JuJu & Jordash – Techno Primitivism LP [DKMNTL011]

Full album from the astonishingly talented JuJu & Jordash. This time crossing their more psych side with their proto-everything electronics. Continuing their distinctive synthesis of spaced-out jazz un-standards, murky dub and hypnotic electronics, Juju & Jordash exploit the triple vinyl format to launch a mission bound for the innermost depths of their sound. It’s obvious the writing and production have reached a new level in their exciting evolution. Now it’s time for the music to reach an audience beyond just techno and house.

VA – Dekmantel Anniversary Series Part 5 [DKMNTLAS5.5]

Final 12″ in the series with the mighty Redshape killing it one side and Fudge Fingers ending it all on a very positive note. Redshape’s  Flexx is continuing that tradition of quality outputs, being a mid-tempo house-fused techno jam for club heads alike, while Fudge Fingas’ Light My Life is a some subtle yet powerful string-inflected downtempo house track.

Skudge / San Proper – Dekmantel Anniversary Series Part 4 [DKMNTLAS5.4]

SKUDGE/SAN PROPER - Dekmantel Anniversary Series Part 4 (Front Cover)

Dekmantel’s 5th Anniversary Series has so far been as finely curated and presented as you’d expect from the Dutch label, and this penultimate entry is no different with Skudge and San Proper introducing some dark techno business to proceedings. Swedish duo Skudge are on fine form with “Silent Running” delivering one of their subtly melodic productions that revolves grainily around one repeated and tweaked refrain. Given San Proper’s dedication to the label (he sports a Dekmantel tattoo after all) it’s little surprise the hirsute Amsterdam icon was asked to contribute and “Rattle (Station 2 Station)” is one of the best tracks on the series so far. A grinding, industrial beat mixes with dense vocals, synths, speech samples and plenty more. The end result is a perfect example of the kind of steamy, sweaty haze of late night damage that Mr Proper has made his own.

Vedomir – Vedomir [DKMNTL009]

Dekmantel presents the return of Vedomir to their imprint, with nothing less than a full length album this time. The Ukraine-based producer shows he’s getting more mature with every release, delivering a comprehensive artist album that crosses over genres easily. Ranging from downtempo, almost jazz-like slowburners to haunting Chicago house with a true analog feel, and from dark electro stuff, to the beautiful ambient soundscape: this record is a piece of stunning musical versatility.

Juju & Jordash / Morphosis – Dekmantel Anniversary Series Part 1 [DKMNTLAS5.1]

Amsterdam enclave Dekmantel have elected to toast the five year milestone in the best way possible with a series of highly collectable twelve inches featuring tracks from artists who have contributed in that period – be it performing at their killer parties or releasing music on the label. The series gets off to a veritable flyer with productions from Morphosis and Juju & Jordash either side of this wonderfully decorated twelve inch. The latter honorary Amsterdammers open proceedings with a Cosmic Dub update of the “African Flower” jam that featured on their 08 Aesthetic Audio split with Keith Worthy which naturally smoothes out the percussive klack of the original for a more sumptuous ride. It is matched by the jittering analogue behemoth that is Morphosis’ “Pulse” with skin crawling organs lifted from the Hammer school of horror excellently riding the scattergun percussive rhythms of an increasingly rippling and dusty beatdown ride.
