Nuron / As One – La Source [ASGDE031]

Nuron, the seminal and elusive producer in the realm of melodic and emotive techno, is back! Almost 25 years after his output on Likemind Records, Nuron finally re-appears on the Belgian De:tuned label with long-awaited new work that sounds every bit unique and fresh as back in the day. “La Source” opens with Nuron’s take on lush Detroit fused techno, a masterclass of mixing belly-fluttering synth arrangements with outstanding drum programming. Turn the record over for two exclusive Nuron remixes of As One (Kirk Degiorgio) tracks from the recent “Communion” album on De:tuned, resembling Artificial Intelligence vibes of the highest order.

Mukatsuku presents Kirk Degiorgio / As One / Butti 49 – Jazz Classics Volume 4 [MUKAT056]

In the late 1990’s label manager Nik Weston was working for Island Records and in particular the label imprint Island Blue set up by Ross Allen. It was here that he first heard the timeless jazz version masterpiece of Amalia from Kirk Degiorgio’s As One. The track featured on a promo CD but never made it to a commercial release for Island Blue and was later featured on the full length album release for San Francisco label Ubiquity Records a few years later in 2001. ‘Amalia’ is a sultry jazz classic featuring gorgeous keys from Jamie Odell aka Jimpster. As relevant today as it ever was when initially made and here presented as a single in it’s own right for the very first time. On the flipside another track that never made it to single in this version was the unique jazzual ‘Spiritual Rotations’ by Butti 49 from Norway. Nik had later worked with Butti 49 whilst working for Exceptional Records for the Habit album in 2004 but ‘Spiritual Rotations’ itself initially featured as an exclusively album only track for Future Sounds Of Jazz Volume 8 in 2001 for German label Compost.

John Beltran – Israel [SR007]

John Beltran returns on Soul Research with his melodic tunes. Techno which emanates emotions and breathes Detroit in and out in rhythmical arches. Israel is a journey to faraway lands, with both hypnotic and melodic tunes while Achva resounds ambient and techno filled with pathos. The long awaited Israel remix by historical Brit Kirk Degiorgio is a full re-interpretation of rhythm and movement that only the great can create.

Four peak-timers incl. a special club edit of the popular ‘Rawhide’ track, and Degiorgio’s ‘Dread’ appears on vinyl for the first time after it’s inclusion on Sims’ Fabric Mix CD. Funky and uncompromising as always – this will be a mainstay in Techno sets.

Ben Sims & Kirk Degiorgio – Machine [M001]

New label by Ben Sims and Kirk Degiorgio. Entitled, appropriately enough, Machine, the EP sees Degiorgio deliver the deep melodicism of “Machine Theme”, while Sims contributes one of his typically twisted productions in the shape of “Metal Works”, an alienating slice of prickly techno. To round it off, Sims remixes “Machine Theme”, concentrating on a tough 909 rhythm.

Kirk Degiorgio – Divine Logic [RH037]

Kirk Degiorgio returns on  Rush Hour with a new single, entitled ‘Divine Logic’. With ‘Divine Logic’ he keeps true to his own tradition by delivering a timeless piece of techno music. A string-laden track that evolves around an arpeggiated synth line. A classy joint that shows that the heritage of Detroit techno still lives on.

Future Past – Game Theory EP [ART-DDS007]

Kirk Degiorgio dusts down his Future Past moniker for a no-nonsense techno release. The title track typifies the EP, with a bubbly bassline and doubled up claps supporting whooshing, churning filters. It’s the same approach on “Sparta”, where a walking bass and warbling acid lines suggest a clean, pure sound, but then an intense filter pushes it into the realms of peak-time techno. “Skrunch” dispenses with the lighter, more playful elements in favour of a tunnelling groove that flows to the sound of arcing acid and a dark riff undertow, while “An Act of Modulation” completes the transfer from bubbly techno to a leaner-edged sound with squelchy tones tweaked against the backdrop of an insistent spiky rhythm track.

Claude Young & Takasi Nakajima – Rapture EP [ART011.1 / ART011.2]

YOUNG, Claude/TAKASI NAKAJIMA - Rapture

Claude Young teams up with his Takasi Nakajima to deliver the next EP on ART. Cool no-nonsense but thoughtful future-tech, with plenty of analog modulations for the heads – and dance-floor thump for the party people. On the flip, the legendary Ian O’Brien delivers a typically deep, Detroit tinged remix with trademark warm bass and glistening top lines. On the digital release two other remixes from label owner Kirk Degiorgio and TJ Korg.

Kirk Degiorgio & Ian O’Brien – Promenade Eleven EP [ART-NR2]

DEGIORGIO, Kirk/IAN O'BRIEN - Promenade Eleven

“Promenade Eleven” is a reverse-engineered remake of “Night On The Promenade” which originally appeared in limited quantities on the New Religion label in 2006 under the name “Super-A-Loof”. Promenade Eleven (Original Mix) adhere’s faithfully to the original arrangement but has been re-recorded and totally remixed from the ground-up for a modern club sound. Further to this release are two vastly different remixes – from label owner Kirk Degiorgio and The Third Man.

Arne Weinberg – Integrity Constraint Part 1 [ADEPTH003]

Integrity Constraint Part 1 is the first in a series of aDepth audio releases by Arne Weinberg. The EP’s opening track ‘The Circle’ combines deep house vibes with Arne’s beloved signature sound – evolving synth textures and unusual rhythms – with lots of soul and feeling. The EP’s second original track ‘Desdemonia’ slows the tempo a little, while a lead analogue bass finds it’s way among soothing strings and broken techno drums. Kirk Degiorgio’s remix of ‘Paralyzed Tribes’ has a driving bassline and a heavily effected vocal from Mr Degiorgio himself.
