VA – L.I.E.S. Presents Music For Shut-Ins [LIES041]

A collection of hits, misses, new loves, and future head scratchers running the gamut from floor ready beat tracks (Legowelt) to post chill out room bleep-hop (Daywalker & CF) to industro-wave anti beat experimentation (Svengalisghost) with no restrictions or limitations. As with last year’s American Noise compilation, disc one revists prime cuts from the nearly 30 releases the label will have released by the end of 2013, while disc two compiles unreleased tracks exclusive to this cd. A document of the immediate energy surrounding these musicians here and now, maybe one can call it club music for people who hate going to the club? or simply “Music for Shut Ins.”
Nepal – Drift [SEQ009]

And here we are, just as promised, exploring the dark corners of Nick Lapien; the man otherwise known as Metropolis. This time around, he comes back with a pair of extended cuts that veer off into heretofore unexplored terrain, relishing in detail with a sharp focus on momentum and lyricism. ‘Glow’, the A side, uses a basic 2-note sine wave bass line and a 136 BPM kick as the backdrop for a 13+ minute descent into a thicket of static and clattering modular craftiness—a pathway into the unknown through auditory hypnosis. On the flip side, ‘Rebuild’, a milder 4/4 beauty, uses a soft bass riff for its duration as shuffling synth experimentation stretches the stereo field. A long trumpet solo by Mark Nieuwenhuis casts a soothing, mournful light into the piece. Immerse yourself into the sounds and let yourself be guided, let yourself be found.
Gay Marvine – Bath House Etiquette Vol.4 [BHE004]

Gay Marvine presents 4 new reworks… A1 Burning Love – ”Burning Love Breakdown”: Juan Atkins once claimed this to be his favorite 12” from the ‘disco’ era, which would have been called progressive in Detroit. A2 Southern Freeze – ”Southern Freeez”: A natural palate cleanser, this jam is both smooth and jagged, putting together elements found in First Choice and Steely Dan in a perfect Jazz dance floor context. Pre-synth genius from John Rocca. B1 Sweet Secret – ”Frozen Faces”: Transforming the classic German Synth Pop jam into a more uptempo floorfiller. Please take her advice and dance. And dance. B2 On The EMS – ”On The Run” (Pink Floyd, 1973). Finally an easy to DJ version of this synth classic. Given a steady jacking rhythm and slowed down to 130 from the original 165, this cut will rock floors for the adventurous DJ.
Bariş K – 200 [EES002]

The second release from [Emotional] Especial sees the welcome return of Baris K. Known for his edit series of obscure Turkish Psychedelic, Rock and Disco, here he takes the producer’s chair to present “200”. Working with musicians and singers to create a completely original production. The song’s message for equality (of the sexes) highlights the bigotry and backward political and religious boundaries his country faces and acts as a siren to the current troubles. Handed to Emotional Recordings over 5 years ago but with no label to release it at that time, now we are delighted to be able to release 200’s message. The original is backed with remixed from new Romanian production duo Khidja, as well as East London’s finest, The Asphodells. Teaming up with guitarist Balabas, Romania’s Khidja turn in a deep and introspective interpretation mixing their own heavy eastern influences, while the B-side sees Weatherall and Fairplay don their Asphodells mantle for two renditions that firmly lay it before the ALFOS alter. With artwork (by Jamie Paton) highlighting the struggle for fairness and freedom in his homeland, we hope the release can be seen as a support for their tribulations and highlight the talent that lays East.
Marco Bernardi – Creme Organization mix for ICE FM Paris

“This mix has turned out pretty Dutch sounding and is exactly where my head is at at the moment. I could have put up a tracklist together for it, however some are unreleased tracks of mine, some are future Creme/R-zone shit and others I have no idea what they are as they are either demos or up and coming white labels….plus shazam needs the business”. Marco Bernardi.
VA – 100DSR Compilation [100DSR]

17 years after first releasing a cassette EP from label boss Marsel van der Wielen under his Peel Seamus guise, Delsin has now hit the landmark category number of 100. Truth is, taking into account choice re-issues and specials such as the recent house series, there have already been scores more than 100 releases. Nevertheless, in that time the Dutch label has become synonymous with a wide range of timeless sounds from house to techno to dub to electronica, nurturing and championing some of the most respected names in the scene, all of which can now be enjoyed on 5 separate, various artist vinyl EPs or one impressive two disc compilation. Far from just a collection of tracks, the 100DSR compilation has been carefully curated to tell the tale of Delsin. Each record conveys a slightly different part of the story – be it house, techno, beats or electro – yet every one is tied together by the label’s own underlying sense of desolate melancholy. Across the five EPs and complete CD collection there are tracks from newbies and old favourites alike, including Sawlin and Delta Funktionen, John Beltran and Bleak, Redshape and Convextion, Gerry Read and Claro Intelecto.
VA – Halal Prepared Vol. 2 [BOE022]

