VA – Dekmantel 10 Years 08 [DKMNTL10YEARS08]

As they continue to celebrate turning ten, Dekmantel has lined-up another Various Artists release. With a common language of abstract, modular techno Donato Dozzy and Peter van Hoesen are no strangers to each other’s music or studios. ‘Storta’ has that psychedelic tribal aesthetic that has come to define their most recent live-hybrid performances. Deniro drives a soulful, journey to an intergalactic world that was shaped by the Gods of Detroit. Talismann, aka. Guy Blanken, aka. Makam, is the much travelled Dutch producer with a specialty for hypnotic drones, and apocalyptic rhythms. Talismann makes his first foray onto the Dekmantel imprint with ‘Aciano’, a haunting series of raw acid, and prophetic beats. ‘Sexual Frustration’ by Matrixxman, is a continuation of the American producer’s ever-growing relationship with Dekmantel.

Donato Dozzy – Afterhouse 01 [AFHS01]

Forward thinking futuristic house cuts on this new project by Donatto Dozzy called Afterhouse. Four driving dj tools that go deeep. Although renowned as a maker of dark, intense, doom-laden techno, Donato Dozzy has been known to dabble in house from time to time. That’s the idea behind his new Afterhouse label. Of course, nobody would expect Dozzy to deliver fluffy deep house or slick U.K garage. Typically, the four cuts here – from the brilliantly broken, analogue-rich wonkiness of “B”, to the hypnotic, Chicago-influenced late-night jack of “D” – all tend towards the dark and clandestine, with the producer’s usual murky aural textures present throughout. There’s a slightly more positive feel to the clattering drum machine hits and simple, otherworldly synth lines that mark out closer “E”, while the thrusting, loopy “C” feels like a pitched-down take on his usual techno sound.

Their majestic disc includes one of their own pieces, tracks made with Move D as Magic Mountain High, plus other unreleased tracks from Donato Dozzy, Gigi Masin and others. It makes for a brain soothing and escapist listening.

Svreca & Voices From The Lake – Between The Lines [SPAZIO008]

Italian label Spazio Disponibile continues its fine run of form with a new EP that features four collaborative tracks by the bosses Voices From The Lake (aka Donato Dozzy and Neel) versus Semantica boss Svreca. The EP is a result of their first studio session all together in Rome. All three have been perfecting cinematic ambient techno for years now and have the cerebral, atmospheric aesthetic down to a tee. Here they offer up proof across a series of hypnotic tracks that take you deep into your own mind. It’s alien and abstract yet wholly consuming and will zone you out in no time.

VA – Dreamy Harbor [TRESOR291]

When Tresor founder Dimitri Hegemann stumbled into a former bank vault in East Berlin on March 13th 1991, he had little idea that the space he had unlocked would fast become one of Berlin’s most influential and enduring techno clubs. As Tresor celebrates its 25th anniversary with this work of artists from the US, Germany, China, France, Austria, Italy and the UK, it is worth dwelling on how the cultural conditions that birthed Detroit techno – economic neglect and broken industry – were mirrored by the disused bunkers and impromptu parties of post-unification East Berlin, where techno found new, vigorous expression. This record marks the spirit of those 25 years of creativity, a paean to the psychedelic music of Dimitri’s youth. From the signature magnetic soundscapes of Vainqueur to the dark textures of upcoming Beijing producer Shao; from Jon Hassell’s slow epicurean volutes, to the ritual auras of Marcelus and Claudia Anderson’s contributions; from the dub-infused pioneering programming of Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald, to Mønic’s enthralling cadences, it represents some of the old and new names that continually epitomise Tresor’s perennial spirit of ingenuity.

Mike Parker & Donato Dozzy – Paramagnetism [SPAZIO006]

Donato Dozzy and Neels Spazio Disponibile label has come correct with a fantastic new EP, this time from Donato Dozzy in collaboration with US artist Mike Parker. Parker has a very unique and well styled brand of techno that fits in perfectly with the deeply hypnotic sounds favoured by Dozzy. Together they cook up four more brain frying cuts that are expertly crafted and meticulously sculpted.

Donato Dozzy – That Fab [SPAZIO002]

Spazio Disponibile is the Italian label run by Voices From the Lake, aka Italians Donato Dozzy and Neel. It finds the pair putting out music made with their Rome party of the same name in mind. Music comes from the founders themselves, as well as guests who record in the studio in the days leading up to the party. After a first release by Voices From The Lake, Dozzy is back with a solo EP offering four cuts to form the That Fab EP.

Donato Dozzy / Retina.it – Officine Di Efesto [SEM075]

Officine Di Efesto is the latest 12″slab from Svreca’s ever on-point Semantica featuring remixes of two uncredited tracks from Donato Dozzy and Naples duo Retina. It, and the lack of further information doesn’t lessen the sonic impact. Dozzy features on the A-side, with his remix of “Automa Talos” a potent exercise in unrelenting techno hypnosis with a strange looped sound that is weirdly reminiscent of ducks quacking present throughout. The Retina. It take on “Automa Pandora” is a much more stripped back, minimal affair that is just as effective.

