SNUFF CREW/PERSEUS TRAXX/RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARP/ELEC PT 1 - Happy Jackin Birthday

Snuff Trax celebrates magic record release number 010: Happy Jackin Birthday! For this little anniversary we asked four great artists to rework chosen tracks from the labels back catalogue. Leading us off, Mr White (you know him from his collaboration with Larry Heard) made an edit of Snuff Crews *Are You House*. Followed by Humandrone from Tokyo remixing Perseus Traxx – *Dont Feel Alone*. On the flipside you hear a remix treatment for Raiders of the lost ARP – *Stealing My Love* made by our man Takeshi Kouzuki of Kobe/Japan. And last but not least DimDJ from Thessaloniki created his own version of *Galaxian Journey* by Elec Pt.1.

Perseus Traxx – An Apparent Horizon [CYBERDANCE016]

Cyber Dance Records are back on the attack with a fresh release from Perseus Traxx aka Nigel Rogers, a 4-track EP entitled after recent scientific developments ‘An Apparent Horizon’. It’s a firmly machine-based and totally jam-packed affair reflecting diverse sounds from the UK’s own rich history of electronic dance music, with elements from the classic Warp “deep space sound” prominent as much as the more usual 303-jacking acid house grooves in the vein of Baby Ford or Bam Bam. ‘Lost Dreams’ opens the record with a floaty dream-like hipnosis from the depths of space and sets the tone in magnificent style, followed up on Side A with the irresistible roll of ‘Reverse The Trend’ that takes the groove harder, further and deeperstraight off to the beyond. Dark strings reminiscent of old LFO, B-12 or Autechre vinyls from the early 90s propel us into Side B on ‘Darkness Stalks’, and then we’re transported onto the concluding track on the EP, ‘Distances’; an epic closer that opens with beautiful reverbed claps and acid squelches before diving into an inky black void of timeless space-travelling and slow-building tension that could surely echo hauntingly around any M25 rave in the depths of a late 1980s night.

Sir Leon Greg – Warehouse Classics #3 [WAR003]

Sir Leon Greg (another incarnation of Perseus Traxx) jams out then reinforces some edits of forgotten classics with a raw & personal analogue treatment for a devastating full effect on the dance floor, that is a far cry from the proliferation of over-produced squeaky-clean software edits. These are basic, raw ideas thrown down quickly and capturing the energy on 1/4” tape.

John Heckle – Laid Away EP [SCN004]

Scenery Records serves up a full EP from Liverpool’s much loved house and techno inventor, John Heckle. Remixes come from Dekmantel duo Ksoul & Muteoscillator and MOS alumnus Perseus Traxx. Up first is the oh so lively ‘Laid Away’ which has myriad synth lines all squiggling about above jacking, rough edges house beats. Some of them squeal, some of them are smooth and serene and overall the result is a multi-layered track that fires every synapse in your body. The Perseus Traxx remix of the same track ups the acid ante, smoothes out some of the edges but retains that classic Chicago feel that defines much of his work, whilst Ksoul & Muteoscillator strip everything back to buried deep drums, gentle clattering percussion and a seriously ponderous synth line. It’s moody and desolate yet hugely inviting. ‘DDT’ is a much deeper and murkier affair. Everything comes coated in layers of dirt and dust, be it the sporadic cowbell ping, the scraping percussive smears or the frenzied synth lines. Frankly, the hi hats are so sharp edged you feel they might cut you and the blasts of white noise add yet more layers of intrigue.

