Le Chocolat Noir – Transform EP [FRV020]

LE CHOCOLAT NOIR - Transform EP

Frigio Records is on the road again with Le Chocolat Noir. The Croatian artist, known for Disco Panonia and his work as Honored Matres, is no stranger to Frigio, having featured on All Stars Vol 1 in 2014. “Transform EP” is introduced by the industrial mental sounds of “Greedy Pets” which brings a new name to the roster as June delivers his interpretation of it. A grimy wave edge is pursued by the Greek machine man for a driving take. The original staggers into being. Drums slip and bass rumbles in a tense and terse piece of gritty music. Then Le Chocolat Noir offers the dark and looming “N.E.T.”. Blackened lyrics are sampled as thick bars of synth and licks of acid make for a menacing curtain fall on side A. On the flip side, the steely claps and burbling bass are rinsed in metal for the gleaming EBM infused “Doing Dishes” with vocals ghost beneath the currents. Following up, vocals ghost beneath the currents, vocals picked up by Colombia’s Cute Heels as the electronic savant debuts on Frigio for a simmering aquatic remix.

VA – Five Years On Parole: What’s Happening [UV030]

Believe it or not but Uncanny Valley looks back on five years of releasing records this summer. Instead of just turning into the typical Greatest hits-routine the label heads Albrecht, Carl, Conrad and Philipp decided to look back and forth. So, besides a record that unleashes four tracks from the vaults of these five years there will be a record with new material too. Here’s “Uncanny Valley: Five Years On Parole – what’s happening”. Tracks by Chinaski, Derive (Sneaker and June), Panthera Krause and  Iron Curtis.

June – Dominion [SUCTION029]

Suction Records is pleased to present “Dominion”, the debut full-length LP by June. June is the solo project of Tsampikos Fronas, originally from Greece, and now based in Berlin, Germany. “Dominion” is focused on June’s synthwave sound, utilizing hardware step sequencers to sync and control his arsenal of classic drum machines and synthesizers including Roland’s SH-101, TR-606 and Juno-60, and the minimal synth percussion staple, the Korg KR-55. The romanticism and elegance of early ’80s synth pop is clearly evident, not only in the production and instrumentation of the music, but in the artwork and song titles. Even more prominent is the influence of modern minimal synth master Sean McBride of Martial Canterel and Xeno & Oaklander, who’s sophisticated classicist sequencer composition looms largely over the material on “Dominion,” minus McBride’s distinctive vocals. Save for the gorgeous and meditative “Queen Of Flowers” cuts that end both sides of the LP, the music on “Dominion” is driving, danceable synthwave that references the past while maintaining a thoroughly modern edge.

June – Golden Era [JUNE003]

Cover art - June: Golden Era

A set of minimal synth recordings, captured live with in-studio performance. These pieces are a tribute to the golden era of electronic music that mainly emerged in Europe between 1978-1984 and is often described as minimal electronics, synthpop, synthwave etc. Sinister melodies, shadows and frost making up a haunting, dystopian sonic environment. Drum machines driving step sequencers and mono-synths, hand played polyphonic synthesisers, all enveloped by the industrial sound of the spring reverb.