Donato Dozzy – Squadra Squadra EP [BK015]

It’s difficult to imagine The Bunker New York without Donato Dozzy. The roster of artists who have played the party over the past decade-plus reads like a proper Who’s Who of modern techno and house, but if there’s one artist in particular whose sound and vision has had an outsize impact on The Bunker, both as a party and as a record label, it would be Donato Dozzy.

Voices from the Lake – Live at MAXXI [EMEGO209LP]

‘Italian techno masterminds Donato Dozzy and Neel are returning as the duo Voices From The Lake with a release on the mother label Editions Mego: Live @ MAXXI is a marvellous organic live-set of hypnotic ambient techno, proofing the outstanding and elegant craftsmanship of their sonic sculpturing, that they both are famous for. As was to be expected they stay true to their polyphonic topography of liquid scapes: aquatic sceneries are embedded in soaking dense atmospheres, gently gyrating us into trance. Sometimes soft echoes of sirenic voices are heard – the only remnants of human traces in these spaces that have suspended time, where smooth silky textures are being channeled into fractal structures that induce a state of transcendence. The haptic quality of their sound is adding up to a sonic matrix of metaphysic imaginary that is provoked by gentle glides and dynamic beat patterns of almost tribalistic quality. Dunked in a bath of dark fluid, sometimes washed away at the shores of Kosmische – VFTL’s tunes are not scared to seduce us into a condition of haziness, culminating in a cover of Paolo Conte’s ,Max’ which is turned into a dazzling sample of sweet, dreamy melancholia.

Donato Dozzy – The Loud Silence [FUR058LP]

In April of this year, Donato Dozzy took a set of mouth harps back to his parent’s house in the Italian countryside and set about exploring the possibilities of that most basic of instruments. The mouth harp had been calling to Dozzy ever since childhood, when he had discovered the “marranzano” on a holiday in Sicily with this parents at the tail end of the 1970s. Almost four decades later, Dozzy had begun to see in this peculiar, ancient sound, the roots of the music he’d been making and playing in clubs all these years. It was time to find out how far he could trace it all back. The Loud Silence is the result of those explorations, an accompanied deep-dive into childhood memory, social history and the roots of psychedelia. Recorded indoors and outdoors, half-way up mountains and on the edge of the Mediterranean sea, the record is meditative but also powerful. Dozzy has distilled his ideas into an incredibly intimate sound, one that invites an inverted sort of exploration, pushing you further and further into your own head. Each track maintains an inviolable central pulse, while delicate, fluttering sounds hint at vast spaces that might open up at any minute – they’re just waiting for you to connect with them. Field recordings hover below the resonating harps, adding to the mysterious atmosphere. Tracks like ‘The Loud Silence’ and ‘Downhill to the Sea’ are wrapped up in simple rhythms, their strict throb drawing you deeper and deeper into the primitive sound.

Marco Shuttle – Visione [EELP001]

Marco Shuttle releasing his first solo album ‘Visione’ on his Eerie label. ‘Visione’ is a cohesive and compact work, which draws on Shuttle’s design background to unfold an audio narrative with a strong aesthetic approach. With a more abstract sound than his club-focused records, ‘Visione’ retains a cinematic scope while maintaining a common texture of sound throughout the tracks: the detailed productions were created with mainly analogue equipment with meticulously modulated oscillators, creating tracks that are by turns psychedelic, cosmic and sinister

Donato Dozzy – Terzo Giorno [SA023]

The new imprint for Stroboscopic Artefacts: Terzo Giorno – or Third Day – by Italian producer Donato Dozzy. It is an EP of great textural dexterity, traversing the moving and the misanthropic. First track ‘Il Canto Della Maga’ presages the onset of Part II’s kick drum with mordant wind chimes, tinkling outside a house of pain and disturbance. The chimes reverberate around impressions of capacious depth – a distant factory whirring, lorries creeping in a tunnel – and that depth is incessantly, resolutely emphatic. And on that goes to ‘…Part II’, an immediate thrust into the deepest corners of techno. The third eponymous track is another made for the floor, and has a reasonably friendly upper line. The final track, ‘Sotto Ma Sotto’, comes in like a train with an alarm going off. Its machine-like run, jumpy in tone and beat, is as delicate as its kick is deep. This is a wonderful track, built on insistence and executed with precision.

Donato Dozzy & Tin Man – Acid Test 09 [ASD023]

DOZZY, Donato/TIN MAN - Acid Test 09

Veteran Italian producer Donato Dozzy and California’s Tin Man are old pals, with the latter having first remixed the former way back in 2011. Here, the two join forces for a voyage into acid-flecked late night science for Absurd’s ever excellent Acid Test series. “Test 7” sets the tone, delivering a hypnotic, heads-down journey into deep, stripped-back acid house. While it’s the EP’s most obviously floor-friendly moment, there’s something far more thrilling about the bubbling, beatless electronics of “Test 2” and “Test 3”. The latter, doused in minimal techno atmospherics, is intensely beautiful in its warm, melodic simplicity.
