Shifted Phases – The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope [TRESOR196LPX]

Tresor Records reissue the sole output from Shifted Phases entitled “The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope”. Initially released in 2002, soon after James Stinson passed away, this LP plays a mysterious and compelling role in the Drexciya journey. While other records of Drexciya and related projects have received numerous reprints and editions, The Cosmic Memoirs… has remained out of print since its release. This rarity leaves it more open to interpretation with its place in the Drexciyan storm series, as it became increasingly hard to find and underexplored. This reissue does not merely close the loop on Tresor’s reissue series of the Drexciya catalogue but brings Shifted Phases to fresh ears more than other records.

King Sporty / Fashion Funktion – Sun Country [ERC147]

Here comes Emotional Rescue and Konduko’s last in their series of Noel Williams/King Sporty reissues, this time looking at later electro productions and the hip-hop/boogie influenced ‘Sun Country’. Vocals and co-production come from Williams’ long-time partner Betty Wright and as well as a vocal and instrumental mix there’s a longform remix by Bay Area disco dub stalwarts, 40 Thieves.

Delkom – Futur Ultra [SMR013]

Delkom’s only known previously released album. Originally released in 1990 by the wonder duo consisting of Saba Komossa and Gabi Delgado. The album is released as a continuous mix with each track delineated on the grooves. Imagine Berlin in 1990, the wall is about to come down, no social media, no CDJs, new drugs are being standardized and this is the soundtrack to your night out in this debaucherous capital, exploding with energies that anthropology PhD students still haven’t been able to fully describe. The entire record sounds like a dub mix that almost wasn’t allowed to be released by the record label, unorthodox in its methods, too experimental for most studios yet highly effective on the best of dancefloors. Sexually charged lyrics, driving percussive rawness over heftily synthesized bass lines, all boxes are checked for total club mayhem. Pioneers in their own right, clearly marking their territory in Berlin dancefloor culture from its early post reunification days. Powerfully tasteful and unique sounds from a golden age.

Chris & Cosey – Feral Vapours Of The Silver Ether [CTIFVOTSE22]

“Feral Vapours of the Silver Ether” is the second album by Chris & Cosey as Carter Tutti, following 2004’s Cabal. A haunting, gothic 11-tracker that revels more in cinematic beauty than abrasive sonic gristle, its standout pieces such as ‘Woven Clouds’ recalling the heartfelt studio masterpieces of This Mortal Coil or the mysterious blackgaze dissociations of Black Tape For A Blue Girl. Cosey’s voice appears in crystal clarity, against utmostly gut-wrenching string movements and synthetic choirs of angels.

Here’s all the versions that matter, including a beautiful and haunting Legowelt remix.

Garland – Heartbeat [DE289]

The Dark Entries Italo drop continues with Garland’s “Heartbeat”. This is another 1986 dancefloor bomb produced by Claudio Corradini along with Massimo Filippi. Art Déco singer and songwriter Claudio Valenti conceived of Garland as an outlet for his more dancefloor-oriented material. Inspired by Valenti’s time spent in London seeing Steve Strange (of New Romantic group Visage) DJ at Heaven, “Heartbeat” is an epic Italo number with a heavy New Wave stamp. Both the “Song Version” and the “Dance Version” are included on this reissue, with the latter featuring an extended intro and stripped down arrangement. This reissue is dedicated to Claudio Corradini, who sadly passed away in 2021.

Transllusion – The Opening Of The Cerebral Gate [TRESOR270LPX]

Following the re-release of Drexciya’s essentials ‘Neptune’s Lair’, ‘Hydro Doorways’, ‘Harnessed The Storm’ and ‘Digital Tsunami’, the reissue series continues with Transllusion’s ‘Opening Of The Cerebral Gate’ and the ‘Mind Over Positive And Negative Dimensional Matter’ 12”. Produced by the late James Marcel Stinson and released in 2001 via Supremat, a short-lived sub-label Tresor dedicated to a more abstract and experimental electro sound, ‘The Opening Of The Cerebral Gate’ was conceived as the second part of the so-called Drexciyan Storms – a whopping stack of seven albums by the Detroit pair released under di erent monikers within a single year. This phase marks a groundbreaking time for the duo, their cosmos breaking wide open, right at the dawn of a new technological era in electronic music production. All this is deeply reflected in Transllusion’s first album. Teknoafro – Teknoafro Mix [DSND008]

Borgo Dora is a multiethnic neighborhood located in the centre of Torino. A perfect example of inclusion between different people from (mainly) the Mediterranean area and home to Porta Palazzo, the largest open-air market in Europe. In 1991, a newly born studio located in the middle of the district guided by Biagio Puma decided to give birth to a dance LP called Teknoafro with the support of local Techno dj Bart Spinelli. The title almost speaks for itself, mixing the Italian “Afro” dj culture and the new Akai samplers with 909-driven Techno rhythms. The result was impressive, giving birth to a quite unique recording that reveals many aspects of the ’90s Italian dance creativity and tapestry. Dualismo Sound comes with a fully remastered selection of 6 tracks taken from the original LP.

Midori Takada – Tree of Life [WRWTFWW057]

WRWTFWW Records announce the worldwide reissue of Midori Takada’s solo album from 1999, Tree of Life, available on vinyl for the first time ever in a new audiophile mix by the Japanese percussionist herself, and in full half-speed-mastered glory. Originally recorded in September 1998 at legendary Ginza (Tokyo) studio Onkio Haus and released on CD only for the Japan market in 1999, Tree of Life is Midori Takada’s best kept secret, a lost gem of minimalism and percussive ambient. The album is separated in two parts, the first one finds Takada exploring her trademark environmental soundscapes with precise mastery of marimba, drums, and bells, notably on the magnificent fan-favorite ”Love Song Of Urfa”. The second half is a collaboration with Chinese virtuoso Erhu player Jiang Jian Hua, allowing Midori Takada to unveil new layers of her artistic mind with a slightly more theatrical approach and a beautiful crystallization of complex simplicity.

The Actor – Exploded View + Demos 1981-1984 [MNQ156]

Mannequin presents an expanded double-LP of ‘Exploded View’ from minimal synth Dutch pioneers The Actor. Originally released in 1982 by Trumpett Tapes, the album was repressed for the first time by Mannequin Records in 2014, and now is coming back to life again in 2022, enriched by an extra full-lenght of demos from a 1981-1984 period. Singing both in English and German, The Actor songs are often related to modernism, fashion and dancing, like a sort of early incarnation of Depeche Mode but totally devoted to home taping and diy recordings.

Maxine – Alien [THANKYOU017]

Going back to the vaults of the iconic X Energy Records label from Italy, Thank You presents yet another Balearic house masterpiece for your listening pleasure. Deep and sensual androgynous vocals, dreamy synth melodies, generously pulsating bass lines that blend with the playfulness of the rhythm – all boxes are checked. Surely a soundtrack that would have graced a daytime outdoor dance floor at Amnesia in the early 90s.
