Finnish twosome Morphology has released some incredible records over the years – mostly of the intergalactic electro time – but we’d wager few are as sonically sparkling, life-affirming or pleasingly melodious as their latest two-tracker. ‘Destroit’, the A-side cut, is simply sublime: a far-sighted, futuristic fusion of crunchy, Chicago-influenced machine drums – all snappy snares, tough kicks and fizzing cymbals arranged into a delicious post-electro rhythm – intergalactic chords and bright, breezy electronic melodies that tap into the sci-fi sounds of purist Motor City techno. The duo opts for a warmer and woozier, acid-flecked sound on flipside ‘Distance’, a classic-sounding chunk of deep ambient techno tailor-made for late nights and early mornings.
Vernon Felicity – Days Of Leisure [ASS002]
Boris Bunnik with a Vernon Felicity debut album. “Days Of Leisure” is a very well produced warm and analogue sounding house album. Think Metro Area vs. Larry Heard and you are almost there.. This is the sound of the summer and a future classic in the making.
Versalife / Hexagon – Untitled [AS004]
The fourth transmission from the Altered States label, which is a Furthur Electronix off shoot label dealing in limited hand stamped pressings. This one is coming from Boris Bunnik featuring two of his production aliases Hexagon & Versalife.
Uf0 – Arp Better Than Line [AS003]
The third output from the Altered States label, the Furthur Electronix off shoot label, is an expansive double pack of electro psychedelia by Uf0 aka Sergio Garcia from Spain. Over the four sides, the somewhat-elusive Ibizan artist takes you on a journey through mind-bending oscillations, crisp drum programming and creeping euphoria. It flickers seamlessly between retro braindance and cinematic futurism; between rave cuts and gently simmering ambience (‘Yeh Premoh’); or between lightning-fast propulsion and sedate wandering. Uf0 excels on each individual track and with the album format as a whole, providing all the ingredients for a captivating and transportive listen from back to front.
Cignol – Altered Sense EP [AS001]
The first transmission from the Altered States label, which is a new Furthur Electronix off shoot label dealing in limited hand stamped pressings. Coming from Cignol, It’s a cosmic adventure that rides on undulating bass pushes, with far-sighted chords bringing that forlorn sense of melancholic that makes Detroit house music so well loved. ‘Altered Sense’ is a popping electro cut with smooth drum funk and comforting chords, while the flip is more unhinged as it rolls through rugged betas on ‘Gatwick Runner’ then manic melodic patterns and glitchy hits on ‘Last Chances.’
