The Romanian duo Le Brouf presents “Pattern” a 11 songs LP released by Diffuse Reality’s sublabel Periphylla Records. The band goes through several musical genres and styles, from post punk to alternative rock with electro and industrial influences. Composed of Edward Nicoara and Mircea Floruț, Le Brouf was founded in 2017 in Oradea, Romania.
The Collection Artaud is a record label based in Berlin and run by Yu Miyashita. After a year of drought, the label is back with a release from Romanian drum & bass experimentalist DYL.
groove 15 is the final release in a series dedicated to attempts to combine ambient with footwork and 160bpm. The person responsible for closing this three-cassette series is Romanian producer Eduard Costea, known as DYL. In his work, he creates minimalist drum & bass structures, which he combines with illustrative music and atmospheric ambient. However, he does not limit himself to these aesthetics, freely changing tempos and moods.
MTLP0012 ‘Transmissions’ will be divided into two separate releases – Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1, presented here, is released in June, while Part 2 will be released in the 2nd half of September 2023. The album was written and produced by Khidja over the last several years. Part 1 consists of 5 gems showcasing the diversity in the Romanian duo’s production – from shuffle to slow mow, to ‘chugging’ to new age 4th world…
Already in the second quarter of the year, the time it’s well passed to have a look back at what happened in terms of music production by Romanian artist in last year and what to expect in 2023.
2022 was pretty dry and chill year for the Romanian producers, with not many impressing achievements. We are still revolving around the same few figures, with very little coming forward besides the rominimal scene, but 2023 is looking more promising.
Andrew Red Hand is back on Chiwax with his 3rd release. Nostalgia EP is a very personal and intimate release for Andrew.
Eduard Costea aka DYL is a Romania-based (born in Deva & living in Cluj-Napoca) experimental producer. He lands on Nous’klaer with Fjord: a deep dive that starts out soothing and gets deceptively heavy and hypnotic as you swim further offshore – filled with immense echoes that can feel eerie and comforting all at once.
Khidja continue to develop their tripped out vision with their first full EP for Hivern since 2019’s ‘Impossible Holiday’. In ‘Something In The Water’ the Romanian duo presents three new tracks that drift between genres and moods through open minded studio experimentation. “The Future Has Disappeared” and “Back To Vid” rely on contrasting sound palettes and a smart use of the stereo field to build up tension while ‘Science of Ghosts’ is an expansive number of galactic electro-funk. The 12″ features a stripped out mystical remix by Azu Tiwaline while the digital release includes two extra oddball dancefloor cuts.
With a long overdue, we finally managed to find the time to compile this list, so with no further comments here is the best electronic music created by Romanian artists in 2021, according to our opinion.

Composed of Edward Nicoara and Mircea Florut, Le Brouf was founded in 2017 in Oradea, Romania. After almost 2 years of experimentation, Le Brouf took its final form towards the end of 2019 when they started working on their first album titled ‘Charade’, self-released in April 2020, followed by ‘Counter Measures LP’ which came out on January 24th, also self-released.

There is a place in this universe called Ploiești. A former industrial city, grey, totally colorless. This is where the story begins for A Dublu, a project founded in 2012 by Ardeleanu Bogdan and Andu Simion, when they created musical sequences inspired by Cameliei or Vlasiei areas. Geodesic 003, or Polytraffic EP is a collection of tracks suitable for different moments in a clubbing night, acid textures, warm synths for warm-up but also techno directions perfect for more aggressive sessions or more alert bpm.
