DJ Overdose – 05 Poly 800 Loop [DD001]
The 05 Poly 800 Loop EP was born in the name of the Dutch-Hungarian friendship when DJ Overdose collaborated with the Budapest based record label Dalmata Daniel, and Hungarian acts, S Olbricht & 12z. A wide range of styles release from dark and mid-tempo to hard-hitting electro. Just how we like it from mister Model Man. The EP also features two remixes both of which are complete reworks of the originals. S Olbricht transformed ‘Path To Wrath’ into a dark abstract techno wave that manages to end up light and romantic. Meanwhile 12z, the newest mascot of Nicolas Jaar’s ‘Other People’ label have made an experimental symphony from ‘Be(h)anger’ and this pathos covers the whole essence of this EP. A promising start for the Dalmata Daniel label.

Across the three tracks, Tang’s mastery of his craft is more than evident, displaying a rawness that is often craved but not always achieved these days. The title track’s classic Chicago vibe complemented by the more intense racing “Voltage Player” and the cascading rhythmic hits of “High Strung”. Class always tells, and this Love Passenger 12″ has it by the bucketload.

On the B side ‘Gear Shift’ is another peak time banger while ‘Odd Feel’ brings things back down to earth to complete another solid EP from the Ann Arbor based artist.

In addition to his prolific output as Not Waving, London-dwelling Italian Alessio Natalizia has developed quite an interest in profiling the vast archive of music that surfaced from his motherland in the 1980s. After Strut tapped him to curate the Mutazione compilation back in 2013, Natalizia has taken to square his focus on more specific artists, with this Tapes retrospective following a similar profile of Daniele Ciulini last year. Selected Works 1982 – 1992 spans a decade of recordings from Tapes, aka brotherly pair Giancarlo and Roberto Drago whose style of industrial music absorbed the counter-cultural influence of William Burroughs or Throbbing Gristle, and the sci-fi dystopia of J.G. Ballard and John Foxx. The 21 tracks here will delight anyone with an interest in the obscure annals of European primitive electronics.

Essaie Pas – Demain Est Une Autre Nuit [DFA2481]
Montreal-based electronic duo Essaie Pas is comprised of Marie Davidson and Pierre Guerineau. Both are respected musicians in their own right – Marie having released two acclaimed solo records, with Pierre being best known for production work on underground Canadian musicians such as Dirty Beaches and Femminielli. Essaie pas was born on a hot summer night in 2010, releasing some ultra-limited singles which culminated in their debut LP, Nuit de noce (Teenage Menopause Records) in 2013. The mix of drawling guitars, français mumbles, and minimal electronics caught the ear of DFA Records, who booked the pair to open for Factory Floor on their first North American tour.
VA – Domestic Landscape Vol 2: Underrated Synth Classics 1982-1990 [DOM026L]
Spain’s Domestica are up to their usual antics, and this time it’s the second instalment of their excellent Domestic Landscape series, a varied and much-coveted collection of perfectly contemporary post-punk and coldwave oddities from the 1980s. We’re in love with every track on here, and we’re not exaggerating, this gear is of the highest calibre, and all very much relevant in a DJ nowadays. Think Optimo in the midst of a smokey, mid-morning set in a dark basement, and you’re almost there. Track upon track of solid gold discofied industrial music. Killer; highly recommended.
Danny Alias – Civil Defence [DLM008]
”Civil Defense” was—and still is—a tone poem. It was written in 1984 and first performed in various beatnik-esque coffee houses (with a simple beatbox) in and around Chicago. (I went to college on a full poetry scholarship– believe it or not!)”, as Danny himself says, and we think it’s right. It is considered to be one of the earliest vinyl releases of House Music. LDdlm is honored to bring you this ” long lost piece of the puzzle” in the retelling of Chicago House Music history. The LDdlm edition of the original recordings documents the enduring legacy of this iconic piece of audio history, including the long lost Ron Hardy edit and a reshape of the edit of Ivan Smagghe for the first time on vinyl.
VA – World Of Rubber 2 [RUBBER002]
The Rubber label may proudly hail from the iconic Lowlands area known as Den Haag, yet their sphere of influence clearly stretches much further. First up is secret Amsterdam weapon Robert Bergman, laying down some deviant acid box action in the shape of “Broadcast From Ceres” which dovetails nicely with the more psychedelic overtones of “Masquerading As Stars” from Brussels-based duo Tav Exotic. The master Das Ding opens the B-side with the subaqueous “Divebomb” whilst the unheralded Safe Swim plunges into the deep end of experimentation on “Pictures Of Skies”. It’s left to Diagonal pair Bronze Teeth to wrap up matters with the rip snorting squat party techno of “Easygroove” which was clearly produced with The Hague in mind.

Ahead of him releasing a full length album on MOS in 2016, key label artist Marco Antonio Spaventi is teasing us with a three track Prelude EP. Spaventi hails from Italy, but is based in Amsterdam, and is someone who deals in misty, Chicago referencing house sounds that are loaded up with a real sense of analogue jack.
