Galaxy Lane – Later That Night [LR016]

If Galaxy Lane’s first EP didn’t send the portals of time and space upside down, then the second EP will throw you down a vortex of hypnotic grooves juxtaposed with eerily erratic rhythms built in outer space. The first of two EP’s to be trusted in the hands of Lone Romantic, ‘Night’ and ‘Later That Night’ will explore the concept of capturing moments in time. Side 2 sets off on an exploration of wild eyed boundary flexing in the shape of ‘Enter The Light’. Pushing the machines to near breaking point whilst just hanging on, it’s a track that shows what can be done when the spaceship is left to drive itself, you can do nothing more than go with it and and see what happens. ‘Snow Day’ is perhaps the perfect way to round us back in. A more calmer, smoother ride, it’s unmistakable polyrhythms soothing the soul and setting us up for the next chapter…

Galaxy Lane – The Night [LR015]

If Galaxy Lane’s first EP didn’t send the portals of time and space upside down, then the second EP will throw you down a vortex of hypnotic grooves juxtaposed with eerily erratic rhythms built in outer space. The first of two EP’s to be trusted in the hands of Lone Romantic, ‘Night’ and ‘Later That Night’ will explore the concept of capturing moments in time. ‘The Night’ will propel the listener into ethereal textures layered over rough and raw beats, as outlined on opening track ‘Deep Space Nine’. If that sets you up for thinking this will be a dreamy ride, ‘Communication’ hits hard at the rear of the spaceship, coming at you with intergalactic bleeps, zaps and back cracking rhythms made for getting down.

The Housefactors – Big Bang Theory [ML2307]

Alleviated Records presents the first-time official reissue of one of Larry Heard’s (Mr. Fingers) most coveted aliases: The Housefactors. Big Bang Theory, originally released on Black Market in 1990, sounds like nothing else that we have heard from the man. It sees the Chicago native branch out into the bleepy sounds that were starting to arise across the Atlantic, yet still manages to keep that distinct Fingers soul. A dancefloor sure shot to this day.

Aquatronics – Deep Horizons EP [MS003]

For their third release Magnonic Signals have recruited Aquatronics, a producer whose previous releases show off a penchant for electronics that steer towards a drexciyan sound palate and ethos… The EP kicks off with (+) Wave Gliders a bubbling electro burner with deep warm pads and fizzing 808 drum programming accompanied by thick hypnotic melodies, really sets the tone. (++) Ocen Myst takes us deeper into the abyss with a wonderful low end and glassy synth lines taking centre stage, beautiful and sorrowful electro. (-) Deep Horizons, the title track, is the kind of electro that takes you on a journey through the depths of the pacific ocean, lush warm pads and synths lines full of emotional content, wrapped masterfully over snappy snares and shimmering hi-hats, this track has it all. (- -) Twilight Dive closes the ep in great style, a fat low end over a cracking 4/4 to create a superb electro/techno crossover, a track that is sure to set dancefloors alight. From start to finish this is an EP of pure electro bliss and not one to miss.

Florence – Analogue Expressions [DSR/EEVO001]

Delsin turns its attention to the archives of one of the great early pioneers of Dutch techno – Eevo Lute Muzique. The label was founded in 1991 by Wladimir Manshanden and Stefan Robbers (who was already recording seminal early techno records as Terrace for Djax-Up-Beats). Channeling the inspiration of the Detroit originators and mixing it up with their own synth pop and new wave influences, Manshanden and Robbers (adopting the Florence alias) forged a bold aesthetic with Eevo Lute, both musically and visually. This was an early iteration of techno as listening music, with an emphasis on expression and narrative over dancefloor functionality, helped in no small part by Manshanden’s striking poetry. This double set of remastered, reissued tracks gathers together the earliest Florence and Wladimir M. material, largely recorded between 1991 and 1994, across five discs – the definitive document of a treasured piece of Dutch techno history.

