Francisco returns to Slow Motion for the second in our of retro-dance-floor series; Linea Beat volume 2. Drum beats are rolling and lazers are scanning for a double a-side of vintage yet futuristic discoid funk. Relentless hand claps, ghostly Italo voices and killer bass lines that comes on like the B-52’s of your alternative-universe wet dream. This is the sound of a sweaty cellar at 2am on a Monday morning with a uniquely Italian twist.
Since donning the Payfone guise, former Kitty Bronx and Leon Lace man Phil Passera has yet to put a foot wrong. Both 2013 debut “International Smark” and last year’s “Paradise” – the latter for Phil South’s Golf Channel imprint – were both superb exercises in re-imagining New York boogie for the house generation. He’s at it again here, with “Quarantine” offering the perfect blend of jaunty electrofunk synths, early New York garage dubbiness, effortlessly soulful vocals, rubbery disco bass and a dash of Giorgio Moroder. Flipside “Padre Pray For Us” is an altogether deeper, woozier proposition, with blazed drums, hazy Rhodes keys and fluid synths being joined by a killer trumpet solo – the kind that makes you want to close your eyes and just drift away.
Picking up the studded gauntlet thrown down by such luminaries as Heldon, Goblin, Zombi and Simon Boswell comes Glaswegian duo Ubre Blanca. Finally we’ve got “Thrashing Truth” which doesn’t leave much to the imagination; with its no nonsense EBM bassline and harsh industrial rhythms.

All the tracks on this release here sounding reminiscent of early nineties school Chicago house and all in rather convincing fashion.
TLIM SHUG, a new artist dwelling in cassette tape sounds, 303 drums, and thick pads, he doesn’t fail to deliver atmosphere and capture just the right feel with his tracks. With a unique name and even more unique sound, this is an artist you should definitely keep your eye on.
Vagon Brei, aka Victor Ramos is back with a full length CD album on Photic Fields. A project inspired by and dedicated to Richard Feynman: the scientist, the teacher, the explorer, the visionary and the raconteur. His scientific curiosity, zest for life and eccentric personality were tried to be captured in music, produced by a true admirer of the man. “The Bush is a homage to the place where I have lived for the last decade (Askew Road). The Askew Road itself is slowly changing so I wanted to document all the places that play a big part in mine and my families lives before they eventually get sold for more flats or Tescos. First up was Peckings Studio 1 record shop, which has been on this stretch of road since the 1960s. Next up is the mighty Sun pub which became a local talking point when they sold the place because a sign sat in the window that announced “This Bup Is Close”.”
D3 Elements continues its carefully curated run with a new EP from Berlin based Italians, Hinode. Featuring four cuts of tough deep house. Opener ‘State to State’ is a raw, punchy house track with jazzy chords injecting some real soul into the physical beats. Rasping synths and rainy melodies have a hint of the old school about them and ensure that dance floors will be in raptures. ‘Endless World’ is more spacious, with a drunken acid sounding bassline roaming beneath a nicely mechanical groove. It’s one to make you stomp, and so is b-side opener ‘Shades of Grey’ with its bombastic, kicking drums, twinkling melodies and lazy chords. Despite being a sweat inducing house banger, plenty of warmth and musicality remains. Lastly, ‘Memory Alpha’ hurries along with muddled voices, icy hi hats and a flurry of rubbery kicks and squelchy acid stabs. It’s beautifully authentic house music that takes subtle cues from the best of Chicago and Detroit.
