TWR72 – Reflect Part 2 [FLOAT005]

Float Records first vinyl release is a fact. And what could be better then divide it in 2 parts. The first output reflects the second. Label owners TWR72 presents you ‘Reflect’. The 1st remix comes from Berlin based Markus Suckut. A subtle angle is taken on Reflect which makes the remix feel sustainable. Just the perfect remix to include in his impeccable oeuvre. All the way from Finland is analog devotee Samuli Kemppi, who takes care of the 2nd remix. Samuli creates a sudden tension with builds up until the very end. A001, from Amsterdam, turns the original Reflect into a obscure remix with an perplexing 2nd half. A001’s mysterious and quiet appearance is a paradox compare to his musical output. TWR72 closes the EP with the bonus track ‘Response’.

Samuli Kemppi – Parallax Of One Second EP [MRECLTD017]

‘Parallax Of One Second EP’ is Samuli Kemppi’s third outing on M_Rec Ltd, after the full ‘Cyclic Model EP’ and remix inclusion on Ben Gibson’s ‘More Than Milk’, and sees the Fin plundering the astronomic theme once again with stellar sci-fi precision. On the A-side: “Extragalactic” opens with swirling technoid vistas, on a wonky robo-dance floor in a future imaged long ago. Warbling chimes and tweeting astro-creatures continue to plague “Astrometric Precision”, bleating at one another on our serene shuttle through the cosmos. The B-side then takes a decided plunge with tougher piston sounds and grittier textures on “More Than Parsec” as our journey becomes more wild-eyed, concluding in the keyed radio-distress signals and itchy hats of “Less Than Planck”. I guess we’re never getting home wherever that may be, but this new universe isn’t so bad after all.

Shifted / Samuli Kemppi – Parallel Series 2 [MOTE028]

Having become something of a regular fixture in the Mote Evolver camp, Shifted is back once again to head up Side A of the second Parallel Series 12″. As you might expect, the techno comes bleak and throbbing from the Shifty one, although avoiding excessive heaviness over immersive progression and dubby FX. On the flip Samuli Kemppi plies his quirkier trade, using offbeat synth mess to counteract the steady rhythm of the bottom end on “Trans Neptunian”. “Detached Object” meanwhile fires off streams of interlocking sounds which spiral around the relentless kick for a classy exercise in techno restraint.

Samuli Kemppi – Kosmos EP [KOMISCH04]

Samuli Kemppi - Kosmos EP image

‘Kosmos’ and ‘Massa’ cuts are mesmerizing and sophisticated techno. PVH’s remix of ‘Massa’ shreds some of the tense rhythmic muscle to leave an unstable undercarriage of delayed bass kicks and ‘Suunta’ adds a cold thrilling melody to frost any room it’s deployed in.
