T Mack – Mill Due (The Galactic Funk DJ) [ CM001]

Slamming remastered reissue of über-rare Detroit electro gold ‘Mill-Due’ by T.Mack on tiny label Megas. Incredibly hard to come by, this underground 12” from 1985 oozes funk, soul, boogie and delicious groove with a huge slice of time-defying electro chic. With a super-squelchy analogue bassline, sexy guitar licks and killer beats, it is topped off with Detroit style space-age deep vocals which conjure images of early Juan Atkins productions – this record is a collector’s wet dream! An on-air favourite of The Electrifying Mojo, this is Motorcity electro at its very peak. Essential for fans of electro and techno alike! Do not miss out on this true holy grail of Detroit electro funk.
Intergalactic Gary – Pains Of Passion Mix [RDR004]

More from the Roller Disco reissue series, as Intergalactic Gary’s tongue-in-cheek tribute to the joys of camp ’80s synthesizer music gets a deserved repress. For the uninitiated, Intergalactic Gary is a Hague-based synth fetishist and notorist Italo digger. Here, he showcases a tiny fraction of his unrivalled collection of (largely European) synth-pop and disco oddities, mixing up 19 tracks that will be new to all but the most dusty-fingered of collectors.

C.O.M.B.I. – S & T [COMBI010]

Emanating from Japan, and discovered by Eric Duncan (of RUB ‘N TUG fame). These Re-edit masterclasses would never have gotten outside of their native market. Luckily a helping hand from one of NYC’s most hyped party throwers has guaranteed a wider audience.! This release has another glorious duo of obscure but super high quality dancefloor friendly edits.
VA – Epic Disco Vol. 2 [ROLLER008]

Prins Thomas, Mark E, Bulgari and Ultra City all feature on Epic Disco Vol 2, the long overdue return to the twelve inch game from the Rollerboys imprint. Label supremos Ultra City aka Elias & Yourhighness open proceedings in excellent fashion with the resplendent “Delta” a richly rewarding exercise in effervescent Chicago house based around instantly uplifting piano tones and loose cascading Roland 707 patterns – instant dancefloor uplift guaranteed on this one. Merc boss Mark E follows with the deeper sounds of “Walk With Me” utilising a familiar vocal refrain amidst a musical arrangement that pairs subtle elements such as heart warming chords with the more intense synths. Flip over and Prins Thomas introduces a lesson in the art of infinite build via the primal, stripped down 303 jam “Stockholm Express” which has us rather excited for his forthcoming new album. Rollerboys regular Bulgari eases down the tempo to finish with a echo laden electro boogie future classic in the shape of “I Was On”.
Sir Leon Greg – Warehouse Classics #1 [WAR001]

Warehouse Classics Vol.1 holds 4 killer tracks going from obscure disco to new wave, first popularized at the Music Box and rarely heard anywhere else. Sir Leon Greg (another incarnation of Perseus Traxx) jams out then reinforces some edits of forgotten classics with a raw & personal analogue treatment for a devastating full effect on the dance floor, that is a far cry from the proliferation of over-produced squeaky-clean software edits. These are basic, raw ideas thrown down quickly and capturing the energy on 1/4” tape before moving on to the next set of sounds. Musically, it’s as delightfully funky and uncomplicated as you’d expect, a mesh of disco tracks and heavy, effect laden, machine-funk.
DJ QU – Reiterate Vol. 1 [RMG001]

Out from the skies arrives Reiterate Music Group, offering 4 older cuts with new interpretations. A side is on the Afro percussive tip, B is more on the disco funk side w/edits by DJ Qu.

Claws For? – Profumo [DUB001]

Profumo is the first release in the new Don’t Be Afraid 10″ series entitled DBA DUBS. This series is about teaming a London house dub with a ‘techno-related’ dancefloor remix. The first release comes from Claws For? ,with a remix from Gosub. Hearing is believing as far as the original goes, a soulful and expressive analogue house cut that will work in both day time and night time sets this summer. Gosub’s remix is a sleazy, greasy Miami electronic funk work out which sweats and oozes authentic East Coast vibe.
Kathy Diamond & Mastercris – Right There [ENDLESSFLIGHT047]

New material from one Kathy Diamond who’s teamed up with Mastercris for a beat down, piano heavy, hands in the air sort of track featuring ms Diamond’s signature voice. On the flipside, Amsterdam bods Juju & Jordash deliver a solid detroit flavoured mix for the more demanding stages of the night.
Asso – Do It Again [369.008]

Official release of the previously unreleased album of the famous 12” classic. ASSO the alter ego of italian producer Victorio Pezzolla is something like a Italo Disco one hit wonder. The Do it Again / Don’t Stop 12” has original been released in 1983 and is meanwhile one of the most sought after 12” releases from Italy. Unfortunately the related album hasen’t been brought to the market back in the 80’s. Victorio Pezzolla and Private Records rediscovered the original analog master tape some months ago in an archive of an Italian publisher. The absurdity that the music has never been commercially released leads to the fact that this masterpiece, a complete unreleased original 80’s album, will be brought to you fresh and unspent in 2012. Italo Disco, Space Funk and balearic grooves are combining to an unique Italo Disco release.
Grossstadtlichter – Grossstadtlichter (Kinky Lovers Edit) [CRJAK014]

