Chicago born, Detroit-raised Delano Smith is one of the foundational artists of the contemporary house scenes. In 2023, he revealed he was suffering with a rare form of cancer but as this new EP title suggests, he is still here and still crafting high-grade sounds. ‘When I Was Young’ kicks off with his signature smoky drum loops and train travel sense of hypnosis. ‘The Rush’ is another heads down jam, this time marbled with eerie pads and wet clicks and claps that oil the groove while ‘Rewired’ shuts down with real late night delicacy and evocative minimalism.

Two strong remixes for Delano Smith. Efdemin and Tobias are on the case. Efdemin drops an epic building Detroit techno flavoured bomb and Tobias take is equally strong but slightly more trippy and hypnotic.

Andrade is new talent coming from the Parisian underground. Andrade is currently putting the finishing touches on his future productions and just started his own label Street Knowledge Recordings.

The label boss’s return to his own Mixmode sees him explore earthy house rather than the streamlined beaters that made Odyssey such a smash. Precipice EP has three hypnotic tracks of organic Motor City textures and rhythms. Mariana’s Song builds with the strong fluid motion omnipresent in all Smith’s productions. Mechanical drums drive a rugged analogue bass line, while flowing pads are layered to create a bright soundscape. The track is one to captivate the floor, building effortlessly to lock it into step. Set over a tight locomotive groove, Delano’s talent for twisting up vocal samples creates a smokey, atmosphere on Celebration. Toughening the drums and easing in the bottom end, choice drum fills heighten the impact of the beautifully swung drums. The dusty beats on Dream Come True bounce with a wide eyed rawness. At once fragile and assertive, the soft chords are reclined above a gently insistent bass line to give the floor or the home stereo a comfortable ride. Able to focus the output of his own label on the kind of tracks that first saw him emerge, Delano has built a bridge to introduce new ears to the sound of his city.

Norm Talley drops 4 dope Detroit house tracks with different vibes on MixMode records. ‘Powder’ and ‘More Powder’ are the peak hour house tracks with classic chords and a steady uptempo groove. Then we got two Beatdown tracks ‘Lost’ and ‘Private Party’ that both stand out.

Overwhelming warm tracks with classic grooves and that fresh vibe from the Detroit house don.
