Jerome Sydenham, Aybee, Ron Trent – S.A.T. [IRC125]

S.A.T. is the new production unit formed of Jerome Sydenham, Aybee and Ron Trent, three individuals whose respective discographies command instant respect. What apparently started as a simple dinner one night has grown into a full album between the three who evidently struck on a studio chemistry that warrants further material on the strength of this eight track album. Issued by Sydenham’s Ibadan label, SAT lives up to the sales notes billing as “loose and organic” and cuts like “The Gate” and “She Was” have that timeless quality one expects from a project Ron Trent is involved in. It all feels remarkably cohesive despite the fact the trio completed the album in under three weeks.

Jerome Sydenham – Bad Dog [APT014]

SYDENHAM, Jerome - Bad Dog (Cover-Front)

‘Bad Dog’ shows Jerome exploring an experiment in thoroughly inspired Chicago House flavoured Techno. Lake Michigan’s chill runs all through the bass, hats and snares. A-sides don’t come much better than this. Completing the A-Side is, ‘Rabid Dog’. This is some foam – mouthed Techno with a lighter hint of old-school Chicago. One B-side, ‘Good Dog’ is a classy tune complete with Detroit stabs that get the Jerome treatment and a heavy dose of perfectly tinged 909 hats, that slice right through the mix.

Jerome Sydenham – Trombipolution Pt. 2 [DC75.5]

Cover art - Jerome Sydenham: Trombipolution Pt. 2

It’s a swift return to Drumcode for Jerome Sydenham. “In The Zone” does what it says on the tin, swiftly locking into a brooding heads down techno groove, driven by intricate textured drums, scratched vocal effects and a singular synth throb that gradually increases with hypnotic intent as the track progresses. The flipside excursion “Amp” proves to be just as menacing a peak time proposition with a guttural bassline that twinges with evil intent sitting deep below crisp minimal drums and an undulating rhythmic buzz.
