2018 Top 3 – Readers List

This is a short recap of what our readers enjoyed most on Hipodrome, a top 3 of the most appreciated albums, compilations, mixes and other stuff.

Albums

Vakula – Metaphors [Leleka]

The most appreciated album by our readers is ‘Metaphors’, the album from the Ukrainian master Vakula. ‘Metaphors’ is slightly different from some of his full-length excursions, focused as it is on the gently unfurling, head-in-the-clouds world of ambient music. Of course, much of the music is still gently rhythmic but the vibe remains thoroughly horizontal throughout.

Brian Harden – The World Peace EP [COLT002]

Originally released back in 2001 on Chicago’s finest Nite Life Collective, The World Peace is one of Brian Harden’s personal favourites among his many releases. Born in Chicago’s southside and back by popular demand, Harden’s back catalogue is full of gems, but it was after a series of coincidences that we decided to reissue two of the tracks on the original The World Peace EP, and then add a twist in the shape of an astounding remix by SIT, the duo formed by Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia.

SIT – Kamuza EP [NAU001]

SIT aka Sideways Invisibility Theory are back on Romania’s new Neural label. The duo have molded their own particular brand of minimalistic house, a glorious concoction of organic beats and glitched-out melodies. “Moai” boasts one of those irresistibly addictive basslines that pounces forth with elegance, moving progressively beneath the jumble of percussion sounding something like Villalobos in one of his more animated moods. “Mazuka” treads down more experimental paths, with the hi-hats making themselves clearly audible amid the woozing synth which drains in an out of the beat.
