VA – Daytime High EP [12AM]

In the beginning of the summer of 2019, AM returns with four exotic edits and reworks to dance to on grass. Solima is a pitched down lush and spatial Afro gem that will cause instant euphoria on any dance floor, followed by a faster and uplifting African jam called Ali Baba. Both have that late 80’s synthetic vibe we dig so much.On the flip there are two tracks which are constructed upon respectively an Egyptian and a Turkish sample. Badaouiah reminds of Carl Craig’s edit of Congo Man, builds up slowly and gets highly hypnotic and deep, while the second track Mustapha rolls out a quirky rhythm pattern with a hysteric Turkish clarinet sample.

VA – Family Matters Vol.2 [AAL010]

The second chapter in the Family Matters serie marks the 10th release on the Belgian record label 9300 Records. Via electro, through house and breakbeat, all the way to New Beat, established members offer you their view on the different aspects in the spectrum of electronical music. It’s a nostalgic reference to the past, through the eyes of the present. Alessandro Parisi makes his first contribution to the label with an ominous New Beat influenced track, while Betonkust joins him on the dark B-side with his well known non compromising electro. A-side consists of dance-floor approved electro/house tracks of both Intimacy & Innershades and a sober, yet sophisticated anthem by the hand of Robert D.

Amato & Adriani – Présence Du Future [MNQ137]

Mannequin Records presents an outstanding collaboration between Michel Amato (The Hacker) and Alessandro Adriani. What began as a B2B DJ set between two like-minded, seasoned veterans organically developed into a full force enthralling studio project and live set. Amato & Adriani is the new found project by Michel Amato and producer and Mannequin Records label head honcho Alessandro Adriani. The collaboration fuses contemporary ideas with the duo’s shared love for electro, EBM, Post-punk, Wave and the natural synergy to be found in the creative moment. Each artists production style and philosophy, when combined, elevates something new in one and other. The result, an innovative hybrid of classic sounds fueled by two creative forces working in pure synchronisation.

Native Cruise – Desert Theory [PSGG002]

Inspired by warm climates, shaped in a rainy city. Native Cruise’s Desert Theory opener Late Nights is a relaxed jam filled with crispy drum-machine percussion and new age-ish pads with delicate nature sounds in the background. The energy rises towards the title track, a marching rhythm characterised by chugging wooden drums and floaty pan flutes. Bermuda Clouds brings you on a shore presenting a dreamy 4 to the floor session with an FM bass line, atmospheric pads and a wave of ocean sounds. The journey ends with Whispers which reminds of an imaginary 80s digital world vaguely influenced by the aesthetic of labels like Innovative Communication or Les Folies Art.

Mark E – Shelter [PR20]

Ten years and twice as many records have come out since Public Release shared its inaugural 12-inch with the world, and it feels fitting to mark the occasion of its twentieth with new work by a steady partner in crime, Mark E. The English Midlander, known as a peddler of classic house laced with the unexpected—sprinklings of frisky Italo and wiggly disco here, splatterings of taut techno and woozy dub there —made his P.R. debut with 2016’s steamy industrial chugger, Sky Horn, and has also been a frequent remixer for the Northern Californian label.

Terrence Dixon – Vertical Hold EP [30EXO006]

The prescient sound of an abstract never-coming future built from the everlasting commitment to the boundless experimentation. The prolific one-of-a-kind Terrence Dixon is back to 30D Records. “Vertical Hold EP”, holds on his unlimited creative scheme: on the basis of the Detroit sound, he transforms that legacy in a fully refurbished approach wherein the true creativity smashes any possible stereotype. Every track leads us to the unexpected. From the skillful Dixon’s mind, any sonic universe is possible. The straight low pad of “Due Process” flows on a kaleidoscopic background, energized by a danceable bass drum. Second cut, “Vertical Hold”, is a wicked amazing sequential madness from a dreamlike dance floor. “Transition Area” seeks and finds out the depth, a mental mantra to disappear in. The rhythmic and mechanical arpeggiator of “Total Vehicle” drive us to a dancing frenetic hypnosis. And, finally, “Assembly Building”, unfolds a fine-draw and imaginative minimalistic groove.

The Abstract Eye – What’s Real Anymore [DX-3]

Although he is known to have an incredibly wide range of stylistic approaches, he is probably best known for the music he makes for the dance floor. His classic releases Cool Warm Divine (Valentine Connexion) and GB Presents: The Abstract Eye (Eglo) have solidified a unique analog electronic sound of his own as The Abstract Eye that he further explores and expands on in these six pieces. This record displays a diverse range of emotions, textures, rhythms and colors, sounding like it could have been made any time, past, present or future. While simultaneously staying open to the ever-changing world of music and also observing the current record industry in which many factors besides the quality of the music itself seem to take precedence, The Abstract Eye asks the question, what’s real anymore? For him, it comes down to the feelings this music evokes. That is as real as it gets.

Low Tape – Reality Zone EP [NRNG008]

Nerang Recordings makes an exciting return with a debut from Russian producer Low Tape. Spanning blistering Detroit-tinged electro through italo-indebted melodies, ‘Reality Zone’ makes for a versatile 6 tracker that does damage on both sweaty dancefloors and early night build-ups. Straight out of the gate, opener “Funky Detune” weaves metallic and acid sequences that bend at the seams while an electro backbone drives the heat. The EP is full of those kind of highlights and special bangers like “Dangerous Groove” and “East Dancer” show the clear force that is Low Tape’s ability to summon smooth and slippery soundscapes that exude serious grit and personality.

