This is a short recap of what our readers enjoyed most on Hipodrome, a top 3 of the most appreciated albums, compilations, mixes and other stuff.
Vakula – Metaphors [Leleka]
The most appreciated album by our readers is ‘Metaphors’, the album from the Ukrainian master Vakula. ‘Metaphors’ is slightly different from some of his full-length excursions, focused as it is on the gently unfurling, head-in-the-clouds world of ambient music. Of course, much of the music is still gently rhythmic but the vibe remains thoroughly horizontal throughout.
The second volume of Casa Voyager’s compilation gathers the label’s regulars OCB and Kosh, as well as two new artists: Polyswitch, coming straight from the shady streets of Casablanca and also known as the moroccan funkmaster, and Jamal, who comes from the moroccan diaspora in Europe and purveyor of post-futuristic electro beats, keeping the dutch-moroccan connection alive.
The Moroccan label Casa Voyager returns with 4 electro tracks from Kosh aka Youssef Benjelloun to feed you data fantasies. The Casablanca based producer delivers a very efficient debut release. Death or serious injury could occur if ear comes in contact with this music.
It has been 4 years since I made the last ‘review of the year …’ or ‘best of … ‘ list and it was not planned for 2017, but looking back at last year somehow the music scene shifted in a good way. From the music point of view, I think we are living better times now, we can see a revival of the old school electro and acid house, afrobeat is still hot, EBM is going strong.
Debut release of Casa Voyager, first Moroccan label exploring hidden cultural spheres in Casablanca.5 liquid electro Detroit tracks produced, mixed and arranged by Driss Bennis aka OCB (A1, A2) Youssef Benjelloun aka Kosh (B1, B2)and Jonas Bengio aka Viewtiful Joe (B3).
