Body Mechanic has been turning out definitive Motor City techno on solid labels like Cryovac, and GASS for several years. This time out he lands-on Detroit Techno and serves up, well, some electro. It’s classic 313 tackle though – heavy on the kicks, snappy snares and filthy dirty basslines that make you want to move. Ghoulish vocals add extra grit to the opener and from there ‘Dance’ gets more playful with jittery drum funk and scratching, ‘Beautiful Bum’ has a gorgeously tender and reflective vibe thanks to the minor chords and smooth electro rhythms, ‘Magic (feat Tay) ‘ slips into a deep and soulful house groove and ‘Househead’ is jacked up, loopy and well swung amongst several more timeless cuts.

James Pennington is a true Motor City original who will forever be etched into the legendary city’s musical history. Under his revered Suburban Knight alias he crafted the powerful single ‘Listening Systems’ in 2021, initially limited to a spotter-taunting 200 copies, but now repressed – and relax, record buyers everywhere. It’s a deep, warm, driving techno cut stripped back to the bare essentials with a smoky vocal whisper adding the intimacy to a kicking rhythm that is dubbed out and soft around the edges but not lacking in impact. Perfect music for mind, body and head that needs to be played nice and loud.
Those buried in the soil of the red planet dance forever in the afterlife. You can hear their rhythm in the dust storms at night. Remastered 12” version of this all time classic from Detroit. A true Techno staple.

Detroit’s DJ 3000 is back with a fresh new release, the Immigrant Son EP on his own Motech label. “Immigrant Son” is a heartfelt celebration of family and deep-rooted traditions. The track “Gëzuar,” meaning “Cheers” in Albanian, blends traditional Albanian rhythms with the soulful essence of Detroit techno, creating a unique and compelling soundscape. Another standout track, “Kanuni (Traditë Mix),” draws inspiration from the Code of Lekë Dukagjini, further enriching the EP with historical and cultural depth. Smooth morphing Detroit synths and some theme’s that remind of his roots in Europe.
Theo Parrish’s venerated Sound Signature label hits the notable milestone of 100 releases with this new double album, Skin Breaker, from Howard Thomas. ”The inspiration for ‘Skin Breaker’ comes from my early years of watching sci-fi films. Howard has always been fascinated by them . As a huge fan of 80s beat tracks and 80s sci-fi, Howard aimed to blend those influences into this project. This project is a tribute to the sounds and styles that have inspired him.”
As The Vision, Robert Hood provided Detroit techno a pinnacle of the artform. It may be justifiably best known for the lip-bitingly strong minimalist transport of Detroit: One Circle with its sparing central refrain “Detroit” and spine-playing riffage, or for the killer Explain The Style variant, but for us the EP’s shortest and freakiest number Modern And Ancient is also one of its strongest, a mad, half-stepping slice of Afro-futurist electro encryption that still blows our mind today.
‘The Eyewitness’ reveals a habitual pattern in the way it symbolizes a mirror reflection of mankind in our most vulnerable moments. The new album of Jeff Mills and it is composed from the perspective of an unknowingly complicit bystander and it is at the very least, psychologically pathological in nature. What this release is essentially proposing is an admission to the diagnosis that no one is immune to shock and trauma. Not the accuser or the accused. And this abnormality s culturally and generally transmittable – handed down and passed over to one another disguised as righteous theatre. As an artist, what Mills is notoriously known for is the perspectives and paths he chooses to approach hefty, complex, and sometimes, awkward subjects. The best way to recognize the narratives of his mostrecent album works such as “The Clairvoyant”, an eerie transcending album that plays through like a Seance for creating a bridge to reach another dimension or “Mind Power Mind Control”, a cautionary warning about the consequences of supporting deceit, mind control and mass mental persuasion is to start by first taking a moment to look at yourself in a mirror. He’s suggesting sound as a reflection and what we might be able to see in ourselves. Proposing that we might be the problem and a solution. In the same vicinity of his recent solo albums, the direction, scope or target of The Eyewitness is first about us, then about it.
