The genre-qualifying dub techno chord might be infectious enough in its own right, but Kiev technician Yan Pylypchuk aka Yan Cook knows how to make it speak. ‘Balance’ on Planet Rhythm hears him automate cutoff and resonant frequency in phase; as dynamics intensify, so do the timbres mouth off. Aside from that leading brilliance, ‘Brainwash’ follows as the A2’s calculating sack of sound, before the B’s ‘Ember’ and ‘Kazan’ floor the floor with their doomy, futuristic mecha-lomania.
Rotterdam techno collective Planet Rhythm drop five new techno tracks made by Red Rooms. Channeling a propulsive aesthetic reminiscent, given the album cover, of a grey sonic future vision a-la THX 1138 or Brave New World – a dystopian future built around rapid-transit subterranean, a state system built entirely underground tunnels for electric cars – the likes of ‘Prometheus’, ‘B110BE’ and ‘On The Level’ are underground bowler-overs, hearing us give over to a propulsive world of rapid engineered movement and humming velocity.

After releasing various efforts through the Rotterdam based imprint over the last few years, Yan Cook comes up with a double LP consisting of 2 discs with 2 tracks on each side. Whilst shifting between various sides of the Yan Cook identity the XX LP proves to be an effective and bulding package over mechanic Techno sounds with strong builds and exciting taints of FX.
