A Made Up Sound – Stumbler / Syrinx [AMS007]

First part of the ace new A Made Up Sound double drop on his own label. Two pieces of his signature stutterfunk with the machines slowed down to a midtempo drift. Stumbling on the A-side, slamming on the B-side.

VA – Acido 20 [ACIDO020]

Never a label to be afraid of bucking expectations, the 20th Acido releases sees founder Dynamo Dreesen collaborating with regular colluder SVN and, surprisingly, Dave ‘A Made Up Sound’ Huismans. Of the three untitled tracks, it’s the A side where the production touch of A Made Up Sound is most discernible, thanks to the skipping, stripped back rhythmic kicks that propel the cut forwards. You can totally see Ben UFO getting plenty of mileage out of this one. It is the B side where the abstract inclinations of SVN and Dreesen come to the fore, with “Track 2” sinking meandering drums in a thick, foggy soup of sonics and delayed modular bleeps whilst the final track is jittering, minimal electronics at its most paranoid.

A Made Up Sound – After Hours / What Preset [AMS006]

New A Made Up Sound! Following up on the frantic start-stop action of the Ahead/Endgame whitelabel from earlier this year, number 6 in the series features two expansive semi-live trips. ‘After Hours’ offers a brooding alternative soundtrack to that most underrated of Scorsese movies, while ‘What Preset’ sounds like a launch into stratospheric jazz territory by way of some restless broken hardcore shuffle.

Jason Fine – Kontra Musik Mixes [KM010]

As one of the younger breed of Detroit talents, Jason Fine is still just starting to get a foothold, despite having a good few years of releases behind him. His Kontra Musik relationship has proven to be the most fruitful, and this remix package capitalizes on that with two top shelf commissions. A Made Up Sound brings his unmistakable broken house swing to bear, with warming subs and thick swathes of pad and melody twisted to Dave Huismann’s crafty designs. Heinrich Muller brings the Drexciyan vibes in abundance with his punchy electro stance that remains peerless after all these years.

A Made Up Sound – Archive II [CBS013]

New Clone Basement Series (lucky number 013!) with the long awaited return of A Made Up Sound (aka 2562), following up on his Archive EP/CBS02. Written as a counterbalance to the more experimental releases on his own AMUS label series, Archive II finally unleashes what’s possibly his most banging, straight-forward club material to date, while retaining the trademark A Made Up Sound funk and swing. “Hang-Up” is all about the irresistible Herbie-injected groove, cut-up and layered to great effect, whereas things get darker and bass-heavier with technotrack “Sweetback” on the flip. Keeping the tension high till a drop towards the end, seven minutes never seemed so short.
