One of the most diverse artists in contemporary electronic music is back on Pinkman, with more than just another 12″. To give him the freedom to experiment and roam between different sounds, textures and influences, Black Merlin will be doing a trilogy of releases for Broken Dreams. The first one – Sformator1, is a ghastly and infuriating techno EP. Dance floor obliteration assured and more is to follow.

Harmonious Thelonious’s ethnomusicologic journeys to the African continent continues with a burning package of 3 rhythmic tracks inspired by American minimalist music and African rhythm patterns. A primordial soup of polyrhythms and dense harmonics hypnotise the body into movement, transporting the origins of dance music to neoteric audiences.

We are not alone. Through the centuries we have created theories, heard stories, made films, and of course, music that is deeply inspired by the idea of the unknown, and the cosmos. We went far and deep into this cosmic void to gather 4 visionairs to help us present a new series on the label. “Visitations – Chapter 1”, touches down through sonic dimensions with Damon Wild, Ben Sims, Steve Bicknell and Tadeo. These artists are amongst the few key figures who established the foundations of Techno music and continue to do so decades later…. Their influences are also undeniable to the aesthetics and sound of “Chronicle” and so we are more then honored to present each one of them on our new series. Their contribution to this compilation is of extraordinary measure, connected both in vision and purpose they provide us with extraterrestrial sounds that challenges the listener both intellectually and emotionally with each track standing strongly on its own while functioning in a cohesive way bringing the vision of Chronicle Records into focus.

Twenty five years after its initial release, and accompanying the re-release of ‘Internal Empire’ Tresor Records is proud to present a new cut and pressing (180gm) of Robert Hood’s essential ‘Master Builder’. This work elevates its maker as master, and remain a cherished moment in the Tresor story, sharing an irrefutable singular magic, sounding as present and indispensable as when first created. To understand this work fully is to stand back and celebrate its impact.

Lhasa is the brainchild of Alain Raes from Siegen, Germany. As a teenager he was inspired by Tubeway Army’s ‘Are Friends Electric’ and Art Of Noise’s ‘Beatbox’. In 1985 he began collecting analog equipment (Prophet-5; Oberheim OB-X; Linn LM-1) as digital synthesizers had started to become more popular. In 1986, New Beat was born in Belgium. Dancers tapped into the darker side of synth pop, and DJs would play 45 rpm records at 33 with the pitch control set to +8. Alain was playing in New Wave bands and had started production work and synth programming for other acts. In 1988 he self-released the debut Lhasa single ‘Acetabularia’ / ‘Acetatechno’, with help from Kris Tremmery on vocals and concept. The record combined the icy melodies of Gary Numan and John Foxx with with the mechanical rhythms of Detroit techno and EBM. Thematically, both tracks revolve around the end of life on Earth, and include samples from ‘Dr. Strangelove’. For this first time reissue, we’ve added 4 bonus tracks rescued from a 1990 recording session DAT tape. These demos show further development of the Lhasa sound with updated instruments (Roland D-20, Yamaha TX16W, Korg 707), faster tempos, and menacing proto-rave energy.

Gregorio Gomez aka Gladkazuka is a mythical figure from Medellin’s underground nightlife, contributing since pre-smartphone ages with energetic live sets to the celebration of life in the convulsive surrounding of the Colombian city. He is back on Cómeme with a full EP in which highly emotive and sensual electro dance fantasies culminate to ‘The Drop’. Gomez’ creations are nocturnal and lush, utopian and melancholic – underground dance pop that would be mainstream in a better world.

Belgrade’s infamous club night delivers again. Yes sophomore release brings us a 6-track EP by label’s founder Stevie Whisper including collabs with Andria, 33.10.3402, Wilson and Mystee. Nofield music with some spoken-word-shoegaze. Belgrade all in.

Rotterdam is miserably cold and rainy. Plagued by gentrification and technological unemployment, the harbor city is slowly turning into a desolate, mechanized metropolis. Secretly tucked away on the outskirts, if you know where to look, there are a few remaining military bunkers. This is where the city’s youth go sporadically to relieve their anger and grief. During these nights, they tirelessly rage to the dystopian sound of Gamma Intel’s slow-burning electro and hypno-acid, before returning to the struggles of their daily lives.

John Beltran, Mark Archer, Future Beat Alliance and Max 404 line up on this third 10 years anniversary 12” for De:tuned. Both John and Mark deliver a timeless, Detroit tradition indebted techno vibe, resulting in 2 dancefloor-friendly tracks. While FBA and max 404 activated their DAT recorder, culminating in unheard crisp yet sensitive cuts. Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja Tune) created all the graphic work. Mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, pressed on 180 gr vinyl and a separate digital version will be available from the usual digital shops.

Dolly Dubs welcomes none other than techno royalty Dan Curtin to the label with four forward thinking cuts! In his signature, energetic idea-rich style, Curtin meanders from vibey electro to uptempo Detroit-esque euphoria, and from innovative techno to broken beat lushness.

Volume Ten of the Mukatsuku label’s Afro Funk & Disco Gems series has two more tracks released for the first time on a 7 inch in their own right. First up is Peter Yamson’s 80’s afro boogie feelgood masterpiece ”Everybody Dance” taken from the Sun On Africa album (mispelt on discogs as Sun Of Africa by the way!) and licenced directly from the artist. Infectious chorus and funk groove with Roy Ayeresque vibes and punchy brass. On the flipside from 1981 we get Get Up Tchamassi from french African group Tala AM which is a funk drenched heavy slap bass boogie mostly instrumental affair with female vocals and great sax playing and catchy rhythm guitar.

Mr. Disc Organization presents another classic Italo, repressed and remastered in limited 500 copies hand-numbered.

Just say ‘Background Disco’ and you’re quickly reminded of the super-groovy sound that pervaded certain sequences of 1970’s Italian films, generally set in discos or clubs with a strong presence of music. Soul, disco, and funk tracks playing in the background, between a dance on the floor and a glass of J&B at the counter, that were supposed not to overcome the dialogues. Two of these jewels, signed by Alessandroni for the sexy comedy Frittata all’italiana (1976, Alfonso Brescia), are proposed in a new edit designed for the dancefloor.
