Another new face graces the halls of Soma’s roster as American based Techno artist Jeff Derringer make a blistering debut with Panic. Jeff weighs in with 2 top-notch hypnotic Techno tracks and we also welcome a debut on Soma from the incomparable Mike Parker who whips up his usual storm of sound on his remix of title track Panic.
Geophone returns with a four track various artists EP curated by the label boss Mike Parker. The A side begins with new artist Eastern Renaissance, who delivers a melodic and acidic dreamscape in classic form. Mike Parker continues this science fictional atmosphere with his contribution, Night of 21 Hours with whirling analogue sequences that remind us of flying saucers and outer space. The B side moves in a harder direction with Echologists buzzing and bleeping syncopations backed with heavy drum programming. The always surprising Stanislav Tolkachev concludes the EP with a track that pushes the boundaries, reflecting his unique interpretation of techno music.
Atrophic Society welcomes Brendon Moeller for it s second release, delivering 2 deeply textured and emotive technoscapes. Wielding a warbled bassline and synthetic bleeps with a masters touch, the title track meanders within a natural landscape, fuzzing and washing around descending chirps and following the call of a distant foghorn, leading us through the Passage to Obscurity.Vohkinne takes the delicacies of the original and hammers them into submission, where the original meanders the remix charges, bringing the distant foghorn into focus as a challenging and stubborn lead. Closing out the EP, Contents Under Pressure surges forward with an insistent Bleep, purging and cleansing itself through gnarling bass, never questioning its purpose as it takes you to a higher state.

Alexander Matlahov’s self-released series of 12″s sees the sixth installment the Russian producer is diving into grainy industrial textures and restrained menace. “Devastation” worms its way into a streamlined cycle with the usual Unbalanced style of intricate rhythm, using vast sweeps of unsettling tones to steer the energy in the track. “Advent” is a decidedly warmer affair that exudes melodic warmth with rich layers of synth and a heart-rending string line. “Long Waiting” however sees a return to more icy tones with another detailed and dub-infected beat.
Vacuum Geometry EP is the first release of the 30drop project. Four tracks have been edited, to further on be understood as a conclusion of the experiment and evolution of Detroit Techno on one hand, and as a dark and industrial european Techno on the other hand. With this, a new a mix of styles is born, acquiring a particular and differential sound expressed by hypnotic, synthetic and cosmic textures, and by oppressive and evocative pads.

Parisian techno producer Shlomo gets another chance to show why he’s so highly rated with the third release on the Right Sounds label. As you might expect, lead track “The Other Side” (808 Intuition) swamps skittering Roland drum arrangements in an intoxicating dub techno atmosphere – what a bassline – and this dense production approach is displayed fully as the EP unfolds. There’s something spectral hidden in the depths of the glistening “Grounded Queen” whilst the title track reins in the drums to a percussive shiver as Shlomo focuses on hypnotising you with his sound design. This aspect is evident on closing track “Theory Is The Worst” too, but Shlomo brings the dancefloor pulse to the fore with impressive results. More please Shlomo.

After 2 years of silence around the DYFR label thought it would be a good time to release a new vinyl. 3 timeless tracks from minimal acid / techno to cheerful electronics and ending in a massive underground acid fest.
Liverpool-based producer Bantam Lions returns with his third 12” for the Scenery Records label. Lead cut ”Recollections” is particularly good, delivering a deep and attractive fusion of fuzzy analogue warm, dreamy melodies and intoxicating chords. He ups the tempo further on ”Many Years Later”. Which layers dubbed-out chords and swirling textures over an energy-packed techno groove. The accompanying remixes are pretty tasty, too, with The Cyclist particularly impressing with his Detroit techno-goes-lo-fi interpretation of ”Recollections”. That said, the dreamy, new age-influenced downtempo take from Mood Hut regular Cloudface is pretty darn good, too.
Terekke once again delivering low key yet powerful, haze inducing productions. On this record he moves through various worlds, sometimes uplifting, sometimes nodding out – maybe even entering into the darker ambient side of the spectrum.

Given the expansive nature of Terry Farley’s first celebration of early and classic house, 2013’s five-disc Acid Rain, you’d think he’d be running out of choices for this second, similarly epic selection. In fact, Acid Thunder is, if anything, a more pleasingly deep and in-depth collection. Whereas that first installment was heavy on relatively well-known classics, this follow-up digs deeper for inspiration. As a result, it’s packed with tracks that many house DJs simply won’t know, or have struggled to get hold of; not just stone cold classics such as Bobby Konders’ “Nervous Acid” or Hexx Complex’s “I Want You”, but genuinely overlooked material from the likes of Risque III, Peter Black and Jack James Rabbit. It’s something of a welcome history lesson, even for those with a good grasp of house music’s formative years.
