Orlando Voorn – The Master 2 LP [CONTRA007]
Contrafact welcomes back Dutch icon and studio wizard, Orlando Voorn, who brings a fresh new sound with his second contribution to the label – a double vinyl album entitled ‘The Master 2’. On this long player we see Orlando delivering an album that flips the switch, moving through different shades of jazzy house, soulful funk, but still very much in Detroit zone. It’s an infectious mix of debonair soul and hi-tech jazzism injected with Voorn’s versatile palette of deep dynamics, next-level machine talk and otherworldly funk. Staying true to the velveteen house vibrations that’ve been the driving force to his seminal records through nearly three decades of mythology, Voorn drops a textbook sample of his lush and unhindered vision for innovative and soul inspiring music. This album rolls up its sleeves and pulls out a potent artillery of foot shuffling jazzy house beats, intricate drum work, and some bleached-out synths that will wash away all those the winter blues.

Taken from the Clone Records Sonic Transmutations compilation the trippy ”Darkheart Energy” by Orlando Voorn in his Frequency guise comes in the original instrumental and 3 remixes from Marcal, the Lady Machine and Lenson. Three different heavyweight techno bunker interpretations, all worthy of the Repetitive Rhythm stamp.
Infiniti – Game One [KNT030P]
The techno masterpiece by Juan Atkins & Orlando Voorn gets a remix treatment including mixes by Steve Rachmad and DJ S2 aka Santiago Salazar, former member of Underground Resistance and co-founder of the Historia y Violencia label together with Silent Servant. The original version of Game One was released on Metroplex back in 1994. The Steve Rachmad mix and Salazar remake have both been carefully restored from the original tapes and then remastered. Santiago made an alternative mix in the same session which is exclusive to this release and previously unreleased.
Frequency – Turn The Light [RRR007]
Repetitive Rhythm Research mainstay Frequency returns to the series with ”Turn The Light”. Taking cues from classic Detroit influences, but taking it even deeper with trippy vocal edits and tight production. Alden Tyrell & Serge turn the lights up with a bottom heavy remix. ”Space Dub Work” closes in style with it’s deep dubby breakbeat.

Orlando Voorn – Internal Destination [KOM426]
Kompakt welcomes 2021 with a new member in the person of Dutch techno legend, Orlando Voorn. Orlando brings his extensive knowledge of Techno and House to the forefront for his Kompakt debut “Internal Destination”. Spacial sounds connect perfectly together – the playfulness of the track feels like each moment is caught in mid-air but the beat keeps it all moving forward without hesitation. “Ride The Wave” rounds out this EP – an electro loop is serenaded by a funked up synth melody that jams to the drum in the most soulful of ways.

Dutch Techno master Orlando Voorn has opened up his archive for the first of what will be an ongoing artist focused series brought to you by new imprint Above Board Projects. The compilation will be spread across 2 double 12″ volumes and will feature tracks from many of Voorn’s pseudonyms including; Fix, Baruka, The Ghetto Brothers, Mute & many more. Part 2 opens with the minimalistic bladerunner Techno of Voorn & Juan Atkins’ Infiniti classic ‘Game One’, a true modern classic, also featured is the rolling, paranoia inducing late night groove of ‘Dream World’ from one of Voorn’s more obscure projects Complex, all showcasing a wide variety of styles and sounds. Flawless selections from the early 90’s sitting alongside later productions only go to show how diverse and talented an artist Voorn is and how fresh and vital his music still is today. An essential collection for any serious techno lover.
Orlando Voorn – Diligence Pt.1 [ABPLP001]
Dutch Techno master Orlando Voorn has opened up his archive for the first of what will be an ongoing artist focused series brought to you by new imprint Above Board Projects. The compilation will be spread across 2 double 12″ volumes and will feature tracks from many of Voorn’s pseudonyms including; Fix, Baruka, The Ghetto Brothers, Mute & many more. This is the first of a 2-part archival collection entitled ‘Diligence’. Each track featured on the compilation has been carefully selected and programmed in conjunction with Orlando Voorn and the Above Board Projects team. Voorn has an extremely long and storied career in making music and is severely underrated as a producer. His DJ skills are, of course, legendary, with him winning the prestigious DMC mixing championships in 1986 in his native Holland and making a career as one of the country’s leading Hip-Hop DJ’s. As a producer he has long been linked to numerous legendary producers and releases, counting labels such as Fragile, Metroplex and more as homes for his output. His association and collaborations with Detroit have been the stuff of legend since day one and some of the music contained within these compilations celebrate that while showcasing some of the more overlooked tracks from the man’s more than extensive catalogue. Part 1 includes some serious rarities and some straight up, futurist Techno heat, take the majestic technoid melodies of comp opener ‘Diligent’ from one of Voorn’s most well loved alias’ FIX for example, completely worlds apart from the jacking and sparse Funk of Baruka’s killer ‘Technision’. Flawless selections from the early 90’s sitting alongside later productions only go to show how diverse and talented an artist Voorn is and how fresh and vital his music still is today. An essential collection for any serious techno lover.

The various EP opens with V9843 from Heath Brunner aka Silicon, previously released on the “There Was a Day” white label on V-max records and is a driving melodic techno classic. Next up there’s Manic (Maana Mix) by Erotek, doing what he does best with a ghetto electro beat. On the flipside there’s “Paradox”, an old archival track by Orland Voorn reminiscent of his earlier techno works from the 90s. Eoism close the EP with “Floaters”, a mellow electro track in the vein of the artists previous output on our label.
