Cabaret Voltaire – But What Time Is It Really? [MEME26CD10]

Marking 50 years since the live launch of one of Britain’s most influential electronic bands (at the Sheffield Students Union Refectory on 13 May 1975), Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson reactivated the Cabaret Voltaire name for an exclusive live performance at the Forge Warehouse, Sheffield. A 4 date tour of the UK followed in November 2025. They were joined by Eric Random and Oliver Harrap.
“But What Time Is It Really?” was recorded on the Oct-Nov 2025 UK Tour and perfectly captures the mood of the UK dates. Fans travelled across the world to see the band present new arrangements of classic Cabs tracks such as ‘Sensoria’, ‘Crackdown’, ‘Do Right’ and ‘Spies in the Wires’ alongside ‘Tinsley Viaduct’, a contemporary piece of musique concrète composed by Chris Watson.

Stephen Mallinder: Vocals, bass, keyboards, samples
Chris Watson: organ, modular synths, samples, field recordings
Eric Random: Keyboards, guitar
Oliver Harrap: Electronic percussion

In memory of Richard H. Kirk.

VA – Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX [Eskimo]

Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX is the second compilation for Eskimo Recordings compiled and curated by Berlin-based Musician and DJ Luca Venezia, aka Curses, to explore the darker side of club music. Spread across 3CDs and three 2LPs Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX features a mammoth 49 tracks that join the dots between early industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle, EBM legends like Nitzer Ebb and the post-punk experiments of people like Malcolm McLaren and Big Audio Dynamite with some of the most exciting artists around today, such as Boy Harsher, Nuovo Testamento and Years of Denial. Where the first Next Wave Acid Punx compilation was a personal journey for Luca, a lockdown inspired exploration of his record collection to find the thread that ran through the music that had soundtracked much of his life, DEUX is a celebration of that music let loose on the world, the thrill of music performed live, the smoke and strobe filled clubs you’ll hear it in and the artists you’ll find on those stages.

VA – Berlin Atonal Vol. 3 [ATONAL001]

Berlin Atonal is proud to pick up on a tradition begun in 1984 with the publication of two volumes of live recordings from the 1983 edition of the festival. Those records bore witness to the most inventive, adventurous sounds of the festival. Berlin Atonal Vol. 3 carries this custom forward three decades with selections from four of the standout performances of Berlin Atonal 2014. Of course Cabaret Voltaires lauded and historical first show in over 20 years is featured, Richard H Kirk’s no-nostalgia and machinery driven set firmly putting the Cabaret Voltaire project in a future-facing direction. Miles Whittaker’s surprising and muscular live performance also contributes a cut, as does festival favourite Fis with his characteristically lumpy, textural soundscapes. Finally, two selections from Abdulla Rashims memorable session gesture toward a possible future for synthesised music.

JACKSON, Trevor/VARIOUS - Metal Dance: Industrial/Post Punk/EBM: Classics & Rarities 80-88

The latest Strut Records release shines more light on the clanking, far-sighted world of the 1980s’ most revolutionary genres – namely industrial, post-punk and EBM. This time Trevor Jackson is at the helm. His two-disc selection touches on many different strands, from bleak synthesizer jams and crunchy punk-funk to twisted industrial disco, mutant electrofunk and almighty percussive workouts.
