Frank & Tony – Ethos LP [SAT064LP]
More about the world has changed than not in the decade since dance production dyad Frank & Tony, the project of house legends Francis Harris and Anthony Collins, released their last full-length record, 2014’s “You Go Girl”. Despite, or perhaps in spite of, this shifting landscape, house music has managed to stay fundamentally reliable (either a bug or its greatest feature, depending on who you ask). Where previously, Frank & Tony have been celebrated for their contemplative, studious approach to the genre, with 2024’s “Ethos”, the Brooklyn/Biarritz-based duo return amidst metastatic cultural upheaval to prove out those scholarly credentials — with an album that serves to remind listeners why dancefloors and liberatory politics consistently share the language of movements and revolutions.

On the flip there’s “Equinox” keeping on with a deep and soulful Detroit deep house sound that fans of Kai Alce would appreciate while “H4” ends things on truly uplifting note, with its dreamy xylophone vibes working with some more nice trumpet sounds and rich strings on a seven minute epic.
DJ Aakmael – The Rise EP [UNX007]
7th project from Dj Aakmael. ‘Rise’ is a blissful, relaxed string based track with playful keys thats perfect for any chill lounge or dance floor. ‘Jazz Piece’ is a sampled piece of art, where Aak cuts and chops a vintage groove for the 2014 crowd with that old NJ deep house feel. ‘Untitled 105’ is a dope club thumper that takes you back to that headknod feeling. ‘Untitled 101’ with its thumping beat and dramatic horns & strings concludes a well-packaged project.
