Marco Segreti – Elisabetta [BAP036]

The long fabled ‘Elisabetta’ project, conceived by Giuseppe Alcheri, scored by Marco Segreti and eventually cancelled entirely by shady producers has long been lamented by fans of Italian Cinema and Disco aficionados alike. ‘Elisabetta’ was to be a return to Alcheri’s erotic thriller roots after (what some may consider talent wasted in) the Euro-Crime genre of the late 70s. Though, despite the predictable trappings of previous efforts, Alcheri’s flair for stylised dramatics and profound statements on the human condition bubbled under the surface, even in films such as “Legge Rotto” and “Sono Unica Difesa di Questa Citta”, but it was the melancholic power of early hits such as “Angelo Della Pelle” or “Pianto Vergine” that serious fans were crying out for. All of which was to be delivered with ‘Elisabetta’ which promised to be his most ambitious and emotional film in years. Concerning a writer driven to suicide by a lost love, told mostly through typewriter monologues, conversations with “Little Grey”, a pigeon and late night cruises through the discotheques of the mid 1980s, ‘Elisabetta’ was to be an epic poem on the nature of love and fidelity, sadly lost much like the lover in the film. Marco Segreti’s credentials should need no introduction, originally the drummer and leader of “Bruciando Roma” a group of anarcho-session musicians, playing on many 70s disco hits, the synthesizer revolution of the 1980s allowed him to break out into independence. Dripping with vintage reverbs and mourning melodies, the soundtrack, presented here for the first time ever is all that remains of this remarkable project.

San Giovanni Bassista – Don’t Go [BAP077]

Initially released by Materiali Sonori in 1985, San Giovanni Bassista’s ‘Don’t Go’ EP embodies what made the alternative italo disco scene of Florence so thrilling. Fresh, packed with humor and ahead of its time in so many ways, these three tracks are thoroughly modern and are definitely still dancefloor burners. Famous for ‘Don’t Go’, it did not take long for the audience to fall in love with the other two tracks of the EP: ‘Summer Sweat’ and ‘Hot Socks’. To pay hommage to his dear friend Claudio Bonaiuti, who passed away suddenly, Alexander Robotnick re-released the EP in digital format on his very own Hot Elephant Music label in 2010. Fast forward to 2016 Bordello A Parigi is pleased to bring you this release on our beloved vinyl, remastered with refreshed artwork. All in cooperation with mister Robotnick himself who also supplied us an edited version of Hot Socks. Sit down, lay back and enjoy the sun while drinking a cocktail on a beautiful beach and mumbling the silly blend of English and Spanish lyrics.

Franz Scala – Discoteca Paradiso [BAP075]

Spinning gold is pretty difficult. But that’s what Franz Scala does. Simple when you know how, and this Italian does. Three tracks of pure italo sunshine. Snapping beats and cocktail chords meet on the dancefloor for ‘Discoteca Paradiso’, sleek synthlines keeping time as the pair turn and twirl. ‘Gun Theory’ works in moonlit. Clean drums are sullied by dripping keys, a cigarette locked in the teeth of this after hours affair. And the lights aren’t up yet, Scala has one more floor filler up his sleeve. Pulsing rhythms say there still hope, she’s style out there; but the bitter sweet melodies disagree. A lilting heartbreaker, in the elegant form of ‘Riflessi’.

Aux Tha Masterfader – Ready To Dance [BAP071]

Aux Tha Masterfader may sound like a creature beamed in from a distant galaxy, yet he’s the latest homegrown talent to join the Bordello. But don’t be mistaken, there’s a definite space influence to his sound. Drums come with a southern flavour in the vocoder dipped “Ready To Dance”. Steeped in the rhythms of Rimini, this is a track that will whisk you away into happiness. It’s the laser light synthlines that capture the ear in the clean and shining “Tennis Record”. Bars glide against an iced background, chords gleaming amongst claps and warming bass.

Uabos – A Point Of View [BM006]

Matteo Pepe aka Uabos returns to Bitter Moon. Building on his first outing, A Point of View opens with the warming 303 grooves of “A Point of View.” Clean beats and lush notes weave in this playful house encounter. Those same crisp rhythms are present in the funk filled “Groove Is A Mystery” before slow burning beauty of “Piano Fights”, a track that will simply ignite anything it comes in contact with. Bright and energetic, “Semen Without Touch” ends the EP, shimmering bars and playful twists wind together for a colourful close.

Andreas Gehm – Yellow Flower [BM005]

Andreas Gehm is known for his fierce, unapologetic acid style. But the Cologne man does have a more mellow side, a smoother side, and that’s what this three tracker is. Of course, smooth Gehm still has some rough edges. “Yellow Flowers” combines thick pads, skittering beats, warming samples and frigid bars in an intoxicating brew. Malice and menace rear their ashen faces for the evil machinations of “Late At Night”, muffled vocals and sharpened snares glinting in the streetlights. Safety arrives in the form of the aptly titled “Less Violence.” Rhythms are still rough edged, melodies still have an underhanded element. Yet there is a subdued humanity in the sweetened strings, emotion coming to a head as the needle runs out.

