Terrence Dixon – 12000 Miles Of Twilight [OUTA006]
Italian label Out-ER (Out Electronic Recordings) welcomes long standing Detroit producer Terrence Dixon for a 21 track triple vinyl pack ‘12,000 Miles Of Twilight’. The legend has been putting out material since the mid-nineties. Recognized worldwide for his visionary, futuristic sound, Dixon unites ages of inspiration traversing diverse musical styles including electro, jazz and minimal sci-fi techno. This overall hypnotic approach can also be seen in his parallel project Population One, which appeared on Out-ER respectively in early 2016 with two-tracker solo ‘Temporary Insanity EP’. ‘12,000 Miles Of Twilight’ remains an experimental techno asset offering a non-linear, emotionally absorbing journey into the singular experimental edge of the Detroit artist, pulling the listener in all kind of directions from the opening track to the closing finale.

The latest EP on Tresor Records comes from reduction luminary Terrence Dixon. Detroit’s most puzzling genius debuted on the label in 2000 with his first ever full length work – From The Far Future. It took over a decade for its sequel to follow – From The Far Future Pt.2 released in 2012 to great public acclaim. This year, Terrence Dixon prepared a matchless four track EP, going ever further in his very own tenor of collided electronics and mesmerizing tones. Words can simply not describe.

When Tresor founder Dimitri Hegemann stumbled into a former bank vault in East Berlin on March 13th 1991, he had little idea that the space he had unlocked would fast become one of Berlin’s most influential and enduring techno clubs. As Tresor celebrates its 25th anniversary with this work of artists from the US, Germany, China, France, Austria, Italy and the UK, it is worth dwelling on how the cultural conditions that birthed Detroit techno – economic neglect and broken industry – were mirrored by the disused bunkers and impromptu parties of post-unification East Berlin, where techno found new, vigorous expression. This record marks the spirit of those 25 years of creativity, a paean to the psychedelic music of Dimitri’s youth. From the signature magnetic soundscapes of Vainqueur to the dark textures of upcoming Beijing producer Shao; from Jon Hassell’s slow epicurean volutes, to the ritual auras of Marcelus and Claudia Anderson’s contributions; from the dub-infused pioneering programming of Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald, to Mønic’s enthralling cadences, it represents some of the old and new names that continually epitomise Tresor’s perennial spirit of ingenuity.

OUT022 operates as a modern take of old school sounds, an hybrid union of all melodic techno sub forms – these remixes keep the mental locked groove material of Dixon’s tracks, adding emotionally irradiating patterns and each producer’s typical paths.
VA – Tales From The Dark Side EP Volume II [KW020]
This is the second episode of our Various Artists serie. The Fallen (a collaboration between Plural (James Johnson) and FBK (Kevin Kennedy)) opens the E.P. with Interference, a fast paced killer hypnotic dance floor friendly dub track: they create a sound that is unique, fluid and extremely danceable. Philippe Petit follows with Exposed, a stripped down, bleepy bass-heavy rhythmic piece of techno. Julixo brings us Own Structure, an aggressive jackin techno track leading to a warm synth line that will leave nobody indifferent. Terrence Dixon closes the E.P. with Odd Numbers, a track that only him can do. Sub bass melodic techno reduced to the max.