Arriving back in the spring of 2010, the first edition of Halal Prepared from London label Boe Recordings featured Iron Curtis, KiNK and Ladzinski and has remained a 12″ the more considered selectors at Juno HQ keep in their record boxes. Primed by Boe as the onset of a new V/A series, it’s taken the label three years to decide on what artists to feature on this second volume, with a great online mix series of the same name available for those craving some Halal flavoured house. Smallville graduate Arnaldo calls shotgun here with the playfully named A side hogger “A Shop That Sells Everything But At Twice The Price” filled with the sort of texturally deepness that made his Blank Slate record from earlier this year such a popular 12″. Label boss Ben Boe deems the time right to surface with his first original production and “Low Rider” fits snugly in with the refined house aesthetic the under-rated Boe Recordings has developed over the course of it’s five years of releases. French producer Anaxander rounds out Vol 2. In fine style with the deep and dubby “Dance Et Cetera” showcasing his percussive chops.

Dungeon Acid – Move [FIT009]

Expansive new material from Swedish polymath Jean-Louis Huhta’s Dungeon Acid project. Rather than setting the controls to bludgeon, JL reveals a dynamic nuance on this three-tracker. “Move”, its purpose self-evident, begins with swinging african guitar, hand drums and an organ solo before acid and modular textures seep in. “Duped” is similarly elusive – on the surface, the track consists of a bobbing acid line and muffled vocal sample, but a closer listen reveals suitcase synth textures coloring the track’s murky corners. “Astro” is noiser and more cosmic, but maintains the introspective bent. “Move”, out on Detroit’s FIT Sound, is tough and functional dance music. The acid form is stretched to contain a wealth of influence, both musical and personal.
Joey Anderson – Fall Off Face [DKMNTL015]

Its been a landmark year for Joey Anderson with a succession of superb 12″ releases and V/A appearances for labels such as Latency, Anunnaki Cartel, Syncrophone, Avenue 66 and his own Inimeg recordings all demonstrating the New Jersey-based producer’s reputation is well deserved. What better way to sign off 2013 than with a taste of what’s to come from Anderson next year, as he graces Dekmantel with this excellent 3 track 12″ ahead of a debut album for the Dutch label planned for some time in 2014. Deep beneath the frazzled, pixelated synth of lead track “Repulsive” there’s a haunting quality that informs so much of Anderson’s work, yet it still feels immediate enough to be the track that many selectors will gravitate towards. “Sky’s Blessing” acts as an introspective wedge between the classic B-Side in the making that is the hypnotically charged “Heaven’s Archer”
Laak – Obsessive Compulsive Desires [AUS006]

LAAK return on Austere with four cuts, only available on vinyl as usual. LAAK are on point with the opening track Unbalanced, an intensely gritty track. There is also a remix of an archive LAAK track by DJ Spider who completely dismantles the original to create a dark menacing remix. The B side kicks off with Mental & Emotional which continues the theme along with the more laid back track, the Rituals.

Kuba Soijka – Future Mind [SUIT004]

For this 4th release, we decided to bring you guys one of the best producer right now : Kuba Soijka. The analog man, his continued music production has focused on collaboration with the Chicago Mathematics Recordings label, which presents his more jazzy and soulful face, but not only through the ”Bright shadow of a star” EP, but from a bigger thanks to the album ”Mysterious Intrigue” released on 2×12. That release boldly displayed how Kuba can combine a bit of the artistic world in jazz and underground club sound of Detroit techno and Chicago house. This alone didn’t confirm the listeners of his music. It was also due to the fact that he presents a real and sincere vibe and is open to new and developing sounds World-Wide.
House Of Doors / Kinetic Electronix – Bicameral Mind / Astral Kin [FT019]

Future Times is proud to present Vancouver’s Mood Hut crew. House Of Doors delivers ”Bicameral Mind,” an evocative excursion between nightclub shade and inner-visions, featured here in a collaborative style with Maxmillion Dunbar on the mixdown. Drums jack metallic like hammers and bump like pillows around the lush keys. The B-side belongs to Kinetic Electronix, and their cut ”Astral Kin” which works up a sweat right away with full disco classico production before storming off in a puff of steamy Murk’d-out groove.
Headless Ghost – 77 EP [TMQ006]

Analogue rawness on the new Headless ghost. Jacking trippy house tracks! House music all night long.
Neville Watson – Hot & Heavy [DBASE002]

Neville Watson ends 2013 with a club-focussed 12” and the second in the DBA Special Editions series. Since remixing DBA003, and thereby providing one of the most requested tracks in the label’s history, it has only been a matter of time before the legendary UK producer joined the DBA camp for a full 12” release. In keeping with the remit of the Special Editions sub-label, all three tracks are …
