After a year of collaborative releases, Kyle Hall, under the alias KMFH, has produced a debut album; a fusion of original work, sample tracks, and raw edits. The Boat Party album artwork pokes fun at European summer boat parties and juxtaposes the destitute state of Detroit and its recent proneness to discarded luxury in financial crises. Mainly, the inability to leave and the sometimes pleasant isolation of a boat party is what the album exudes. The listener has a certain commitment to the material which definitely has its place on the dance floor. You can find tracks that have soulful, funky, and organic feels, while others have a more abstract, mechanical, and robotic sentiments. The Boat Party was carefully constructed which makes the album a cohesive mix of soulful etherealness and roughly raw sounds; KMFH’s cueing into the true aspects of Detroit.

The sounds exhibited across each track are unique creations that combine brightly coloured synths, swirling pads and non-standard beats into captivating and kaleidoscopic soundscapes that constantly evolve from start to finish. Son Of Sound is the current project of Henry Maldonado, a NYC house music legend. You can definitely hear hints and influences of his old work in these songs, but Maldonado adds layers of modern style and production values to keep it sounding fresh and not “retro” or played out. Northern Irish garage/house duo South West Seven (Ric McClelland and Sean Grieve) make a guest appearance for NYC’s On The Prowl, with remixes by Giorgio Luceri and Club Silencio. “If You Want” gets things moving with a deep house style layered with a big upfront bassline and super lush pads that are straight outta Detroit! Built to please big rooms in the early morning. A2 has Club Silencio showing his remix finesse by adding some organ key stabs in the “Gypsey Women” territory. Proper early 90’s house vibes but still maintaining a modern edge. “Move Back” shifts the mood toward a more disco feel with balaeric style guitars and laid back and groovey bassline. On the remix Luceri adds his music touch while keeping things driving with steady snare fills and old school drums.
This emotional two-track 12”on New Jersey Records showcases Chris Burns’ varied influences and strong songwriting abilities. I.Y.E., co-written and sung by Denise Henderson, is a peak-hour track that draws upon Burns’ passion for powerful, NY-inspired vocal house. Burns has created a tough, grooving backdrop that highlights Henderson’s incredible ability to juxtapose subdued and expressive vocal deliveries. “E-Mo Systems” takes a more melancholic approac. Swollen bass textures and ambient melodies are punctuated by a minor key chord progression that resolves into a sublime climax.
Alex Smith aka Omar-S with his new album on FXHE. The fourteen tracks on this disc demonstrate Smith’s studio prowess and his dynamic range as a producer – from uplifting house to raw techno beats and acid.
Three chairs with a new releases… 4 hot tracks of which the opener Demigods (a1) is a sick acid injected Detroit house cut in a style fusion of Marcellus Pittmann and Theo Parris. 6 mile is another stunner on this Ep wih a nice rolling beat and an upbeat feel.
Clone Royal Oak with a release by Headless Ghost, a production alias of Ripperton delivering three shit hot tracks. Asking what the difference is between Ripperton and his Headless Ghost production he said ””while the headless ghost is doing stuff intuitive, i see what you did there”. Not sure if we completely understand, but the intuitive thing makes sense while listening to the tracks. Killer 3 track ep with a some sharp edged house music.
Next Paragram release is the debut EP from the Romanian based Marcman. Marcman’s tracks are always a mixture between dancefloor moovers including groovy rhythms and big baselines. ‘Dici’ combines a super bass pumping tool that make you move even in in the most remote corner of the club, while ‘Arficeva’ and ‘Rigid’ gives priority to the hypnotic effect of the groove combined with mighty dub chords.

Jupiter Jazz dropping their inaugural EP ‘Booty Jazz’ are sucking the dancefloor into their flaming orbit and leaving all inhabitants senses back on earth. ‘Shake It Mama’ launches the booty theme with a vortex of dirty, dark 80s electro, growling low-end and Cameo style vocoder while a smoother groovier deeper vibe shimmers through ‘Technology’ on the b-side. Taking a weirder turn ‘Good Girl’ seals the package with a sleazy male vocal line, tight drums and hypnotic pads. So let Jupiter Jazz drag you into the black hole of ‘Booty Jazz’ for some intergalactic misbehavior.
Narrative, breathing, basement house with subtle morphing chords, heavy tape hiss, and an undeniable character that has been lost in much dance music. Again this record will be equally satisfying for home listening or calculated club play. Record comes complete with beautiful full color cardboard cover of some outerspace shit for you to zone out to while listening to the record, a bonus to say the least.
