Benny Rodrigues – I Like Acid [BAO029]

Rotterdam’s Benny Rodrigues’ interpretation of acid house takes the form of ”I Like Acid”, and surely it sounds classic! Acid synth madness like in the old days but with an updated touch. ”Choice” hypnotic appeal will not get unnoticed on the floor, once again a track that finds its strength in the basic structure of its arrangement, effective drums patterns with a ”freakish” top line that carry the track into peak time. Steve Rachmad as ”Sterac” and Mike Dehnert are providing the remixes for ”I Like Acid”, to close the EP.

Mike Dehnert – Framework [86DSR]

Framework

Framework – as you’d expect of a man who performs genuinely live for hours, often only ever calling on his own tweaked, edited and skewed productions – is an uncompromising album made up of pure techno tracks of the sort you’d expect to hear on the dancefloors of places like Berghain or Tresor. They go from pulsing and classic sounding to skipping and glitchy, through greyed-out and sandy via swinging and syncopated but always with a sense of restraint and control whether they are abstract, apocalyptic, atmospheric or whatever else. Drawing from a dusty, dirty toolbox of sounds, the echo-y, cavernous chambers and dusky warehouse aesthetics of Dehnert’s moody music betrays the purity and simplicity of his arrangements. Although his records are undeniably functional, at the same time, they are neither nondescript nor forgettable: somehow, through masterful sound designs and an accomplished knack for blending real tension and atmosphere with his obvious Basic Channel and Berghain influences, Mike Dehnert manages to lock you into whatever mood takes his fancy with apparent ease.

Mike Dehnert – Air Frais EP [ECHOCORDCOLOUR013]

MIKE DEHNERT - Air Frais Ep image

Mike Dehnert offers three bouncing chunks of dub techno for Echocord’s colour series. ‘Treillis’ sets off to a laidback momentum with chrning dub bass joined by spooky metallic noises. ‘Pompage’ is more typical Dehnert, getting the blood going with pumping bass and agile, offset syncopations. ‘Thermique’ returns to the ghoulish dub techno style with a palette of stray noises and stabs calcified around his heaving bassline and efficient percussion.

Mike Dehnert – Part 2 [FW012-1]

MIKE DEHNERT - Part 2 image

‘Part 2’ is essentially a status report on the last 12 months or so in Mike Dehnert’s world. He re-evaluates and modifies tracks from three previous releases, together with a handful of new cuts in a set of tidy versions for the digital crew. Both ‘Umluft’ cuts hit heavy with that stern German/Detroit flavour while ‘WH1′ and WH2’ serve perpetual techno revisions from the ‘Poutres EP’ and elsewhere we get killers from the ‘Dico’ EP.

Mike Dehnert – Dico EP [FW012]

Mike Dehnert delivers with this 12 on his own Fachwerk label. After the stir of his limited MD2 release another piece of black wax with some heavy deep bass driven techno tools. 3 powerfull overwhelming tracks that are still subtile and classy. 3 tracks that slowly push the bounderies of techno rooted in the Berlin traditions mixed with some Detroit flavor. Especially the b track is a true killer with 90’s style open off beat 909 hi-hats and great tension.

Mike Dehnert – Lautschrift [CBS03]

After succesful releases on Fachwerk and the MASSIVE first release on the Clone Basement series, the time has come for another essential 12″ release by Mike Dehnert. “Lautschrift” is – to put it mildly – a wolf in sheep clothes. A sub-zero techno belter complete with vocoded voice, soft bleepy sounds and a deep bass… Properly stands out!! On the flip “Regelschrift” and “Nano” are two heavy techno tracks of the ‘neuer-berliner techno schulle’ .
