Spoiled Drama – This Is Our Mission [F//006]
Spoiled Drama reemerges exhibiting their darker side on “This is Our Mission”, their debut on the label embodiment of Berlin’s Fleisch collective. The five track EP exhibits a unique range and dexterity, blurring lines between the realms of techno, EBM, acid and electro with a touch of maladjusted pop and post-punk. From the anxious beat and shimmering tones of “Another Death Experience” to the ritualistic war drums and heavily distorted vocals of “Kisses Are Out of Fashion”, expect to feel dizzied, unnerved, yet beckoned to move. The eponymous track closes out the EP in an undeniably Drexciyan fashion, low-pitched vocals emerging from watery depths in lush sweeping pads and dissonant melodies. A mission accomplished with style.
J.C. & Kastil – No Spiritual Surrender [CBR010]
J.C aka Jose Cabrera and Kastil collaborate and come with the exciting results. A fresh blend of fierce techno, ambience, industrial, noise and found sounds recordings. A full length captivating album that pushes and pulls you through an edgy and engaging world of sound. Part 1 mixes up trance-inducing deep techno with punishing drum programming. Synths have a life of their own as they whip and snap about and bring a post apocalyptic sense of foreboding. Some tracks are abstract modular gurgles and others are lo-fi, heavily textured affairs that are beguiling beautiful. The use of modular synths lends the whole thing an unpredictable and analogue feel that makes is bristle and brim with life throughout. Part 2 focuses on more suspensory ambient sounds. It means tracks zone you out and get you thinking, with distant melodies drifting next to warm solar winds. When drums do appear they are deep down below and dubbed out affairs that unfold slowly.

Autumns is the solo project of Christian Donaghey, from Derry, Northern Ireland. 2017 sees the eagerly anticipated release of his debut full length record “Suffocating Brothers”. On “Suffocating Brothers” Autumns presents a resolute nine track culmination of the fierce audacity that has come to define and distinguish the project since an assured first emergence in 2013. Written and produced over the course of six months, between July and December 2016, it’s an album that comes as a momentous and devastating fulfilment of what the Autumns project has outlined with increasingly ruthless intent over the last few years.

‘Redeemer’ is the brutally seductive debut album by Phase Fatale, a key player in the recent charge of EBM and post punk-informed industrial techno infecting ‘floors from his home city, NYC to his DJ residency at Berghain. In Dominick Fernow’s Hospital Productions, Phase Fatale finds a fitting home for his personalised brand of clinical, rictus rhythm programming and searing synth and guitar lines, adding a vital streak of black and blue electric energy to the legendary label in its 20th year of cultish operation. In seven parts, ‘Redeemer’ follows the direct, his deeply personal realisation of weaponised sonics, upholding a strong tradition of techno as a prophetic exercise or ritual to gird dancers and listeners for the onset of future war. It presents Phase Fatale as an ultimate emissary of electronic violence and domination in the process, steeling the limbic system and muscle memory thru a fine-tuned disciplinarian approach to pharmacokinetics and biomechanics.
Morah – Voltage EP [MA012]
The twelfth Modal Analysis release brings Athens based Morah to the frontline of the label’s roster, along with the New York based, Vapauteen on the remix duties. Voltage EP carries 3 original tracks by the Greek electronic music producer, along with a very special reintrpretation by the American artist, also known as Shawn O’Sullivan. Aesthetics vary from slow and hypnotic rhythms to driving EBM riffs and harshly distorted percussions. Morah approaches the sound of Modal Analysis while maintaining his distinct charachter as a producer, using here field recordings and processed vocals.

Third release Mosaique Records MSQ003 is a dark electronic music experience, which includes new edit and cut by German musician and producer Mick Wills. Side A- super rare, almost unknown track by a Russian industrial project DMT (Dmitry Tolmatsky/1970-2009), grabbed by Mosaique label owner Alexander Moralez from DIY audio-cassette. Thereafter it had some edits on Mick Wills studio. Side B- Mick’s cut on never released track “Flexion” by Jasss.

Once again the Austin based artist taps into the outer edges of the electronic world falling in a grey area somewhere between Muslimgauze, creeped tribal electronics or the tense beat experiments on Seico Corp Recordings. his is downed tree split open wire music, live to the touch.. free form open ended recorded music from one of the most interesting and best kept secrets in American electronics these days. Unending tension with every turn, this is not a record to miss.
Foreign – Redemption [EFAE004]
Intense drum arrangements, distorted bass lines and warm synth melodies mark the aesthetic of Foreign’s debut EP on Eye For An Eye Recordings. ‘Redemption’ reveals a punk approach regarding his ways of crafting music. From the non-conformist ‘Ignorance Amongst Us’, to the hopeful ‘Hope’ theme, ‘Redemption’ is a non-spoken manifest to a society on the verge of collapse.
Jasss – Weightless [IDEAL160]
Jasss makes her head and body-turning album debut with Weightless, an absorbingly stark and spiky set of industro-dub concerns riddled with heavy inspiration from African rhythms, jazz and concrète electronics. iDEAL give Jasss room to consolidate and expand her grizzled dancefloor structures to a full length episode that brutally dovetails with Joachim Nordwall and co’s unforgiving but compelling take on contemporary noise and industrial musics.
Vitor Hublot – KESS 06 [KESS06]
Former masked techno crusader Adam Rivet started the Kess Kill imprint a couple of years ago, to showcase some lesser known talents from the ’80s scene in Europe. French producer Guy Clerbois began his musical career by transforming sounds: creating rhythms with scratched vinyl records and altering their playing speeds plus detuning his guitar. In the mid eighties, he began what would become the very concept of Vitor Hublot, making shifted reworks of existing ones. All compositions originally issued on the ‘185 Millions De Francophones Et Moi, Et Moi, Et Moi…’ LP via his own Psoria Discs in 1986.
VA – Kale Plankieren: Dutch Cassette Rarities 1981 – 1985 Vol. 1 [KH009]
Featuring a wide range of artists (Das Ding, Plus Instruments, De Fabriek for a start!) from the Amsterdam Fetisj scene and cities such as Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, and Zwolle. It gives a glimpse into the artistic DIY music movement that was growing extensively outside of mainstream circles. The beautifully printed record sleeve was designed by Steele Bonus. It includes liner notes (in English and Dutch) that paint a great picture of the context where these bands and artists lived and breathed. It is compiled by Mark van de Maat and mastered by Rude 66.
Trenton Chase – Deadlock [JUNE012]
Trenton Chase returns on June Records with a bold solo LP marking his departure from the sound of his previous releases on the imprint. For his first album attempt, Trenton embarks on the search for everything and manages to encapsulate the whole essence of the June Records ethos within 43 minutes of music. Although initially not planned as an album, Deadlock was conceived organically as it only took a few months for its completion during the artist’s most abundant 2017 studio spring sessions. This body of work transcends formulaic attempts to showcase a very refreshing and uncompromising take on synth music. Chase followed a crude approach to songwriting, rehearsing and improvising live until the best take would eventually become the final track.
