Norm Talley – I Tried To Told Cha [FXHE-NT#2]
Omar-S – Desert Eagle [AOS902]
New Omar-S 12″ on his own FXHE Records. Side A, “Desert Eagle” is the type of melodic track that just makes you feel good, with floaty keys over a consistent bass line to keep the feet moving. On the flip is, “Cry Me A River” – a simple yet effective house track that relies on 909 drums, a dusty vocal sample, and strings to put you over the edge.
Omar-S – The Best [AOS4000]
The Best Omar S, newest album simply reflects the singer, songwriter/producer’s brilliant career- always vogue, forever moving forward, yet transcending trend to find its place among the classics. The 11 selections gracing album, produced by Omar S is just what you never expect from a modern entertainment legend.
Mark King – Ever Forward [FXHE-MDK]
Mark King debut on FXHE records. Quality Detroit house and techno. Comes with an Omar S. remix.
Omar S – Annoying Mumbling Alkaholik [AOS000]
Omar S returns to the wax 12” after a slew of heavy-hitting double packs. 3 tracks, raw yet smooth like an uncooked sausage.
Omar S – FXHE 10 Year Compilation Mix Part 2 [AOS2004]
Omar-S – Romancing The Stone [AOS1975]
Alex Omar Smith drops another bomb via his always-solid FXHE label. True Detroit Techno, blazing House jams and prickly acid cuts, as always in the inimitable Omar S mould.
Omar S – FXHE 10 Year Compilation Mix Part 1 [AOS2004]
It’s been ten years since outspoken Detroit house legend Omar-S launched his FXHE label, which is no mean feat for a DIY label. To celebrate the fact, he’s decided to put together the first in a series of mix CDs highlight the much-loved imprints vast discography. Entitled simply 1, the 74 minute vinyl only set takes an entertaining saunter through the label’s bulging back catalogue, showcasing a range of well-known cuts (“Here’s Your Trance, Now Dance” etc) and what the producer calls “some shit [fans] might have slept on”. Predictably, it makes for a sumptuous and suitably groovy blend, moving between bespoke soulful house (Omar-S’s much-loved “Sex”), deep Detroit futurism (Omar-S and O B Ignitt’s “Wayne County Hill Cops Part 2”), dreamy jack tracks (Jason Fine’s “Jack Yo Bodda”) and tactile tech-house (Fit and Gunnar Wendel’s “Enter the Fog”).
Hipodrome’s 2013 Review (Part 1 of 3)
This post is about the followers of my blog and the most successful posts, the releases that gathered the most likes and clicks in 2013 from my visitors.
Ob Ignitt – Mysterious [FXHEOSW]
FXHE return with the master of the mysterious OB Ignitt! Arriving roughly a year on from the last slab of Ignitt goodness, Mysterious finds OB on imperious form, once more showing off his penchant for excellent track titles and singular slant on bumping Detroit business. The title track is a veritable epic of unquantifiable emotive stakes, emerging from a heat treated fog and easing into a subtle yet beguiling rhythmic framework which coaxes you into a spell that grows stronger as the track charges electrically forth. Face down, “Celestial Salacious” has that same rough edged bass line growl to it, but the skipping percussion and building layers of instrumentation give the track real energy, whilst you can almost feel the funk dripping off final track “Chocolate City”.
Omar S – Nelson County [AOS123]
Detroits finest is back with some ultra cool tracks… title track grabs back to the classic unpolished house sound, where the other two tracks sound rawer as if Unit Moebius was jamming with Omar S in the Dystopia basement! Jacking drum machine driven cuts.
Tom Bugs – Living Leaving [FXHEBUGS]
Debut release from Tom Bugs on FXHE Records. Bugs is the man behind the BugBrand modular synthesizer company in the UK. His hand built electronics have become a staple in many studios including that of FXHE label head Omar-S. “Living Leaving” is a peak into the creative mind of Bugs- two extended tracks that wander amongst the outer boundaries of techno, experimental, and ambient electronic music.
Omar-S – Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself [AOS7000CD]
Alex Smith aka Omar-S with his new album on FXHE. The fourteen tracks on this disc demonstrate Smith’s studio prowess and his dynamic range as a producer – from uplifting house to raw techno beats and acid.
Hipodrome’s 2012 Review (Part III)
Finally we are at the last part of the 2012 review. In the first part of our review, the preferences of our followers are shown, according to the number of click and stars. Top 3 albums of the years, top 3 EPs, compilations and mixes loved by our followers can be seen here.
In the second part, I presented some of my favorite events and performances from last year. For more details go here.
OB Ignitt – Oh Jabba [FXHEIGNIT]
FXHE present their final transmission of a superb year in the shape of Oh Jabba, two tracks of stargazing house music from OB Ignitt. “Oh Jabba” is a wonderfully simple yet melodic house track, crunchy drum machine rhythms rippling away feverishly beneath a calming array of swooping Rhodes and Moog flourishes. Complementing this, “Space Age Stepping” is a more searching affair, relying more on the rugged drums and gurgling analogue bassline to achieve lift off.
Omar-S – Triangulum Australe (Say It in Space) [AOS7501]
New 2 track 12” by Omar S. The pulsating acid injected Triangulum Australe (Say It in Space) on the a-side and cool chord driven house track Mayall II on the b-side. Real talk (from space) from Omar S. Two quality tracks from the upcoming Omar-S album.
Fit & Gunnar Wendel – Enter The Fog / Roll Out [FXHE-FNH]
Two track collaboration EP by Detroit’s Fit and Leipzig’s Gunnar Wendel aka Kassem Mosse. Recorded in Detroit at FXHE Studios.
Luke Hess – Keep On [FXHE-LH1200]
Sophomore album from Luke Hess on FXHE Records. The 12-track “Keep On” features guest spots from Detroit poet Papa Smurf and Hess’ brother Jeff, as well as mixing assistance from Omar-S.
Omar-S and L’Renee – S.E.X. (The Remixes) [FXHEPUS]
New one from Omar S, featuring vocals from L’Renee. Three different mixes of a great tune- one naughty house track, one 80s influenced synth mix, and one mix that sounds like a sexy transmission from outer space.
