ Mike Servito’s “730 Reshape”, that gives the wiggly worm vibe harkening back to the early days of Transmat, Warp and the minimalism of Dan Bell’s DBX project. L.I.E.S. mainstay Gunnar Haslam provides his ‘Dekalb Avenue Remix’ made while living in New York, a modular synth cruise with the top down.
Iori – Cold Radiance [FIELD020]
Known and admired for its rich and moody ambient and techno output, Field Records is presenting a brand new LP from Iori. His mesmerizing ambient excursions come under the title of Cold Radiance, and the album features eight tracks that suck you right into his world. Each track here is a long and absorbing affair that slowly unfolds and pulls you right into its grainy core. There are dark, texturally rich tracks that are full of menace as well as more heavenly, suspensory and angelic ambient offerings.
Cinematic 74 – Realtime Inverted [PF012]
Debut album by Detroit producer Cinematic 74 a.k.a. Brooks Mosher, who is known for his excellent detroit / house productions on labels as Dolly and Other Heights. Though, his ambient recordings are less known till date, under the alias Cinematic 74, Brooks presents a collection of ambient works produced between 2003-2015. Nine spacious and tranquil cuts, connected to harmonies and moments of bliss. Still, a variety within the album is captured, ranging from darker, remarkable synth-washed soundcsapes to more melodious moods with emphatic rhythm forms.
Monochord – Spatial Stereo [MEA018]
Monochord are Vienna-based musicians Bernhard Hammer and Jakob Schneidewind, two thirds of Elektro Guzzi, though Monochord paints a different picture. Electroacoustic experiments and filmic elements define the music that develops instinctively yet irrevocably, a sense of forward motion setting them apart. Compositionally minimal, these tracks maximize their inherent potential all the way through to their logical and even illogical end. Referencing electronica, ambient, shoegaze and at times modern classical harmonics, Monochord builds and unbuilds in a slow heartbeat. Introspective and filmic, its quiet and non-confrontational nature makes Monochord move in the interzone between various spheres. Their music escapes definition and that is its truest definition. Its subtle pulse and evocative and drony feel invite and inspire.
Milton Bradley – Tragedy Of Truth [DNRTB010]
The German producer Milton Bradley presents his full-length debut on his own Do Not Resist The Beat label. Bradley has been one of techno’s key names for much of the past decade. “Tragedy Of Truth” incloses in 10 tracks, the full range of Milton Bradley Techno sound: dark, Industrial leaning to 1990s style Acid.
Johannes Volk – Asteroid Riding EP [PLTR014]
Johannes Volk returns to Polytone with his debut EP. Two excellent techno tracks are in place and a spaced out ambient piece called “It Could Happen” describes the mysterious view from a spacecraft cockpit into the wideness of the universe. On the A-Side Volk blows the whistle of the EP’s title “Asteroid Riding” with funky chords accompanied by a wide deep bassline, short samples, classic percussions and a cropped stomping kick-drum, that let you ride through the orbit. On the B-Side “Earthbound” pounds with a broad hollow kick, arpeggiated synth’s, alerting sounds and a harmonically settled type of string-line that eases the element’s diversity like the blue planet’s gravity. Within the tracks that have been built to transport the feel of time and space, Johannes Volk again pushes himself on the cutting edge of electronic music.

Viers – Re-L [FIGURE076]
Amassing almost a dozen EPs and an impressive album debut all within three years, the production powerhouse that is Jordon Saxton finally hits home on Figure. While developing various sonic identities at once, his first outing for the label as Viers is a strictly no-nonsense techno affair. This already becomes apparent on ‘Lain’, which carefully navigates with sonar bleeps and scanner sweeps through of nebula richly detailed textures. ‘Infornography’ is muffled in thick murk, its metallic synths unceasingly chipping away at rocks of rumbling bass. On the flip Viers changes his game yet again, crafting a beautifully fluorescent and dubbed out loop, making ‘RE-L’ pulse just as gently as it is booming. Finally ‘Protocol”s militant groove closes things out on a tough note. Hammering kicks and cleverly twisted tribal percussion make this one a nasty surprise to drop during peak time.