Adriani & Ventura / State Of Art – Changing / Venice (Remix) [BAP060]

Two generations of Italian music history come together on this split 7inch. Milan meets Rome, Fred Ventura meets Alessandro Adriani. For this occasion Adriani and Ventura covered the 1982 evergreen ‘Changing’ by Bill Bruce. The perfect combination to pay homage to this monumental piece of music. On the flip side Fred’s early 80’s new wave band State Of Art got the remix treatment by Alessandro’s moniker Newclear Waves. Another unique match of these two key figures preserving the 80’s underground sound of Italy.

Odessa – Private Disco Show [BAP056]

ODESSA - Private Disco Show

Montreal. 1983. In the studio, Denis and Denyse LePage once again marry their musical ability to produce a romance streaked electro disco gem. Fast forward three decades and the husband-wife partnership of Lime may be forgotten by some, but not by all. Odessa pays homage and treats you to a Private Disco Show. Synth lines are buffed and allowed to shine once again. Vocals take a back seat as glittering notes are given centre stage. Bright beaming bars, cascading chords and heady harmonies bob and weave in this refreshing of a true classic.

Surf Dancer – Rainbow Man [BAP067]

The frosts of Finland are blasted away by the radiate synthesizer sunlight of Surf Dancer. Rich analogue textures are supported by Surf Dancer’s love of the vocoder, computer-spoken lyrics twirling amidst addictive melodies and clean-cut beats. Sweet notes and even sweeter words swirl in this world of ray guns, unicorns and of course rainbows. Strings soar skyward in the elation of “Rainbow Man” before the sleek funk of “Rocket in my Pocket”. Joy pours from the needle drop, instant happiness and body moving music from start to finish, the end coming in the xylophonic goodness of Future in the Night”.

The Italian soundtrack synthesisers will touch the trans-siberian world and end with a slow burner named “What Is To Be Done”.

A Visitor From Another Meaning – Lost Encounters I [BAP062]

A Visitor From Another Meaning returns to earth, and vinyl. The Viewlexx veteran is back on our world with Lost Encounters I, four cuts from the vaults. Beamed in from a distant galaxy is the blazing brilliance of “Dance of the Happy Shadows.” Past film score greats immediately come to mind. Vangelis. Carpenter. Moroder. “I Rarely Talk to Strangers” pulses with crisp beats and rumbling arpeggios, cloudy skies ready to rain on a polluted L.A. in 2019. The blue dot is left behind for the elation of “J is for Jupiter.” The stars are the place to be. “J is for Jupiter II” drifts from cosmic currents before illuminating the heavens for the lead out into end credits.

Bionda e Lupo – Ton Rire EP [BAP053]

Past midnight. Empty streets. From an ill lit doorway a sound. A woman. Shadow. A scent. Drawn into one. Smoke and synthesizer music swirls. Bionda E Lupo. Crossing the threshold, tripping into twilight. Analogue emotion, styles twirled like garlands. Nervous shuffles and the touch of fingertips. Weaving, bodies twirl as morning shoulders into night. The realisation. The edge of eyes. Curl of lip. The click of heels with creak of floor. Feeling flows, ebbs, cascades and floods. Lipstick and heavy perfume. Two forms swimming in currents, bending to one another in the warm glow of aging speakers. Breath and pulse quicken. Electricity spiked with passion. The final embrace. Whispered promises. A kiss.

Model Man – Hidden Waves EP [BAP057]

Bordello A Parigi is returning to where it all began. Four years ago DJ Overdose inaugurated the label under his masked Model Man moniker. Now he’s back. Missile crisis and intercepted communique, Hidden Waves collects six underhanded secret music documents of Cold War espionage. Screaming out of the frost-biten night comes the mean and fast new wave inspired “Peeking Through The Blinds”. Softer encounters lurk, “Hidden Waves” and “The Plot Thickens While Pangea Cracks” being silver screen steeped soundtracks. Twist after twist are added to this narrative. “Burning Bed” smoulders with rich synthlines whilst “Antidote” ducks down an alley and dons a bleaker punk-wave mantle. The final late night exchange arrives with “Flying Knives”. Cool and smooth the track takes its cue from velvet lined wine bars and strong martinis. Model Man rising from the shadows to, again, show how things should be done.

G-Machine – Primo Contatto [BAP044]

Turning back the clock, before fast forwarding it, comes Giovanni Damico as G-Machine. A new virtuoso of space boogie. Buckle up, destination: Primo Contatto. Across eight tracks the Italian astronaut traverses the sounds of the cosmos. Warbling reverberations introduce “Flying Objects”, with thick bands of synthesizer throbbing in its veins. The ultra slick “Contact” follows. Electrofunk bars float beneath stratospheric synth. Styles co-mingle. Patrick Cowley melts with Afrika Bambaataa. Disco Magic meets Tommy Boy. An overarching groove permeates the album, a heady funk that courses through tracks like “Body on the Ground” and “Transmission”. The moon based mirrorball sounds flex and flow, “It’s A Shame” cutting floors with sleek vocoders and addictive analogue riches. If you’re waiting for re-entry think again, there is no return ticket. G-Machine will only be taking passengers further and further on his cosmic odyssey with tracks like “In My Arms” and “Boogie Down”. Buck Rogers in the 25th century breakdowns and rollerskate goodness from needle drop to the run-out.
