Levente Takacs aka Ivel Tax is next in line for Hipodrome Podcast Series. Levi is a young dj, producer and label owner from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He started his producing career some years back, having his debut in 2007. Since then he had the privilege to work or to share releases with artists like Aaron-Carl, Jefferson Velazquez, Steffi or the Dutch duo Jeroen Search & Dimi Angelis and labels like Terpsichore, All Inn or Studio Soulrock.
He is also managing the Green Apple Radio Show, a 2 hours monthly show on Proton Radio and Ensonic Radio, showcasing exclusive mixes from world renown Djs like Brandon Moeller, Stewart Walker, Robert Dietz, Bazz or Phil Weeks.
In 2009, Levi started his own label Disco Birds focusing on underground house music.

The”Chordial” EP is made of 4 tracks covering completely different styles bearing only one common trait: warm harmonies. Mihai Dobrica has been working on it for the full past year and the russian artist Anton Zap is his inspiration.

Dragobete is a traditional Romanian holiday, celebrated on February 24 and is considered the Romanian equivalent of Valentine’s Day, a day for lovers. The day is known as “the day when the birds are betrothed”. It is around this time that the birds begin to build their nests and mate. On this day, considered locally the first day of spring, boys and girls gather vernal flowers and sing together. Maidens used to collect the snow that still lies on the ground in many villages and then melt it, using the water in magic potions throughout the rest of the year. Those who take part in Dragobete customs are supposed to be protected from illness, especially fevers, for the rest of the year. If the weather allows, girls and boys pick snowdrops or other early spring plants for the person they are courting.
We celebrate spring with this lovely mix from our beloved Das Komitee and wish you a year full of love and may the good music find you.

It’s time for the first podcast from the new year and we bring you a very special session from a vinyl devoted person. Lektronikumuz, Remus Miron in his real name, is a true defender and keeper of the vinyl, one of the last of his kind in Romania. Remus is playing exclusively vinyl and he is, in my opinion, the only dj still playing regularly quality Detroit techno in Romania.

One thing The Model manages to do is keep people guessing. Just when you thought you’d pinned him down to some convenient pigeonhole, he somehow manages to jack-knife his way out of it. Need proof? Look no further than his latest EP, “The Principles of Modelling”.

New release on Hudd Traxx, from Romanian DJ and producer Jay Bliss. The EP includes 3 deep house grooves with a detroit feeling.

Despite being club oriented with touches of dub techno and deep house, this EP attempts to reach a higher, more complex and edgy musical goal: 90% of it is made using audio samples and instruments collected through a lot of years and I tried to profit from all their imperfections and limitations.

Thommy is one of the few djs promoting the underground movement in Cluj-Napoca. For the last 5 years, he was involved in different projects that focused in promoting parties with good music and quality people. He presented us two mixes with two different attitudes, both showing some quality techno.

August it’s hot, Chicago is hotter, so we give you a hot chicago-house mix. Dragos Rusu delivered us a rough acid house podcast to jack your bodies in the long hot summer nights. Dragos is living in Bucharest and he is an editor for an electronic music magazine / promoter / booking agent / manager / dj you name it, if it’s related to electronic music he’d been there. Dragos is one of the founders of beatfactor.ro more than 8 years ago, a web site that became one of the most important Romanian online electronic music magazines. Dragos is djing for some years now and he is a dj without inhibitions, known for playing mostly in underground, infamous, hedonistic parties and afterhours.

For the third Hipodrome podcast we are proud to present Das Komitee. He was part of Exposed Audio and Elektro.Casnice and is one of Romania’s most underground djs. His sets are always very eclectic and unpredictable, playing a mixture of electro, italo disco, acid house and techno and never following the hype. He crafted for us a mix melting new with old, deep with acid, house with italo in his own characteristic style.

Juggling easily with bass, glitch and synth funk reworked live, Minus has been present on the Romanian scene for the last 5 years with music ranging from Game Boy tunes to dub, hip hop, skweee or even to psychedelic improvisations along Ion. After releasing 3 EPs at the Romanian netlabel Arhiva 7 and notable performances at Red Bull Music Academy and Sonar 2010, his biggest joy is his spectacular evolution rathder than his accomplishments.
1. Minus – 23 Estival 2.11 2573 plays
2. Minus – Soveja 3.03 1622 plays
3. Minus – Hașdeu 3.10 2319 plays
4. Minus – Teatrul De Vară (As Soon As) 3.23 1496 plays
5. Minus – Neptun (Heading For Something) 3.51 1876 plays
This EP has its roots in the most contemporary, trendy yet not necessarily the most used genres: it flows from wonky hip hop to hauntology. Relying heavily on sampling, the EP succeeds in being a very personal (and thus, original) piece of work that attempts to capture what makes each of us unique, things like personal memories and the places we have grown in.
“95” has the sheer energy of a 1990 Romanian disco club revisited with a 2010 post-rave attitude. It’s like reading The Three Musketeers after spending the weekend dancing in Berlin.

Hipodrome Podcast series continues with Alexandru Jijian, an up-and-coming dj from Bucharest, Romania. With this podcast, he had shown his experimental side. For me this mix is like a very very hot summer day, like the ones we are having right now … The mix has around 90 minutes and it’s starting very deep, then as the heat is getting higher and higher, the mix is going into some ambient stuff. By the time when we passed half of the mix, the heat seems to disappear slightly as the night is coming. The mix takes a sudden turn and goes to straight up techno.
Enjoy it.

Here is the starting point for the podcast series. The first mix is from Toygun, a young dj from Hermannstadt , Romania. He delivers a 2 hours mix with more than 40 chicago, electro, disco and italo tracks.
I hope you enjoy it, I certainly did.

Yojik-ConCon is a new Romanian label inducing a contemporary concept of music making which works against current stylistic conventions. Crossing limits and voiding thresholds between strict musical principles, the label’s owner Petre Inspirescu intends to contemplate innovative experimentation upon sound’s mood and motion.Electronic merges with other genres through subtlety and simplicity, allowing the music to inhabit variety of implementations, despite dance. His first release under a new name ‘Tt Ensemble’, introduces his new project and invites to reevaluate the contemporary musical attributes.
