Ole Mic Odd – Mythical Realm [KRI007]

LA-based producer Ole Mic Odd is back on the Slovenian label KRI with a full EP that crashes electro traditions into gloomy post-punk aesthetics. The result is six filthy tunes of menacing vocoders, murky pads and distorted acid that go from 2 AM clinched-teeth-madness to punishing slow burners that will bump a 64 Pontiac Lowrider.

Egyptian Lover – Emotions / Dirty [DMSR87011]

Egyptian Lover is celebrating 40 years of releasing music in 2024 AMD ‘Emotions’ is the first track from his upcoming album titled 1987. It’s a classic 80s inspired west-coast electro style cut – a style that Egyptian Lover is pretty much responsible for creating, harking back to his classic material like ‘Egypt, Egypt’ and ‘I Need a Freak’, his use of the Roland 808 along with Kraftwerk and hip-hop influences making the artist synonymous with the origin of the electro sound. Also included is ‘Emotional’ which is the instrumental version of the title track. For the B-Side ‘Dirty Passionate Yell’ is featured again, along with the instrumental version (Dirty Music).

Dustin Zahn – Temporary Vandalism EP [BP074]

Dustin Zahn makes a return to the techno label Blueprint with his latest titled ‘Temporary Vandalism’. ‘Catharsis’ is a metallic sounding banger that thrives on driving the tension to an all-time pitch – all the making of a classic techno record. ‘Rotator’ adds a bit more of a tribal sound to the looped style killer. The title track goes full tribal reminding us of classic Oliver Ho material. ‘Conduit Of Chaos’ is perhaps our favorite of the lot with the classy ever-changing rhythm and incessant pressure that continues to rise. For many, Blueprint is the example of proper techno – and that’s a theory that’s backed up by this dancefloor ammunition.

For the sixteenth output, Marguerite Records presents a new compilation. The A side marks the eclectic label shadow: ‘Condizione Umana’ by Italian Massacres, the duo composed by Violet Poison and Davide Pestillo, opens the release with an enigmatic VHS-tinged composition, sci-fi b-movie soundtracks inspired. A2 ’Zezuru’, a giant cinematic drone wrapped in distorted percussion by LIES affiliated German Army followed up by ‘Drone Thugs & Harmonies’, a slow tempo psychedelic-dub from Dutch’s Galactic Funk owner Bertram. Closing up the first side is ‘Solar’, an authentic electro full speed track by the Croatian musician and sound engineer Zarkoff. ‘Lies in Disguise’ has an obscure synth bass sequence and textured vocals by KRI affiliated the duo Black Dot and opens up the second side, followed up by ‘Cage’, produced by the Italian New-Beat master Unconscious. After that, Florence’s Synth-Punk band Zona Utopica Garantita maintains the old-school vein with ‘Lifetime Shock’. The release is closed by the firework-ish beats of ‘Tory Gloryhole’ by Autumns.

Time Capsule – Sexual Desire / Heat In Africa [THANKYOU031]

An interesting insight into some of the diverse dancefloor oriented sounds going on in Canada during the 80s sitting somewhere between electro, italo disco and proto house. A-side starts off on a slow paced 80 bpm pop/rock italo-disco crossover track featuring lyrics in english with an unidentifiable accent, very much reminiscent of Italian local neighbourhood private press ventures featuring someone’s sister on the vocal. 3 versions later, on the B side, things step up a notch coming in at 130 bpm with “Heat In Africa’s” drum machine propelled rhythmic mayhem pulling out all the latest studio bells and whistles of the time. Big electric guitar solo build up on the “Dance Mix” and additional Bonus Beats mix by Castro.
