Fabio Monesi – Piano Vandals [LIES198]

Italian House Music producer, Fabio Monesi, delivers a smoking 8 track double LP of old school bombs for L.I.E.S. Records. You’d be forgiven for thinking these were produced in the ’80s as all the classic and authentic elements are intact; catchy Yamaha DX basslines, crunchy TR-707 and Juno strings. Eight cuts all primed for the disco tech and nights of pure hedonism. These tracks go right back to the essence, hitting the full spectrum with stripped back classic New York and Chicago House cuts that wouldn’t seem out of place in a BMX or WBLS mix from back in the day. Catchy dx basslines, slammin reverb drenched drum programming, and deep strings are on order for this one.

Boo Williams – Hypnotic Teck [PRTR27]

Chicago house artist Boo Williams returns with his famous signature sound that is full of party but never short on class. His chunky drums are always the foundational element and they come embellished with superb synth work. This new EP on Pariter finds him lean into tech with the loopy acid squelches of ‘303 Effect’ keeping you in suspense, ‘Acid Smoke’ layering soft 303 lines into a punchy deep house cut and then comes the EP highlight, ‘Extension Time’. It’s a zoned-out roller with tender piano chords turning you inwards for deep reflection as the rubbery drums keep things moving.

VA – Viva el sábado: Hits de disco pop peruano (1978-1989) [BR171]

This compilation brings together for the first time diverse Peruvian musical groups that immersed themselves in dance music following the codes brought by the disco revolution. As a phenomenon of a new culture, the global dissemination of disco music had various variations and reformulations. The way it took root in Peru constitutes a fascinating yet underexplored history, despite the numerous recordings that came to light, mainly in the 1980s, running parallel to the boom of Peruvian tropical music, the emergence of a new pop rock scene, and the widespread use of synthesizers and electronic drums. And even though the groups were eclectic and moved across various musical genres, their dance music hits have now become cult pieces.

Sinitsin – False Transmitter EP [EMCV013]

This is the first solo release by Sinitsin, producer, DJ and one part of the duo Formally Unknown. Six tracks of electro with a clippy and dystopian edge come amid the theme of a psyop radio transmitter; a radio tower parasitised by a giant squidlike alien with many grotesque eyes, hijacking our human broadcasts with its own alien agenda. As if to question the popular belief that such a thing has never happened before, each track is hyper-orderly and mega-sequenced, challenging the listener to give over their connotations of humanity with rhythmic imperfection. This is subliminal broadcast electro, bypassing all media and eerily working its way straight to the dome.