“Ok so here’s the last installment in the Creme JAK series. We feel there’s not much to add to this concept and over the past few years this kinda musick has found the foothold it lacked when we started this lil’ enterprise in the heydayz of beige vanilla Minimal. In any case it seems fitting to go full circle and draw the curtains with an epic disco anthem that might not be JAK perse, but at least coulda woulda shoulda been caned back in the dizzies in all the places that mattered ese! You see, House is a feeling and blablabla.. So here’s a final one up your purist backsides as this mystery strap-on crew cuts and tape edits its way through a molten bucket of Swiss cheese and ends up with a dead hooker in the trunk in the process.”
VA – Danger Electrified Tracks [LSD008]

After the club tropicana sounds of Bang the bomb its time to roll the sleeves up and get down to the business end of this trip. Touching down on planet Subturanus in search of the real underground shit Light sound dark do not disappoint digging deep into its core and excavating strange alien like sonics which had previously been lying dormant. Onyx ”Robot world” kicks things and what a start! hailing from Boston Massachusetts this 1982 cassette only release is almost completely unknown to all but a few. So ahead of its time with its production and ”Robots are taking over the world” drone vocal this is an absolute must for people who are fascinated with the history of house music and is surely worthy as a missing piece on the ever expanding jigsaw puzzle.
Symmetry – Themes For An Imaginary Film [IDIB037CD]

Three years in the making, Symmetry – the project that began as a conceptual tangent between Glass Candy, Chromatics, Mirage, & Desire’s more abstract sides – finally sees its release this month. “Themes For An Imaginary Film” is two hours of claustrophobic cinematic bliss compiled for Painters, Writers, Photographers, Designers, Cruisers, Night Walkers, & Dreamers. Adrenaline drips thick like syrup across a horizon where memories become blurred scenes behind the windshield & yesterday’s faces fade as the road strobes to aggressive rhythms. Romantic melodies linger in the rearview mirror as chimera bells saturate the electric fog that’s slowly rolling in. Over the span of thirty-seven tracks, Symmetry embraces the elegance of European noir, cut with a lean & violent American razor. Directly in your face & breathing down your neck one minute, & escaping beyond the night sky the next. The attention given to color & detail on these recordings is more graphic than musical. More visual than aural. With no flashy virtuosity to clutter the mood, the album’s pulse thrives on the empty pockets of space left in the wake of throbbing bass & the faint flicker of electro candlelight. Minimal, strict, & always in motion, there’s an oppressive overtone throughout the record that winds itself tight as a clock. Johnny Jewel & Nat Walker (Chromatics & Desire) give us propulsive moments that are more rhythm based than Pop, & less reliant on a lyrical presence than their other projects. We hear elements through the veil & color of analog synthesizers & rhythm machines from the early 1970s, resulting in the suspenseful & patient territory pioneered by the hands of John Carpenter, Claudio Simonetti, Wendy Carlos, Klaus Schulze, & Krzysztof Komeda. Symmetry is not Pop. Stripped to its most primitive & visceral core, this is music written for picture. Your life is the film & this is the soundtrack.
Intergalactic Gary – Sweatbox Mix
VA – Jerome Derradji Presents – 122 BPM – The Birth Of House Music [STILLMDCD006]

Stunning triple disc compilation and includes numerous unreleased tracks and beyond hard to find house tracks made in Chicago in the early to late Eighties from the catalogues of Mitchbal Records and Chicago Connection Records. 3CD boxset includes an exclusive mix by Jerome Derradji, and a 28 page booklet documenting the story of Mitchbal and Chicago Connection Records.
For anyone with an interest in the history of house music, this excellent compilation from Jerome Derradji’s Still Music imprint should be essential listening. It focuses on the output of two long forgotten Chicago labels, Mitchbal and Chicago Connection Records, during the early to mid 1980s, when electro, new wave and boogie were morphing into house. As such, 122 BPM offers a mix of rare, largely overlooked cuts that bristle with analogue dancefloor intent. There’s proto-jack in the shape of Jeanette Thomas’s “Shake Your Body” and Z Factor’s “I Am The DJ”, dubbed-out Chi-town proto house from Mitchbal and Larry Williams, and some terrific bodypoppin’ electro from McGhee.

DMX Krew – Decaying World EP [TONES002]

London rave collective come record label Wavey Tones do it right with their second release, securing four tracks from Rephlex regular DMX Krew. Operating under all manner of aliases, the UK artists is renowned for delivering consistently varied sounds and the Decaying World 12″ confirms that wide ranging reputation. Lead track “Mustard Parasol” is a half-stepping tune which slip neatly between the modern UK Bass movement and the synth explorations of Legowelt, whilst the title track starts off with a powerful electro-tinged bassline but quickly transforms into a bumpy drum machine workout filled with superlative effects and yet more mutated sonics. Over on the B-side, “Flat Rate” enters the acid kingdom and pushes forward with sharp snares and dreamy voices, whilst “Three Days Of Entropy” slams back to the 80’s for an inspired synth trip with neat bursts of punchy percussion and far-out, tweeting melodies.
