D’Marc Cantu – S.E.G. Remixes [AMR38X]

In 2017, D’Marc Cantu released the critically-acclaimed “The Lodge” LP on Altered Moods, which was the first chapter in a two-part story. The second part is now incoming, in the form of a remix EP of one of the most popular cuts on the album, “S. E. G.” The new record contains both the original track and three remixes created by Larry Heard, Malcolm Moore and Chicago Skyway.

D’Marc Cantu – The Lodge [AMR038L]

After a quiet 2016 which saw the label release only a single EP, Altered Moods Recordings launches the first in a steady stream of releases for 2017. With “The Lodge”, AMR has joined forces with techno and jakbeat wunderkind D’Marc Cantu. On this double-12, he shows us and the world his more melodic, deeper side, while still maintaining a sense of urgency and a fingerhold on the jakbeat throughout.

Mick Welch – Octaves Of Energy [AMR034E]

Altered Moods Recordings releases its next vinyl EP “Octaves of Energy”. This three-tracker by Mick Welch is a smooth, sultry adventure into the core ethos of AMR music. The “Octaves of Energy” release represents his latest foray into the deepness. “Conscious Field” kicks things off with a tambourine- and high-hat infused beat with rich, dark leads burbling up throughout, interrupted now and then by a wistful bridge with an echoing voice telling you not to be afraid. “Mind Force” is another laid back jam, with a bright, crisp cowbell intertwine with an accouterment of lush pads and silky leads. The final track on the flip side, “Octave 50,” is the deepest cut of the three and also the easiest to work the dance floor with. With its sinewy, filtered pad and bubbly bass line combined with warm, warbling leads, it fits both in the studio and at the club.

VA – Rotate Freely [AMR035R]

Californian label Altered Moods Recordings returns in triumphant fashion with one more split 12″. Inspired by the Freerotation festival, label boss Malcolm Moore has called on artists who have either played or attended the cultish Welsh gathering for this Rotate Freely 12″. Along with Moore, Natan H, Chicago Skyway and Mick Welch all contribute.

John Heckle / Malcolm Moore – The Emerald Cities Project [AMR028E]

Altered Moods Recordings’ 27th release features a barnstormer of a track by John Heckle. Its big, fat, analog bassline combined with take-charge leads and rising melodies is a floor-filler. “Emerald 66” is six minutes of dancing bliss with its in-your-face snares, claps, and tambourines. Malcolm Moore works the flip side with “Way Of The City”, an affair that starts out muted but quickly expands into a drum-filled frenzy. A break in the action gives dancers a moment to catch their breath before the acid onslaught continues in earnest in the second half.

VA – Love’s All Right [AMR026R]

Malcolm Moore’s Altered Moods imprint comes through with the self styled “deep as fuq” Loves All Right EP featuring contributions from Dubbyman, Amir Alexander and Mr Done! The well respected Dubbyman marks his debut production on Altered Moods with the sublime “Love’s All Right”- a track naturally brimming with his signature jazzy touches and lolloping beat down groove. It’s complemented by an altogether housier remix from Above Smoke who does a superb job in cloaking elements of Dubbyman’s original production in a hazy sheen deep beneath an infinitely rise rasp of a groove. Turn over and Mr Done! Aka Mr Moore gently rolls out a melange of widescreen chords and shimmering pads over the ever rippling rhythmic snap of drums that drives “Diamond” forward, whilst Amir Alexander wins the prize for the most apt title on “Woozy!” a tightly wound driving house track whose undulating textures will cause travel sickness.