VA – Fields Of Light [PF005]

BNJMN/AROY DEE/LEROSA/METROPOLIS/PERSEUS TRAXX/TR ONE - Fields Of Light

‘Fields Of Light’ is an ambitious compilation release containing 6 tracks by BNJMN, Aroy Dee, Lerosa, Metropolis, Perseus Traxx and Tr One, that focuses on other qualities than the usual style-similarities. Here, the focus has been put on some other aspect; their soulful and melancholic nature. On each side 15 minutes of dreamily emotive and sometimes alienating works from these 6 producers have been pressed. Some of them appeared earlier on Photic Fields, others are new here. Among these works you’ll find a deep and multilayered sonic excursion (by BNJMN), a dark, futuristic and movie-inspired piece (by Metropolis) and an emotion-drenched late 80’s inspired house music-cut (by Perseus Traxx). Each of these tracks may have their moment to be played, some might work on dancefloors while other are ‘just’ for the home-listener. But a true sentimentalist should find these moments.

Sean Dixon – Perspective EP [FINALCHAPTER002]

The second Final Chapter release. Once again Stockholm’s Sean Dixon perfectly executes a pair of heavy, late night, club tracks kicking off with “Perspective” with its subtle organ stabs, tight percussion, solid bass and inspirational vocal. Detroit´s Jared Wilson remakes it with with an older feel, then twists it into something more raw, dusty and intense. “Anxiety” wobbles subtly into being with haunting synth parts and pleasurably disjointed percussive elements, which keep interest and maintain a groove, only to be straightened into something much more linear as it’s remade by Perseus Traxx, spreading the heavy and unsettling tones of his own anxieties.

Perseus Traxx – Circuit Control (The Crystal Issue Cycle 2) [SOM/CIC002]

Solar One Music is back with their “The Crystal Issue” series. After Mantra’s debut now Nigel Rogers better known as Perseus Traxx presents his authentic chicago house on this series. Moody synths, rattling drum machines and bubbling Acid at its best. Two tracks for the dancefloor and for your mind.

Sean Dixon / Perseus Traxx – Warehouse EP [FINALCHAPTER001]

A brand new label split between Stockholm and York, homes of the two artists on this first release. Despite the label name, this is far from being the final chapter, simply the beginning of a new collaboration to push raw club tracks and machine tones inspired by Chicago House and Detroit Techno.

Operator Tracey / Perseus Traxx ‎– Nothing To Do With Us / Across The North Sea [F-Flash004]

Unlike most other labels, Future Flash is identified by a medieval style wax seal bearing the label’s logo, meaning the records can only be played on one side. As such they are highly sought after collectors items and vanish from the market place very quickly. All vinyl comes stamped with the wax seal, and an ink stamp detailing the Artists and tracks, all contained within a paper sleeve and a disco bag. The fourth release includes two tracks by mysterious Operator Tracey and label man Perseus Traxx.

Perseus Traxx – Goddesses Of Inspiration [FLR006]

The Muses are the nine Goddesses who promote literature, science and the arts; the personifications of inspiration. Though only named and assigned characteristics as recently as the Roman era, they were revered by the ancient Greeks, who documented that them as having been recruited by the Egyptian God Osiris as he passed through Ethiopia prior to embarking on a tour of Asia and Europe to teach the arts of cultivation to mankind. Its with this in mind that Perseus Traxx, makes his first release on Newcastles Flight Recorder label, delivering an ode to four of them directly rather than the forms they have inhabited while they visit him. Bubbling and cutting, heavy synths and dusty tones are jammed out live to tape, ranging from the playful to the stark as they characterise the appropriately named tracks. An ordered tangle of wires and patching in a unique set of acid-free sonic experiments, that sometimes feel as cold and edgy, as they do warm and carefree.

New and improved Bunker / Panzerkreuz Records! A 4 inlay with artwork by Perseus Traxx himself + red Bunker stamp! More drug-induced deep house for more deep penetration of that feeble mind, and as usual mr. Rogers delivers with the most authentic chicagoan ‘eighties’ jackin’ sound the year of the Lord 2013 may witness…

Finally out of little Britain, ahum, sorry, out of little Paxton, Mr. Rogers is currently thriving on his newly acquired medication of high-quality codeine, all thanks to the benign blessings of the pharmaceutical industry: His house is definitely jackin’ it deeper and browner than ever before, almost sounding like a Ron Hardy shooting up at the end of a hard day’s night back in the days of the warehouse.
