Quasimode – Hi Tech Jazz [JS12S079]

Japanese group Quasimode are rightly lauded by the world’s jazz and electronic music cognoscenti, with their productions flitting elegantly between the two genres. For their third release on Japanese label Flower, the foursome present the Hi Tech Jazz EP. “Hi Tech Jazz”, as you may have guessed, is a cover version of one of the finest tracks in the Underground Resistance back catalogue, bobbing along with jazzy piano keys, swooning saxophone solos and an undisputable sophistication. Once we flip over, “Seven Colors” featuring Kazufumi Kodama brings a hint of the electronic with a dub tinged rhythm in its pallet to showcase why Quasimodo are so highly regarded.

Myriadd – The Way We Were [SIG.MMXII.VII]

Two stunning slices of mercurial and heartfelt British Techno from two outstanding northern producers that cuts across the M62 corridor like a night drive into oblivion. A 10” black hit of space, lovingly designed for the dark, sweaty basements of provincial, post-industrial towns and the cold light of day in the car park of Knutsford Services.

Xosar – Nite Jam [RHX-2]

Xosar with the second release on Rush Hour. With ‘Nite Jam’ and ‘Elixir Of Dreams’ she continues to explore the boundaries of the self-dubbed ghost house genre. Late night occult tinged music for the after midnight freaks and sunshine shy infidels. A descendant from a Bengali aerospace engineer and Cherokee psychic, she was born in San Jose California, raised in San Francisco and is now residing in a quiet seaside village on the North Sea. Here she spends most of her time wandering through dark forests, channeling the energy of nature and primal forces contained within symbols, and using these energies to produce a sensual and exotic blend of deep Detroit-style techno and leftfield ghost house.

Heatsick – Convergence [RHD-004SICK]

The enigmatic Heatsick’s CasioTones evolve over this EP with the inclusion of accompanying drum machine (something we haven’t heard in his productions before) – four focused tracks that express the overload from stimuli and expansion from time space compression.

Donnie Tempo – Systems On EP [MAMSW003]

The mysterious Donnie Tempo has been producing house music for over twenty years. His first release as Donnie Tempo was back in 2001 on Larry Heard’s Alleviated Records, demonstrating his old school acid inspired productions. Donnie Tempo unleashes the ”Systems On EP” due for release in September on MAMSW. The EP drops two previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1989-91 and one new production ”TCB”, that shows that the original Chicago house sound still runs deep. Finally, Donnie has found a new home to release the uncharted authentic house jamz that he’s created.

MarcMan – In Trecere EP [BCR026]

Romanian new talent MarcMan is now set to join the Bass Culture family as he presents his debut release for the label the “In Trecere” ep. Portable – A Process [PLAYRJC021]

Alan Abrahams is capable of evoking the spirits of traditional deep house songs without getting lost in nostalgia, manufacturing boring carbon copies or a longing for a past that never was. The first release for Live at Robert Johnson is all that: haunting, melancholic yet optimistic, as deep as it is driving and most of all mesmerising. “A Process” features all his great sound signature moves, comes with an acappella for brave DJs and a serious Flutramental on top of it all for the faint at heart.

NCW – Pharoah And The Goose [APT003]

NCW returns to the fold for Apartment’s 4th release. Pharoah And The Goose is a tale of 2 sides; 10 minute-plus tranced out jazz and techno explorations meeting somewhere in deepest space, most likely a little lost. Go forth and discover…

J.T.C – Beats in Space [SHK005]

J.T.C. with a new release on Shaddock. Originally produced for Tim Sweeny’s Beats in Space radio show the title track was heard in one of J.T.C’s dj sets during a night out in Berlin and was signed to Shaddock on the spot. Heavy on the synths with a stirring bass-line and a driving 808. Stepping up for his first ever remix duty is MadTeo of Meakusma, who added his unique signature of twisted, hypnotic left-field house, aptly titling his re-work ‘Mad in Space’. On the flip J.T.C showcases his more melodic side as well as his versatility as a producer. The First Night Cycle, feat. Ellis Monk is a metabolic track clocking in at eight minutes developing over time, all the while under-laid with James T. Cottonis ceaseless heavy grooves. Love Canopy And Vessels finishes this little gem in the best Detroit/ Chicago house fashion.

Homework – Confessing [VIS224]

HOMEWORK - Confessing

Homework, the duo born and raised in Amsterdam’s Concerto record store, with their debut release on 2020 Vision. They deliver another great EP of deep and distinct house grooves built around some choice samples and classic drums and pads.  The lead track ‘Confessing’ is built around an old soul acapella that really raises the track head and shoulders over its peers.  On the flip ‘C’mon (start moving)’ again plays with some classy samples, but in a more subtle fashion, arranging them around some slinky synth melodies and some slick old skool drums.