Population One – Temporary Insanity EP [OUT018]
Detroit techno veteran Terrence Dixon marks another chapter of his long standing career signing for Italian imprint Out Electronic Recordings as Population One. Terrence Dixon is going to kick off the new year with two techno, retro-feeling original tracks capturing his typical production take. ‘Temporary Insanity’ rolls out the hard-driving, stomping old school side of the artist, featuring sharp melodic sound scapes and incisive percussive elements. Fat claps and bright hats animate the mood involving listeners through a simple, incisive rhythmic power combined with a bass static arpeggio sequence and pointed bleep textures together. ‘Multiple Choice’ differs from the previous cut by featuring a spacey atmospheric, heady synth lines and patterns, taking your mind to a more mysterious, introspective dimension with enchanting pads plus a energetic kick, bass and drum intersection.
FBK – Screaming Her Name [BAR006]
FBK aka Kevin Kennedy is a hardworking man, be it battling computers and machines when producing music or when going out there and getting job done. In either case, one things is certain – theres no messin’ around. He’s also one half of ‘The Fallen’ a duo performing live, showcasing their love for banging darker industrial/wave inspired techno. His pal James Johnson aka Plural, artist with release on legendary Metroplex label last year, provided great remix on this latest EP by Kevin under his FBK moniker for Barba Records. All three original tracks are long building, big room, grooving stompers with a lot of emotions that would fit in various sets pretty much at any time. To keep things entirely ‘D’ footed, the legend, the man of weird, beautiful, unique and reduced techno world – Terrence Dixon rounds things up with his hypnotic re-interpretation of title track.
Terrence Dixon vs Population One – Concrete Environments EP [MODULARZ020]
This time, Dixon returns under his own name and under his most successful alias, Population One, on one split EP for Developer’s Modularz label. “Code Of Conduct” and “Concrete Playground” represent the Population One side, the first tune being a subdued kick filled with cavernous space above it while the latter is more classic Population One thanks to those bizarre melodic twists. Dixon serves up “Touching Bass” and “The Beholder” on the flip, two jazzy techno sculptures that are instantly recognizable as his own.

Population One, the legendary project of the Detroit Techno legend, Terrence Dixon, arrives at 30drop to present his new work and unveils the 30drop guest artists release series under the name of: 30drop ExoPlanets. “Time Will Tell” is a conceptual work that exceeds standards. Under the Population One codename, Detroit citizen Terrence Dixon has realized some of his most vivid, esoteric portals to the Motor City mindset. ‘Theater Of A Confused Mind’ is Dixon’s 2nd album in this mode, twenty years after his debut album, ‘Unknown Black Shapes’, and the ‘Hippnotic Culture’ 2LP, whose ‘Rush Hour’ track inspired the company’s name.

It’s the onset of a brave new era for Ostgut Ton as Panorama Bar 06 signals the label’s decision to halt the manufacturing of CDs for their much loved series of mixes. Due for free download via the Ostgut site on August 11, the Berlin operation have not forgone the vinyl format with all the exclusives gathered by mix curator Ryan Elliott pressed up across a pair of 12″ samplers. And boy did Elliott call in the favours with this first sampler featuring new and unreleased music from Newworldaquarium, Roman Flugel, Terrence Dixon, Tuff City Kids and Borrowed Identity. It is an overall exquisite selection, running from the ambience of NWAQ’s contribution to Flugel’s big room stomper and the sweeter, more playful sounds of Tuff City Kids and Borrowed Identity.

The ‘A Mind of His Own’ EP delivers four magnificent, forward thinking cuts by this experimental techno vanguardist. Expect the terse, elegant minimalism that Dixon is known for. Especially Encircle is another classic Terrence Dixon track.
Terrence Dixon / Fred P – Two Worlds [FS022]
Considering the combined talents of Detroit veteran Terrence Dixon and Black Jazz Consortium man Fred P, you’d expect this split EP for Finale Sessions to be a lesson in warm, soul-flecked depth. Pleasingly, that’s exactly what it delivers. Dixon excels with the sub-sporting alien futurism of “To The Bridge” – the aural equivalent of staring into space while dancing to electronic jazz – and the sumptuous, minor key bliss of the casual deep house jam “Starting Over”. Fred P, meanwhile, delivers two contrasting cuts. There’s some acid-fuelled deep house futurism in the shape of “Circuit”, and a chunk of bongo-laden dancefloor humidity in “The Road”, whose rising strings and sweet melodies are arguably the highlight of a superb EP.
Terrence Dixon / Michael Zucker – Fundamentals [AV001]
If you’re going to launch a label, it’s always wise to start with a bang. That’s exactly what newcomers Audio Visual have done here, recruiting Detroit veteran Terrence Dixon and Chez Damier cohort Michael Zucker (boss of Finale Recordings, no less) for a four-track trip into deep techno and intergalactic house. Dixon goes deep into the groove on the hissing, intoxicating deep techno roller “MTA”, before delivering a touch more melody on the retro-futurist gem “Over The Top”. Zucker, on the other hand, opts for a Jaydee-does-deep house feel to “Foundation (Part 1)”, before setting off towards the heavens with the deliciously deep, smooth “Reflections”.
