Surface emerges from the murky depths with a new project / sub-division ‘Beneath the Surface’; a series of releases forthcoming sporadically over the next year or so, delving quite literally beneath the surface and showcasing some of the finest and deepest shades that techno and house has to offer with a select line up of old friends and some very special new faces….The first instalment ‘Journeys To The Deep Vol.1′ sees label head honcho Nick Dunton.

This is the debut release of Brendon Moeller on Ann Aimee label. Dub, techno, jazz, afrobeat and psychedelia are inspirations that appear in most of his music. Whether it be serious dancefloor bizniz, or dubbed out bass-scapes, his music always possesses a quality and signature that have helped him become the prolific force he is today.

Mike Dehnert offers three bouncing chunks of dub techno for Echocord’s colour series. ‘Treillis’ sets off to a laidback momentum with chrning dub bass joined by spooky metallic noises. ‘Pompage’ is more typical Dehnert, getting the blood going with pumping bass and agile, offset syncopations. ‘Thermique’ returns to the ghoulish dub techno style with a palette of stray noises and stabs calcified around his heaving bassline and efficient percussion.

Onmutu Mechaniks is an alter ego of the prolific Arne Weinberg for Echocord. To date it’s given us two 12″s of loners techno soul, a vibe he expands and asserts with ‘Nocturne’. From the dub stasis of ‘Catatonic’ he guides us on an inward trajectory with the heavy breathing shuffle of ‘Aspiring To Aspire’ and continues an internal spiral with the soundtracky space of ‘Lupos Moon’, recalling the bleakness of Demdike Stare’s spare grooves. Down the line and the sleep-techno of ‘Neutrino’ only keeps consciousness because of its metronomic woodblock, before ‘When You Return’ inhabits the blue zones of Signer or Fluxion and ‘Across The Styx’ pulls the rhythmic anchor to drift in placid dub lagoon. With ‘Nocturne’ Arne proves he knows how to sooth and salve heads with elegance and substance, resulting in a sumptuous listen from start to finish.

The Mojuba sublabel brings you two new tunes from the vaults of Marco Fürstenberg. These two tracks of pure dub techno magic build a seamless connection to his previous releases Surphased ep and Repentance ep and capture the special sound and feel of a true Fürstenberg track how it can only be done for this label!

Dub techno, evolving pads, reverbs, space and delays with experimental, darker, minimal tracks with lots of sfx, samples from the real world and live instruments. Comes with a remix from Delta Funktionen.

“Drawing Clouds” focuses on the raw techno aspect of Andrés Zacco’s production. Never forgetting the more dubby textures and winding electrics so dear to the Argentine master of wizardry, he creates yet another enthralling landscape right at the first seconds of the title track. As the maelstrom wraps around your mind, the unbeatable rhythms and fast-pace of the flip “Space Mountain” wallop your body for a tremendous trek.

Havantepe release a 12 with deep dubby techno sounds with layers of sounscapes, shuffling rhythms, warm chords & build-up tension that will work perfectly on late night club floors. Luke Hess debut in Pong musiq, “Caterpillar” Rmx further explores deep Detroit dance music through field recordings, live percussion sessions, analog experimentation, and dark melodies.

Second release on the Pattern Repeat Label is another collaboration between Kenneth Christiansen, Echocord label boss and Resoe. According to the label this is the sound of “modern” Berlin Techno, Dubstep and Dub-Techno all put together in the blender. Two tracks of dusty, underground techno that will appeal to fans of the Berghain sound – gritty to the bone and dubby in a indirect sort of way.

New record label out of Detroit managed by Luke Hess. Luke has decided to take his style of Deep Detroit Techno and root it firmly in the city that inspires his sound. DeepLabs is a label created for the deeper, soulful, and experimental side of electronic music, with a clear vision of the DJ and the dance-floor.

Fear Of Flying ploughs a furrow through the hazier realms of dance music, the ethos more focused on the ‘after party’ than the main dance floor & the emphasis being on dubby beats and deep musical treats in all their various forms.
