MRT release number four is a relentlessly loud outcry. Bruno Belluomini delivered three overwhelming techno pieces that dive into rough, violent, dirty waters. The EP is fast and unforgiving, and if one lets it, it will take one down and never let go. The outcome is clear, as it is well known, we all did terrible things to survive.

In interviews, Alessio Natalazia has freely stated his next album would be “very different” and “very intense”. That album, his first for Powell’s Diagonal stable, has finally arrived, and it’s as ballsy, robust and full-throttle as he promised. While it contains nods to the woozy, shoegaze and ambient influenced soundscapes that have been a feature of his previous full-length excursions, these are well hidden behind clandestine fusions of techno and industrial, surging EBM-influenced workouts, post punk-goes-post rock explorations and atmospheric analogue electronics. For those well versed in his back catalogue, Animals makes for arresting listening.
Back to basics with two heavy rhythm edits/tools. A-side features label boss Paul du Lac’s edit of T.O.Y.’s ‘Drum Electronic Sound’, a dark and menacing mid-eighties instrumental italo/electro track, B-side features a simple yet highly effective and relentless minimal drum cut by herr Mick Wills.
Four exceptional tracks, written by Ukrainian producer Vakula, form the Modulation EP — Arma label’s 11th release. Known for his classic and deep house productions, Vakula steps up his techno game and approaches 4×4 zone with insistence and thoroughness his work has been always associated with.
Picking up where he left off on his last long player ”Mirrors and Copulation” we hear an evolution in Haslam’s sound New York’s Gunnar Haslam appears on L.I.E.S. with his third lp for the label titled “Lebesgue Measures”. Picking up where he left off on his last long player “Mirrors and Copulation” we hear an evolution in his sound throughout the nine songs. Still there are the understated yet grooving acid lines next to carefully programmed drums and attention to surrounding detail which creates beautiful and balanced atmospheres. There is a brightness coupled with an underlying sullenness tapping into some sort of mystical and seemingly obscured narrative which moves through the entire record. Deep and immersive stuff to say the least.
Some 31 years after they were first conceived, the cuts that make up Anna Homler and Steve Moshier’s Breadwoman & Other Tales remain thoroughly odd, out-there and entertaining. During the duo’s mid-1980s collaboration, performance artist Homler channeled the spirit of a character she’d created called Breadwoman, delivering bizarre vocals – half sung, half spoken, in some kind of made-up dialect – she referred to as “divine speech”. These were worked into musical pieces by experimental composter Moshier, who utilized cheap drum machines, battered analogue synthesizers, and chamber music players to create hypnotic, otherworldly tracks that remain hugely charming. The story of their creation and performance, told in great detail in the accompanying liner notes, is also fascinating.
The mysterious Knowone imprint presents a collection of dusty, smoked out, dub techno journeys. This is the real deal; for those of you who aren’t familiar, this label is highly recommended for fans of Basic Channel, Echospace or Meanwhile. Enough said, right? This collection comes in a limited edition, handmade wooden box with 5 x 12″s and 2 CDs. It’s hard to pick a highlight from here because all the tracks on here are so damn good. But we do particularly enjoy the glacial and cavernous vibes of Track 3, the hypnotic and dubby deep house on “Track 5” while “Track 8” sounds like Jeff Mills and Stephen Hitchell going on a stoned UFO journey over the Arctic.
“Freundlich II“ is the follow up of Freund der Familie’s “Freundlich” 12“ which was released in 2014 on Telrae. The A-side track “Mash Up” is a deep setup of electronica. Somehow futuristic, alienated and claustrophobic. It could it be the soundtrack for a vintage science fiction movie. Or in other words: pulsating beats imbedded in a sea of sounds, noises and FX that generate life. “Seconds” joins in with ghostly dark sounds that in the course of the track are accompanied by a steady beat.
Dekmantel announce an exciting new project by the impeccable Robert Hood. Over the course of three different EPs and an album, the Detroit legend presents Paradygm Shift. Hood: ‘The idea behind Paradygm Shift is similar to a shift in our focus. We can become so complacent; we are so comfortable with our surroundings, I think this is the time for electronic music to find a new mindset.’
Architectural brings the release number 7 which continues a saga of EPs that are very effective on the dance floor without renouncing to their atmospheric and experimental roots. Presented in an elegant 10” transparent vinyl, its two tracks, 7.1 and 7.2, share the limelight and will both leave the dance floor in ruins.
30drop Records announce the fourth release of its project, under the same name. “History of Gods” is an EP that envelopes us in a rhythmic spiral, taking us straight to the dance floor of the space. Four amazing tracks: three originals and a remix by the historic technomaster Steve Rachmad, as Sterac. The festive opening vibration of “Transversal Sight”, the schizoid cosmic rhythm of “History Of Gods”, from the prism of 30drop or based on the vision of Sterac, and the galactic depth of “Complex Entropy” all define a solid work that takes us to the very depths of sacred geometry.
The second volume of Berlin institution Ostgut Ton’s ten year anniversary release. This particular volume features Berghain resident and label mainstay Marcel Dettmann offering us “Encode II”. Once again this is A grade techno by one of the modern greats. Regular guest at the club and Dial artist Efdemin serves up “Unten Links” a driving and adrenalised groove based around a nice arpeggio, rapid fire woodblocks and evil samples. New addition to the family Kobosil gives us “Saldae” a restrained yet furious stomper with doomy strings and sonar blips.
By Giallo Disco standards, Blood Meridian is something of a curveball. Produced by debutant Ketsueki Sakuru, it cleverly combines the label’s usual synthesizer horror influences with percussion programming that draws inspiration from the throbbing worlds of EBM and New Beat. It’s a blend that works wonderfully well, from the bubbling, rising synthesizer lines and hypnotic rhythms of “The Judge”, to the cacophonous, slo-mo throb of “The Necklace” (all tactile chords and ricocheting drum hits), via the dark pulse of smack-jacker “The Judge”. Arguably best of all, though, is “The Kid”, which sounds like a pitched-down hook-up between John Carpenter and Nitzer Ebb.
