Ultra Random Analog Orchestra – EP3 [3ELP2020013]
Ultra Random Analog Orchestra is a new project by Brendon Moeller. Starting by sculpting an audio collage in realtime, using a eurorack modular system, Brendon Moeller keeps randomness at the front of his methodology. Whether inputting found samples or designing sounds from scratch using oscillators and/or noise sources, he begins haphazardly sequencing, filtering, modulating and arranging the randomness. A spirit of experimentation and spontaneity drives these productions.

Peter Van Hoesen – A Swing Is Not A Throw [T2X38]
A Swing Is Not A Throw, released on Time To Express, is Peter Van Hoesen’s latest EP. The five track release is the indirect result of his decision in 2022 to fully focus on live shows. This shift allowed him to create hours of new material, which he later refined and shaped into modular building blocks. These musical components were designed to be combined in various ways, allowing for real-time experimentation during his shows. Following his shows, he began the process of analysis. Whereupon he would take notes on successes and decide how to enhance the overall sound. What we know now as A Swing Is Not A Throw is the result of six months of live material, transformed into complete tracks.

Halvtrak returns to Cold Blow with techno-romantic rave escapism, riding Chi House-leaning rhythms and intergalactic Techno sculptures. If his previous “Images By Night” dealt with things nocturnal, Digital Dawn opens the curtains to a blue-eyed retrofuturism, bursting with colour and spark.
King Sporty / Fashion Funktion – Sun Country [ERC147]
Here comes Emotional Rescue and Konduko’s last in their series of Noel Williams/King Sporty reissues, this time looking at later electro productions and the hip-hop/boogie influenced ‘Sun Country’. Vocals and co-production come from Williams’ long-time partner Betty Wright and as well as a vocal and instrumental mix there’s a longform remix by Bay Area disco dub stalwarts, 40 Thieves.
Bôkaye – Ethno Groove [ERC140]
As one of the finest and most stylishly eclectic labels out there, you never know where Emotional Rescue will go next. This time out they head into a world of Afro-cosmic. Bôkaye’s 1990 gem ‘Ethno Groove’ stands out as a classic of the genre and joins the dots between the early house and techno sounds that were sweeping Italy with new age ideals, Afro drums and chunky tribal percussion next to Balearic synths. It features syncopated analogue beats and live percussion and as well as the original, this 12” features two of the further mixes that came in 1994.
Antoni Maiovvi – Birds Of Paradise EP [BAP178]
It’s been nine years since Antoni Maiovvi released Trauma on Bordello A Parigi and now, he returns with “Birds of Paradise”, his latest musical incarnation. This avian themed four tracker is beyond anything you’ve heard from this synthesizer wizard. Complex, deep and layered, the EP is testament to a talent rarely heard.
VA – Machine Funk Is Our Game Volume 6 [KJ068]
Kraftjerkz solidifies itself as america’s east coast electro label with the 6th volume of the popular series. Brooklyn’s ALONZO gets the party started with a bass-heavy track which picks up where Pretty Tony left off. Daniel Savio’s contribution is perfect for street dance or cruising the highway. Deroboter comes with a hard, distorted kraftwerkian production. Kid Ginseng delivers an electro/scratch song featuring Questosahn reminiscent of Knights of the Turntables. Finally, the UK’s Cybereign concludes with a passionate, melodic banger that blends nicely with a technobass record.
Kenny Hooper – Detroit Orbiter Vol.1 [ELY110]
Young Detroit-native Kenny Hooper, former member of Scan 7, steps up for his debut release on Elypsia Records with not one, not two but three 12 inches full of prime Motor City techno and electro escapism. Titled ,,Detroit Orbiter Series” Volume I, II and III, each EP features four tracks, showcasing Kenny Hooper’s brilliant and contemporary personal take on classic Detroit sounds. The twelve tracks of the ,,Detroit Orbiter Series” trilogy signal the arrival of a fresh Motor City talent ready to rake the world and dance floors by storm with his chunky and funkified sonic fictions.
The Hacker – Red Team [MIN303]
After a frenzied 2019 debut on Pinkman under his scarcely-used Amato alias, The Hacker brings his seminal sound to Mindri for the sublabel’s 3rd release. Exploring desolate cityscapes and windswept tundras shrouded in winter’s gloom, he provides 6 club tracks that are suitable for dancefloors at any stage of the night. From feverish 4/4 kicks to stalking electro and a chugging after-hours stomp, stripped back rhythms dominate throughout. Punching their way through misty pads in a relentless chase with metallic synths that are icy to the touch, these are 6 slabs of machine-driven grooves from a master of the art.
Delkom – Futur Ultra [SMR013]
Delkom’s only known previously released album. Originally released in 1990 by the wonder duo consisting of Saba Komossa and Gabi Delgado. The album is released as a continuous mix with each track delineated on the grooves. Imagine Berlin in 1990, the wall is about to come down, no social media, no CDJs, new drugs are being standardized and this is the soundtrack to your night out in this debaucherous capital, exploding with energies that anthropology PhD students still haven’t been able to fully describe. The entire record sounds like a dub mix that almost wasn’t allowed to be released by the record label, unorthodox in its methods, too experimental for most studios yet highly effective on the best of dancefloors. Sexually charged lyrics, driving percussive rawness over heftily synthesized bass lines, all boxes are checked for total club mayhem. Pioneers in their own right, clearly marking their territory in Berlin dancefloor culture from its early post reunification days. Powerfully tasteful and unique sounds from a golden age.

“Feral Vapours of the Silver Ether” is the second album by Chris & Cosey as Carter Tutti, following 2004’s Cabal. A haunting, gothic 11-tracker that revels more in cinematic beauty than abrasive sonic gristle, its standout pieces such as ‘Woven Clouds’ recalling the heartfelt studio masterpieces of This Mortal Coil or the mysterious blackgaze dissociations of Black Tape For A Blue Girl. Hess delivers a typically classy interpretation, taking the core of the original and twisting it into an IDM tinged cut via crunchy broken drums and shimmering synth textures.
Surgeon – Crash Recoil [TRESOR351]
Tresor Records releases “Crash Recoil”, a new album by Surgeon. It marks Anthony Child’s first techno LP in five years, following a period in which he felt uncertainty in his role as a techno producer and found it tough to locate inspiration. This new album encounters him drawing on spontaneous techniques to arrive at unchartered topographies. “Crash Recoil” originates from Surgeon’s recent live sets, where he experimented with constraints in performing and embracing the twists, turns and paradoxes that arrive from this.
The Don – The Don EP [THEDON01]
Last seen on Discogs in 2017, the mysterious Marvyn Don returns with a full release of his old Lilac Road & Swag related EP from the early 2000’s, with four UK techno and tech house inspired rollers that are fit for any dark club or afters. This EP has been brought back to life with some exciting additions to the series coming later this year.
