VA – Finale Underground Vol.2 – Detroit Visionaries [FU002]

For those turned on by the far-sighted, sci-fi inspired sounds of Detroit deep house and techno, this EP from Michael Zucker’s Finale Underground imprint (an offshoot of his Finale Sessions label) should be an essential purchase. With the likes of Patrice Scott, Keith Worthy and Luke Hess involved, you’d expect the quality threshold to be high. It is, of course, resulting in a quartet of killer tracks. Worthy’s hypnotic techno jam “Tolox” is a definite highlight, though it pales in comparison to the analogue futurism of Luke Hess’s brilliant “Cyclops”. Best of all, though, is Scott’s “Journey Into The Unknown”, which bobs, weaves, bubbles and spits to the rush-inducing deep house sound of undulating synthesizer melodies and classic, Transmat-style Motor City rhythms.

Keith Worthy – The Price of Non-Conformance [AES019]

Long established Detroit talent Keith Worthy traverses a fine line between deep, bumpy house and raw techno on his debut double album, The Price of Non Conformance. A conceptual project that takes you on a virtual walk through the streets of Detroit. From a musical standpoint, the sound and feel of T.P.O.N.C. aligns with Worthy’s own DNA, a complex blend of house and techno, and all while incorporating a degree of fantasy into every composition.

The ever-loving team at Still Music present yet another unmissable selection of East side beats, this time shifting focus from Chicago to Detroit to shine the light on some of the less celebrated talents operating in the city. There is boundless quality at every turn here, from the jazzed out tones of Craig Huckaby to the raw chemistry of Marcellus Pittman. Terrence Dixon does an excellent demonstration of wormhole techno with “The Fall Guy (Part 1)”, and DJ 3000 brings a demonic brand of slow-chugging house to the table. Alex Israel also reminds everyone that he truly is one of the most slept-on gems the Motor City has to offer, so get busy and connect with this utterly essential selection.

Joe Drive / Keith Worthy – The Sound Oasis [AES017]

The 17th installment from Aesthetic Audio brings together Italian bred producer Joe Drive and Detroit’s own Keith Worthy for a two-man journey to fathom the depths of The Sound Oasis. On this journey, the soundtrack articulates Joe Drive’s lush and extremely deep textures, and Worthy compliments the project by paying tribute Joe Drive’s original with a stripped down, raw and bumpy remix of Amnios.

In anticipation of his forth-coming solo album, Aesthetic Audio’s Keith Worthy fathoms the worlds between the deep house and techno genres on his newest release ‘Lamar’. This double-sided banger methodically blurs raw abstract intensions with melodic chord play and the result is a frenzy of purpose & deep bliss.

Keith Worthy – Moments In Rhythm Volume 3 [AES014]

Moments in Rhythm vol 3. was inspired by an in-depth conversation that questioned the level of importance that today’s society does or does not value it’s critical art forms, most specifically music … the universal language, as a means of free expression. From this passionate discussion spawned the composition of an opened ended letter, written in 4/4 format that captures and shares the passion of this conversation, and ultimately asks some questions such as … Is It In You?