Move D – Building Bridges [AUSLP010]

Move D’s ‘Building Bridges’ is David Moufang’s latest studio album. Close friends and long time collaborators, Thomas Fehlmann, Fred P, Juju & Jordash, D-Man & rEAGENZ all feature alongside Benjamin Brunn. Building Bridges was recorded at reSource, Heidelberg between 1999-2019 except “One Small Step…” which was recorded at Thomas Fehlman’s Space in Berlin. This album initially started out as an entry for the Inside Out series on Aus – based around the idea of collaborations with his nearest and dearest but when David sent me the music and wrote a few new tracks there was such a cohesive, timeless feel to it as a body of work I decided that it had to be a stand alone artist album. These tracks have been written over a twenty year period and involve 6 people but it sounds like it was written in one sitting. This is testament to David’s creative aesthetic and the closeness of the relationship with his collaborators as a common feeling of warmth and smudged soul oozes out of every poor of this record.

Simoncino – Timezones [CR12-100]

Chicago house and Detroit techno devotee Simoncino is a master of authentic analogue wizardry. The HotMix Records boss joins the dots between the past and the future with his deep and dreamlike tracks and put out an album on Creme Organization back in 2015, and has remained hugely prolific ever the years. Here he explores a full range of sounds, starting with the slow and mysterious deep house of Housetime, which has beautiful synth patterns unfolding throughout. Two mixes of It Up explore ambient with a pained vocal loop and rubbery bass, and a loose and cosmic dub house cut that Larry Heard would love. On the flip, the roomy Tribu has dreamy Italo bird calls and glistening synths paired with punchy rubber kicks that set your mind wandering and Una Notte Con Michelle is expansive deep house with drums that march, tinkling bells and a squelchy bassline that is perfect for the intimate back rooms. Digi bonus Timezones rounds things out with smoky and atmospheric deep house that is filled with deft little details that occupy your mind as much as your feet.

Stereociti – Constant Turbulent Riot [GR034]

Stereociti releases his most defying EP to date. Beautifully mysterious and brightly dark at the same time, this new record puts him on the front seat as one of the most exciting japanese producers of current electronic scene. This is yet another exploratory angle of his already unmistakably edgy production for labels like Mojuba or artless.

LostSoundBytes – Rusty Tractor [DMRD006]

LostSoundBytes throws us by force into the deep end of a poorly lubricated engine with this 5 tracks mini album. Hear the dirty mechanical rumble of an old abandoned tractor that LostSoundBytes has just hot wired and driven off with, leaving road kill on his way. Driving fast or slow, you may ask. Who cares ! For our beneluxian shaman puts the pedal to the metal destroying the speakers on the way with Rusty Tractor. A certain vision of combustion by our mechanic LostSoundBytes : saturated rhythms on beaten up drum machines dragging us between Brussels and Paris.

After a sabbatical period, Roberto Auser makes a comeback with his analogical machinery with the exquisite mini-album called “Chaos Never Dies” on Femur. In this record he explores a broad range of sounds from minimal-electro to acid with a touch of improvisation from his particular perspective based in roughness, rhythm and immediacy.

Collin Gorman Weiland – In My Shattered Vase [DKA020EP]

DKA presents the new 12″ EP from Collin Gorman Weiland, “In My Shattered Vase.” Weiland’s new offering features 3 originals from the Minneapolis native, a journey through textured murk, melancholic musings and deranged rhythmic euphoria, distorted drums clash against harsh tones to create an environment both familiar and completely alien, grounded by Collin’s deep, dead pan spoken word. For the b-side, Mick Wills revisits Collin’s track from our previously released Strategies Against The Body vol. II LP compilation. An amazing yet utterly un-DJ-friendly track Mick has wrestled with and wrangled into an extended late night dance floor slayer. This is followed by Pyramid Club’s reinterpretation of “Ballet Of Pose” from the A-side, stripping it back to it’s most percussive elements and propelling it forward with a steadily snowballing momentum.

Al Lover – Dark Matter Discothéque / Mark E. Moon [HNR030]

Hoga Nord Rekords have had the opportunity to work with Al Lover twice before during the last four years and now it’s time for the next step in the relationship between them, this time with the 7” single ‘Dark Matter Discotheque / Mark E. Moon’. In these tracks, Lover’s influences mainly stems from a decadent eighties New York or Paris and you can almost smell the heavy perfume mixed with indoors smoking get the feeling of sitting in a room with mirror walls.

Natural Sugars – Zombie Jungle EP [FBR067]

Futureboogie continue to shine a spotlight on Bristol’s ever-burgeoning music scene, with an EP from Natural Sugars, backed with a firing remix from accomplished Lithuanian DJ, Manfredas. Having previously cropped up on Glasgow’s Invisible, Inc. label, Tim Oxley Smith’s Natural Sugars project serves up some top-drawer sunshine vibes on the ‘Zombie Jungle’ EP. The title track pulls down the sun visor for an exotic and alluring mix of tropical beats and proto-house elements, whilst a dubbed out mood is cast over the chugging Balearica of ‘The Soothsayer’. Manfredas has cut his teeth on the DJ circuit to become a most in demand selector on the leftfield circuit, and makes a rare foray into remix territory with a spicy version of ‘Zombie Jungle’. Thick bass synth over charging Italo beats, a touch of cowbells and a ‘hands in the air’ inducing breakdown, what’s not to love! ‘Sarsen Trail’ rounds things off with hovering keys, subtle acid and chorused guitar licks over a chugging rhythm.