The Analogue Cops – Lucretio versus Marieu Vol.2 [MEMENTO043]

Lucretio and Marieu a.k.a. The Analogue Cops come back on Memento with a four tracks EP. Lucretio delivers two cuts written and produced with the extraordinary Kyma workstation: “Ghetto Stab” is an heavy DanceMania influenced party banger while “Any Idea” is a deep techno journey into the realms of spectral manipulation. Marieu brings in all the hardware horsepower romanticism with “Tab and Rub” and “The Restored Text”; the first being acid excursion into the memories of the earl From days, the second interpolating massive kick drums and saturated harmonics with frantic vocal samples.

Sleeparchive – Trust [TRESOR316]

Throughout his career, Roger Semsroth has followed a deep intuition for experimentation in sound, wrapping club music around eerie microtonal motifs and industrial sensibilities. This new work for Tresor takes a step forward, as the first true techno album from Sleeparchive, where his previous LPs have exhibited themselves more conceptually, or under di erent names and his Nord Vest label. Semsroth has been active in electronic music since the late 90s. He received initial attention first for his electro productions under the alias Skanfrom and the 80s minimal synth inspired Television Set. These projects echoed his love for these sounds, which the East Berliner had steadily immersed himself with after the end of the GDR. Upon hearing the bleeps of Mika Vainio and Plastikman, he began to engage with his strain of techno. Over the last decade, he has focused on his Sleeparchive alias, which dates back to 2004. Alongside close friend DJ Pete, he performs live techno as TR-101. His relationship with Tresor began in 2011, first releasing the Ronan Point EP and following up with the crucial A Man Dies In The Street series in 2013. With this new album, Sleeparchive’s impact on the techno sound is ever more relevant. Awaking in constant locomotion, locked-in, unrelenting and dry. Sleeparchive’s churning loops etch visions of tight minimalism at times densely frenetic and others serenely galactic. This predilection continues throughout the four sides on the album, eschewing conventional arrangement styles with gradual probabilistic change. Tracks such as ‘Needle’ and ‘Peccant’ o er up precise, sinewy techno. ‘Leave’ recalls the Detroit sound of Terrence Dixon, with its cascading synth tones and droning atmospheres. The album closes with a di erent version of ‘Trust’ to that found on last year’s Revised Recordings EP released on Tresor, with its now-familiar nerve-inducing pizzicato strings even more at the fore with its mechanic delivery.

Artefakt – Icarus [143DSR]

After launching their own De Stijl label last year, Artefakt are back on Delsin with Icarus, a sparkling new four track outing. Known for their intricate sound design and deep yet hard hitting grooves. Always serving up atmospheric music that is artful and filled with rich detail, they continued on their own path once again here. Starting with the smooth and hypnotic, stripped back grooves from Icarus. Followed by the cavernous and immersive ambient trip Ganzfeld Effect. The darker Vapour is still heady and meticulously crafted with deft little details, a rich sound field and supple techno drums getting you in the zone. Delphic then offers crisp breakbeats, dubby drums and electrically charged synths that are physical but emotional. It’s another perfect fusion of light and dark, thoughtful and physical techno from this ever impressive pair.

Millsart – Every Dog Has Its Day part 5 [AX085]

This New Year, Jeff Mills is inviting us to look inward in the form of his Every Dog Has Its Day series. The last time we had an installment came 17 years ago, just enough time for a periodical cicada to emerge from theground, finished with its former life as a nymph. The sixth edition of this series is soon to follow in spring dressed in brown, continuing to deliver a spiritual and emotional raft for you to see that Every Dog Has Its Day. Mills himself has said, “You never figure out life, you just get used to it.” Reflected in this record is that sentiment, that life doesn’t present to you the answers because there are none. What is right and just for you, may not be for me, so how can I share with you any secrets. Electronic music can act as a guide, a catalyst of your headspace; it is not the map.
