Roger 23 – Future State [BAUD006]

Layered rhythms force these tracks forward to an unspoken conclusion, although there cannot be any doubt about the tracks’ intentions! Roger 23 has a reputation for producing music that combines great intuition with a roughness that is equally as challenging as it is soothing. ‘Future State’ is no exception to this rule. Bursts of melody and atmosphere draw the attention to relentless, yet not straight rhythmic patterns and vice versa. These five tracks are a remorseless leap into what dance music can be. Made with optimism and an open mind, they explore darker territories in an inviting and open-ended way. The last track on this EP being a short, blissful Ambient piece that abstractly channels the energy of the other tracks serves as one last lap on the rings of Saturn. ‘Future State’ plays with meaning, intention and focus and in the process refocuses itself time and again. It is an extremely versatile exploration that is as engaging and believing as can be.

Dario Zenker – 2029 EP [BAUD005]

The fifth release on Baud music is the 2029 EP by Dario Zenker. Distorted dub imitations rooted in a rhythmic foundation, supplemented with penetrating driving shakes, shape the character of the first track “The Chief”. A floating, thumping bass line and claps with elegant dreamy strings characterize the second track “Least one” on the A side. The flip side welcomes us with “Sherhood” with his straight solid beat and a dominant, catchy hook. “Alen” combines Dubtechno and Dupstep into free-floating wave elements and obscures the perception of the 4/4 time, which transfers the listener into a state of suspense.

Mysterious shadows, sensual formations and intransparent depths rewrite the fourth baud release of Ryo Murakami from Tokyo. The A-side is launched by the title track “Underworld”, which is evident in an appealing soundscape by classical and contemporary dub elements. Also on the front side is the playful “Night dew”. Swirled iridescent synths attend to the atmospheric and unexplored morning dew.“Closer” opens the B-side with a gentle, bubbling acidline that rounds off the background with jacking swinging moments,Like an enchanted, dark veil “Fog” appears on the back side, by building up strings into unsearchable depths.

Don Williams – Dynamic Rain [BAUD003]

DON WILLIAMS - Dynamic Rain image

Don Williams provides two deep and tricky Detroit jackers for Baud. ‘Dynamic Rain’ is lead by future-tribal tom patterns and sparse, abstract synthlines. The idiosyncratic ‘Glis Groove’ on the flip reminds of Redshape (who coincidentally mastered this 12″) with deep shuffling arrangement tinged with a sci-fi house vibe. Lovely heavy card sleeve and top class cut & mastering job.
