Kai Alcé feat. Azulu Phantom – Willow EP [DEEPEXPLORER025-12]
Deep Explorer imprint comes correct with a limited edition white label 10″ from Kai Alce. The Willow EP positively drips with Detroit machine soul; the title track features floating synths and a subtle bassline working beneath Azulu Phantom’s vocals. This leads into the excellent “Track 3”, which features some raw, brittle drums, soulful moans and an unforgettably deep bass line. Flip over for the acid-tinged Deep Explorer remix of the title track, which takes the original and spans it out over an entire side of wax with subtly hypnotic results.
Beaner – Mixed Doubles [THEMA029]
Pablo Roman Alcalá aka Beaner brought some seriously sexy bent grooves over to Brooklyn for those ever lasting late night benders. He returns to take his place on the dance floor with four deep, fractured after-hours jams. The name “Mixed Doubles” is apt, as you’ll find the pairings of unlikely elements on these tracks aligning nicely… before they are slowly pried apart.
Ivano Tetelepta – Throwdown House [SDROP006]
Sudden Drop ditch the techno sounds their release and head back to the more classic deep house sounds that signified the launch of the label. Ivano Tetelepta is the man chosen to lead the way back to house with this excellent double header of super slick sounds. ‘Throwdown House’ treads a hypnotic path whilst flipsides ‘That Deep Shit’ opts for a more traditional deep house vibe.

Deep deep house music for the heads, recorded on analog gear and heavily infiltred with his own field recordings. Nothing lightweight, just the heavy goods!
DJ Jus-Ed – Endurance [UQCD044]
Following numerous mix CDs, singles and doublepack vinyl EPs in 2011, jus-Ed begins 2012 with a typically impressive collection of soft-focus deep house with a rugged, floor-friendly edge. As ever, there’s a high musical content (see the haunting acid bass and twinkling pianos of “Confused Passion”), alongside rougher cuts that explore the darker recesses of early morning deep house. Take, for example, the dreamy synths and ice-cold acid of “Trip To Hamburg” or liquid atmospherics of “Mr Pete’s Cribby”. Like the rest of Endurance, they’re inspirationally melodic without losing dancefloor focus.

Feelharmonic presents Satore with his EP ‘On Tape’. The young Spanish producer makes his label debut with the deep title track ‘On Tape’ and the funky, percussion-driven ‘For The Road’. On the remix front, the excellent Madrid-based duo Ordell and Ernie from Minuendo Recordings house it up even further with a re-work each of ‘On Tape’ and ‘For The Road’ respectively.

Apartment Record’s 2nd release comes from Ireland’s analogue-obsessed soul assassins, Tr One. On the A-side, “Drum Dance” is a fusion of beatdown with a minimal techno aesthetic, creating a hypnotic journey through the duo’s machines. The B-side serves up 2 alternative takes. John Heckle’s debut remix takes a heaving, lo-fi approach to the original’s drums while layering it with wistful synths, before Juju & Jordash’s Dub version closes off proceedings in their inimitable style; expansive yet claustrophobic at the one time.

Tangible Assets is a new independent label for underground dance music associated with deepness. The debut release “Asset001” showcases four original tracks from Stojche. The opening track “Introvert” track is a strong pounding melodic techno track where the infectious pad theme is filled with various warm synths and chords. The side continues with “Decay”, a nice symbiosis between the old-skool groove and mellow pads, spiced up leading texture and a beautiful string arrangement. The B-side kicks off with “Traveler”, a deep ‘n soulful groover, with raw percussion, dubby chords and a unique lead. Finally the last cut of this EP is “Raw Method” – is a Detroit-influenced stripped down house tune, where the 808 drums combine with synths, padlines and electric piano chords.
