Florian Kupfer – Unmasked EP [UL011]

Florian Kupfer lands on Urban Legend Records label with Unmasked EP. The work explores the human condition through the symbol of the spider, representing the duality between creation and destruction, patience and control. Like a spider’s web, the EP weaves complex emotional and psychological connections, guiding the listener on an introspective journey where tensions between light and shadow, the hidden and the revealed, are revealed, in search of inner truth.

Corps Diplomatique – Dans Ta Nuit [DE327]

French coldwave act Corps Diplomatique comes to Dark Entries with ‘Dans Ta Nuit’, a collection of tracks recorded between 1984-1987. Founded in Marseille by Olivier Aubin, Marie-Eve Bensussan, Patrick Loubet and Nicolas Pélissier, Corps Diplomatique remain shrouded in mystery. The band only released one 7” during their time, 1988’s Paradis I, in addition to appearing with three tracks on the La Muse Vénale compilation, a holy grail for devotees of the French coldwave. Dans Ta Nuit brings us nine tracks from this cult band, seven of which have never before appeared on vinyl. These cuts are raw and unembellished but not at the expense of dramatic tension. Tracks like “Sin of Flesh” and “Eros Phobia” deliver the kind of high octane mix of despair and ecstasy that coldwave enthusiasts crave.

Dina Summer – Girls Gang LP [IDI021]

Berlin-based synth-wave band Dina Summer returns with their highly anticipated second album ‘Girls Gang’ via Iptamenos Discos. Donning a decadent “dark disco meets EBM” sound, Dina Summer is a collaborative project formed of electro-punk band Frittenbude member Kalipo and dark disco DJ & producer duo Local Suicide. The new album is a versatile collection of 11 tracks that delve into themes such as empowerment („No More Tears“ & „Girls Gang“), outsiderhood („Alien“ & „Zombie“), impermanence („Promise featuring Curses and Joshua Murphy“), nostalgia („Halkidiki“), and relationships („Nothing To Hide“ & „Hypnotized“). While their debut album was characterized by its club-centric sound, drawing from Italo disco and ’90s electro influences, this new release explores a richer palette of new wave, post-punk, and synth-pop.

SIIE – Cité Lunaire [CTM]

“Cité Lunaire” seamlessly blends EBM and synthpop to create a sonic journey between dream and reality. The lyrics, both poetic and introspective, explore the desire to escape the “chains of existence” and lose oneself in a parallel reality. The dense electronic production, with cold synths and powerful beats, enhances the feeling of drifting and intensity. Accompanied by an electro remix by Panthera, this version adds a dynamic touch with punchy beats. “Cité Lunaire” invites both introspection and escape, through a modern and mesmerizing soundscape.

The Egyptian Lover – 1987 LP [DMSR-8703]

Egyptian Lover has been kicking out the jams now for a full four decades. His famously hardware-driven sound is pure bay-popping perfection and has seen him define and redefine electro many times over. Staying true to his signature 80s west-coast electro sound, his new album 1987 echos classics of his like ‘Egypt, Egypt’ and Thebes of them all, ‘I Need a Freak’, by blending signature Roland 808 beats with Kraftwerk and hip-hop influences. Omar S – Something Real [FXHE-AOS891]

Omar S, the FXHE label boss, wastes no time in dropping heat this New Year as he once again hooks up with vocalist Desire for this latest house gem. Up first is ‘Something Real’, in the classic Omar S mould of laying down a deep, heartfelt drum line and then topping it with a mad emotive vocal hook that is filled with r&b goodness and joined by the most subtle cosmic chord motifs. ‘Hard Leaf Rag’ follows next, so raw it will make your ears tickle with its busted drums and serrated stabs. Then flip it over for ‘Conant Leaf Rag’, which pairs warbling synth sounds with dusty hi-hats and tight kicks for a nice, full mind and body workout.

Kosmologic Research Society – Inner | Outer [DM10]

The story of “Inner | Outer” begins in 2015, when two members of Berlin bass combo X.A.Cute and Jerusalem’s psych grooves expert, Markey Funk, set up a spontaneous jam session in the basement of an ex-spring factory building. The outcome of that meeting – now known as “Aquasonic Research Society” (Som Recordings, 2020) – was so inspiring for the three that they determined to record again the next time Markey is in Berlin. Eventually, two more sessions took place in consecutive years at Oberbaumstübchen, overlooking river Spree, U-Bahn tracks and Universal Music headquarters. The change of location also led them to depart from the bubbling aquatic motives towards darker mesmerizing soundscapes that explore themes and mysteries of deep outer space and the human body (sometimes described as “inner space”).

Robert Hood – Internal Empire LP (30 Years Anniversary Edition) [TRESOR027LPX]

This album holds an undeniable significance, serving as a cornerstone of both techno and Tresor’s legacy. On Internal Empire Robert Hood perfected his signature sound already present on Waveform Transmission 2, marking a pivotal moment in techno’s history. It elevates its maker as master, sharing an irrefutable singular magic, sounding as present and indispensable as when first created. To understand this work fully is to stand back and celebrate its impact. Originally released in 1994, the album marks a point of transition for Robert Hood moving on from his previous collaborations within Underground Resistance. Robert Hood advanced, uncovering the power of true minimalism. Deep soul through a simplicity that showed how much could be done with so little. The devastating rhythms of this album forge the unmatched spirit of this sound, influencing generations to come.
