Nortasun – Two [SAFT19]

NORTASUN - Two

The elusive producer ‘Nortasun’ hasn’t released a record since his debut ‘One’ through SAFT back in 2016. After two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named ‘Two’. The track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: ‘Untitled 3’. On this track, Nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. Next up is the ‘AntonZap’ remix. AntonZap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. His version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. With just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.

DâM-Funk – Architecture II [SAFT18]

DâM-Funk has left his LA home for another DJ tour across the European continent. What better way to celebrate this than to release a follow-up record to the infamous Architecture release from 2016. Architecture II is an up-tempo, dreamlike journey through the sonic palette of the Los Angeles based producer. The 12” contains four tracks that are carefully crafted to co-exist on the same record. ‘In The City’ is a drum oriented breeder with a constantly evolving bass line, that supports the cheerful and breezy melodies. ‘Best Weekend’ is dripping with lush synthesizer tones and meaty drums. DaM-Funk knows how to set a hazy atmosphere, the conflicting tones of the sophomore effort are impressive. ‘Best Weekend’ is a must hear for lovers of the DF repertoire. The B-side is opening up with the warm sounds of ‘Bounce’. The artist’s signature basslines thump away whilst a breezy chord and some exceptional FX work help to achieve a sense of lightness. ‘Don’t Give Up’ is a work of challenging Piano riffs and splashy synthesizers that evolve through and sometimes come together in an abundance of modulation and joy.

Lerosa – Playa De La Guancha [SAFTX001]

For the first release on SAFTX , Lerosa hands out a taster of the labels new series ambitions. Vivrant house music is most definitely the back bone of Playa De La Guancha as a whole. The opening is packed with a strapping rhythm section and a vocal cut that is reminiscent of the Trax Records classic House Nation. Julius Steinhoff (of Smallpeople fame) gives Soul Tracing a modern sounding treatment that completely shifts the feel of the original and turns it into an adventurous piece of contemporary electronics.

Chris Gray – From Fear to Fantasia [PULP06]

GRAY, Chris - From Fear To Fantasia

Chicago based ‘Chris Gray’ has appeared on multiple releases throughout the 90s and the new millennium. While some of his most appreciated works have been published through his own imprint Deep4Life, for the next PULP release, Chris gets deep and melodious with some funked out synths whilst maintaining that lush deep atmosphere that has proven to be his signature mode.

Moon B – Measure Pleasure [PULP005]

The title track ”Measure Pleasure” has that buldging funk bass lying underneath some spacey pads and a great rhythm track. Golden Ivy’s version of the title track is emphasizing on the rhythm even more by adding bursting FX and obese kickdrums. Moon B’s Nada Clouds (A3) is a positive yet exotic journey which should be excellent for summer gig’s on rooftops anywhere in the world. For the B1 Moon B continues with the percussion laden ”PV Hills”, this bit has those signature chord switches and vibe changes, that are creating a very melancholic atmosphere throughout. British master of all things melodic ”Fudge Fingas” flips the original completely, making it more streamlined with just a hint more power.

Giorgio Luceri – Liger EP [SAFT006]

LUCERI, Giorgio - Liger EP

Gear appreciating Italian ”Giorgio Luceri” enters the SAFT dome with the machine driven ”Liger EP”. On the opening track ”Liger” Giorgio cleverly paints an elusive ambiance using jumbled drums and an appealing bassline together with a continual synthline that nicely sits on top of the serene pads that give rise to an intense atmosphere. The B1 side opens with similar soothing pads that gradually change when the immense bassline and full bodied kick drum come in. Giorgio again creates a somewhat adverse vibe which helps to give it a hint of lushness. For the B2, Chicago legend ‘Gene Hunt’ contributes with a massive percy remix for ”Liger”. A lot of drum action is present in this club oriented (yet deep) roller.
