Third release on Albion Records. Rick Wade’s lush, deep house tune “Giggin” is paired with Brit Wil Maddams’ aptly titled “Warm Organic”. The jackin’ retro vibe of “Feel It” by Gene Hunt is paired with the groovy techno of “Woods For Trees” by Dudley Strangeways on the flip of the “Council Estate Soldiers” EP.

Giorgio Luceri – Liger EP [SAFT006]

LUCERI, Giorgio - Liger EP

Gear appreciating Italian ”Giorgio Luceri” enters the SAFT dome with the machine driven ”Liger EP”. On the opening track ”Liger” Giorgio cleverly paints an elusive ambiance using jumbled drums and an appealing bassline together with a continual synthline that nicely sits on top of the serene pads that give rise to an intense atmosphere. The B1 side opens with similar soothing pads that gradually change when the immense bassline and full bodied kick drum come in. Giorgio again creates a somewhat adverse vibe which helps to give it a hint of lushness. For the B2, Chicago legend ‘Gene Hunt’ contributes with a massive percy remix for ”Liger”. A lot of drum action is present in this club oriented (yet deep) roller.

Here’s the pitch: ask six of Chicago’s finest exponents of bumping house and pitched down disco cuts to contribute some of their finest works, blend them all together and present in the appropriate space either side of two 12″ slabs. What’s the end product? The rather hot looking Chicago Service from the Amsterdam label Lumberjacks in Hell which features a merry cast of the city’s finest in Gene Hunt, Rahaan, Jamie 3:26, Cratebug, Hugo H and Boogie Nite across two hot plates.

Robert Williams & Ron Hardy – Muzic Box [RH122]

https://objectstore.true.nl/rushhourrecords:files/styles/cover_large/storage-api-public/covers/67/67476.jpg?itok=rqjhvTA_

This tasty sampler featuring two Music Box inspired edit tracks is a prequel to some very nice things ahead. First up is Derrick May’s edit of Let No Man Put Us Under. An edit that he did in the late 80s, which was directly inspired by his trips to the Muzic Box, where he would hear Ron Hardy play the song. One which marks the direct influence that Chicago had on Detroit dance music. On the flip we find a track from another child of the Box, Gene Hunt. ‘Sound Drome’ is an amazing building drum track that totals over 13 minutes. This version takes direct influence from the Muzic Box and Ron Hardy with the acapella intro that Ron used to play as well. The real insanity starts 8 minutes into the track when the tempo is pitched down (and then back up). The kind of madness that only Ron would create on the dance floor.

Gene Hunt – May The Funk Be With You [RH039]

The ‘May The Funk Be With You’ white label gets a full release. Gene Hunt takes a classic warehouse theme and turns it into an almost anthemic, synth laden Chicago jack release. Theo Parrish turns it into a hypnotic eight minute long gospel-techno-jazz work out that just sticks.

Gene Hunt – Cancemnini EP [HHYR09 ]

We welcome Chicago house veteran Gene Hunt to HHYR. With this great 4 track EP Gene shows us he still has the touch. This EP includes three deep, yet raw tracks somewhere between jacking Chicago and classic Detroit. It reminds us of tracks by Boo Williams, Glenn Underground etc. Special mention goes out to ‘I Know You Care’, which is a lush disco track.
